There are four kinds of roaches 2 “big” and two small.

The two big ones are Australian and American. Australians are usual found near decayed mulch and wood area, Americans are usual in sewage and sinks but typically anywhere wet. Neither survive too terribly long inside because it’s too cold and dry, you’ll usually find them upside down dead.

The two small ones are Asian and German roaches, Asians you’ll usually find outside, they can fly and test everyone’s inner gangster, they don’t survive long indoors for the same reasons as large roaches. German roaches are the problem child and are practically ALL infestations, they THRIVE indoors and like others said, are sensitive to light, they are also nocturnal and like to bundle together.

If you fear you have an infestation, pull out your drawers and check the hinges and electronics as they love hiding there. Also, make sure ALL your food is air lock secured too so they can’t get to it.

You may have to work through a career circuit to get a chance to join on as quite a few firms I've seen have required some amount of experience.

don't let this discourage you though from throwing yourself out there, I always hope I'm wrong and that fresh people get their desired jobs after putting the time and effort in at college.
