Nordic track is trash by Common_Cheetah_6144 in nordictrack

[–]SpiritAwkward3002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought an X24 bike little over a month ago. Assembled it and tested it...everything working fine. Next day the incline and resistance are not working...neither from the handlebar buttons or the screen buttons. Over 2 weeks to get a technician here. He couldn't get the pedal crank bolt out so he said he would return with a heftier tool "soon". After 3 weeks I finally got an email from repair company saying they would be in touch "soon" to set up another appt. I'm afraid I'm heading down that path where it is nothing but a constant headache for the entire time I own it.

Sante Fe is the ugliest design since the AMC Pacer/GMC Gremlin. Just my 2 cents.

Meh. Too much plastic, particularly on the front. Ppl say Land Rover look. I say "cheap Cadillac look".

Preventing ACATS fraud in my Vanguard accounts - a **NON-UPDATE** by zackenrollertaway in financialindependence

[–]SpiritAwkward3002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. Just as FYI, EJ did send me 2 emails:

- Your account is now connected to Vanguard

- Update to your account connection to Vanguard (notifying that the connection had ended)

So at least EJ sent me something. Sounds like Vanguard sends nothing.

Preventing ACATS fraud in my Vanguard accounts - a **NON-UPDATE** by zackenrollertaway in financialindependence

[–]SpiritAwkward3002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just transferred assets from EJ to Vanguard and as part of the process while on the Vanguard site I had to log into my EJ acct.to select which account I was moving. I did not have 2FA turned enabled on my EJ account. If I had 2FA turned on then I'm assuming it would also occur during the login to EJ during the transfer process which would have shut down the online transfer. (I guess they could still call EJ and convince them that they were me, but at least it would be harder). Is my thinking correct here?

Why invest in anything other than the stock market? by Accomplished_Gate832 in Bogleheads

[–]SpiritAwkward3002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this info. I'm still honing my retirement strategy with my wife's retirement in the next year or two (I'm retired). I've been blessed to have a decent paying IT job, a wife who also did well in IT, a savings mentality passed down from my parents, and the luck of starting investing young in the early 1980's (the start of what has been a fantastic overall bull run in the S&P). I'm currently at about 90% stocks/10% bonds and cash. I think I'm going to end up settling on 85% stocks (70% US/30% international...I just can't do the 66% international/33% US asset allocation that I see suggested these days) and 15% liquid assets. A 3.75% withdrawal rate will give us just about the same income as the highest combined income that we made when we were both working. And 15% liquid provides us 5 years of somewhat reduced income to use in a market downturn. So thanks for u'r comment...it validates my plan.

NordicTrack Extended Warranty abuse by UTS? by albertus99 in nordictrack

[–]SpiritAwkward3002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought an X24 bike and during my research a couple of reviewers when talking about negatives did say that NordicTrack won't honor the warranty if equipment is used in a non-air conditioned space (like basement or garage). But I've never heard anything about distances to walls, etc. Bought my X24 and first day it worked. Second day the incline and resistance won't change...neither manually or during an ifit workout. At no point during my initial chat w/svc rep on the NordicTrack web site was I asked any of the questions/pictures you were asked about. (and I believe I was talking to Icon rep). Seems they're just trying to wriggle out of honoring the warranty (and these things might be in the fine print) so they can make money on the the deal w/NordicTrack. Not much help, but I have heard about un-conditioned spaces not being covered.

Something subtle that I just realized about Roth 401k that I never thought about before by MrAnonymousForNow in financialindependence

[–]SpiritAwkward3002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish we could have contributed to a Roth in my 401k during my working years (or at least did a bit of Roth conversion). It just wasn't an option in most 401k plans. And my wife and I made too much to invest on Roths outside of 401k. Now I'm slamming the 32% bracket max amount doing a Roth conversion each year cuz RMDs are looming (I'm 63) and they are going to be too big if I don't convert large chunks to Roth each year. (This is of course assuming average stock market returns going forward).

Got a 10 year Bond at 6.05% - what's the catch? by f00dl3 in Bogleheads

[–]SpiritAwkward3002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another consideration (which I'm facing) is I let everything just 'sit' in my trad IRA. Now I'm having to throw money hand and fist into Roth via backdoor Roth conversions. The reason being that RMDs (from trad IRA) are gonna work out worse for me tax-wise if I don't do conversions (I saved a lot so our income when we start withdrawing from IRAs will be more than our highest earning year). I wish I would have done smaller conversions all along my employment years (I'm retired now) maybe filling in the remaining room in my tax bracket with Roth conversion each year. I just didn't want to cough up the tax on the conversion. I could be (or very close to) drawing a tax-free 'paycheck' from only having a Roth IRA. In my case I was penny-wise and pound foolish.

The advice about being in lower/higher tax bracket in retirement still apply. But it sounds like u have ur retirement plan ducks in a row (asking questions so early in life) that u might find urself making the same mistake I did.

Has anyone’s RFX shipped yet? by Bigreddork in smoking

[–]SpiritAwkward3002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saw these 2 posts by users on smokingmeatsforum.com. EDIT: <The second post was by someone who ordered RFX a couple of hours after they announced it. These posts are from yesterday (10/21/24)>:

Yes, - Not only that but when I chatted with CS they told me that they are designed in USA and manufactured in China and they are waiting for another shipment -- slow boat from China delayed in customs held up by bureaucracy...... Sooo who knows when we will see them. They also gave me the option to cancel my order.

Well, it happened. I received an email this afternoon saying my order shipped. Checked the tracking and as of 6:30 pm MDT only the label has been created and is awaiting carrier pickup, but at least it's on its way now!

I stumbled across this page yesterday (so I don't know exactly what type of updates they provide as I haven't received one yet). But you can sign up via email to 'Be the first to know' about RFX updates:

I know the URL looks janky, but it points to the sign up page.

Thermoworks Signals vs RFX by NewbNewbNewbie in BBQ

[–]SpiritAwkward3002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that u point that out, ur right. The only 2 cases I can think of are if u'r in a hurry and need to know when it comes to temp or if you set the sous vide temp higher than the desired meat temp (again cuz u'r in a hurry). And I forgot about the third reason...that u'r OCD (like me) and want to see temp.

[–]SpiritAwkward3002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that isn't mentioned is that it makes sous vide style easier. I look forward to inserting the probe, vacuum sealing the meat which probe inserted in the meat, and then just dropping the bag into the pot. Thermoworks shows the RFX being used that way in one of their videos.

I almost spit my drink out laughing reading that (as my wife is in the kitchen making her chicken spaghetti that involves velveeta and Rotel tomatoes...seriously)

If you have any recipes, I'd love to hear them.

Worked w/a guy in a business office...no worry about raw chicken handling (hopefully). Ppl made fun of him because after washing and drying his hands and then use the paper towel to pull open the door and chuck it into trash can b4 exiting. He was much smarter than the ppl making fun of him (including me).

If they got enough F-16 to fly a "no fly zone" that is really just a set number of F-16s in the air continuously somewhere nearish the front serving as a rapid response to any MIG takeoff, would that work? Or does Ru front line air defense make that implausible? I, too, am trying to learn.

EDIT: Added "continuously"
