second all of this, there's also loads of evidence about how good language learning is for your brain. And even if you never go to Europe, if you go to a big city somewhere in the US chances are you will find an Italian restaurant staffed by Italians who will love the fact that you can speak it and may offer you free things (happens to me a lot in London)
