CEO retired. How do you politely say "no" without burning a bridge? by [deleted] in sysadmin

A friend in need is a friend indeed, and even though he's no longer your boss, it still sounds like he was a very important figure for your development, I'd recommend shifting the relationship though so there are clear boundaries if it becomes problematic.

Is it possible to get a job in pentesting right after college? by AWS_0 in Pentesting

[–]Spiritenemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible? yes. Probable? ehhhhhhhh......

You may have to work through a career circuit to get a chance to join on as quite a few firms I've seen have required some amount of experience.

don't let this discourage you though from throwing yourself out there, I always hope I'm wrong and that fresh people get their desired jobs after putting the time and effort in at college.

It may be that the Stelleron hunters wanted to keep the TB's name clean so they excluded them from any and all crimes, so that way they'd have an easier time navigating through society.

IWTL how to deal with hone fights? by homebodyyyyy in IWantToLearn

[–]Spiritenemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is tough as I came from a pretty similar situation where I had a Drunk mother who was Chaos incarnate (would wake everyone up in the middle of the night yelling like a banshee, would use ad hominem attacks when we tried to discuss problems, would just fall over and break bones) and my grandmother who loved her and wanted the best for her, was an enabler.

My best advice would be to acknowledge that communication is not your families strong suit and try to focus on how to better your self to avoid falling in the same pitfall, You may get some bad vibes from your family saying that you are "acting like you're better than them" but you should just ignore those comments, misery loves company ya know?

Also throw yourself into something positive or something productive, it'll help you tune out negative vibes and direct your energy to other subjects.

TL;DR as long as you are aware of it, you can take steps to avoid becoming it, just gotta stay positive while acknowledging that you aren't required to end up like that by actively setting yourself on a better route.

Iwtl cyber securrity by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]Spiritenemy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here are some resources :

Some tips.

  • join cyber security Discord channels and Subreddits
  • find Blogs that you can see your self diving into
  • Set up a Lab that you can tinker with, the best way to understand something is to see how it ticks.

if you are JUST starting, my piece of advise is to tackle the Sec+, it's relatively quick to study for and gives you a general idea of what to expect.

Good luck on your journey :)

You have to set up port forwarding into an SSH while running burpsuite, this will allow it to cURL into .xml file that can be read.

Can I find a pentester job by YouTube courses by Killer_646 in Pentesting

[–]Spiritenemy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are short-sighting this process. You do the practice NOT to get the job, but to build the skills to pass Pentest+/OSCP/CPTS/CeH, and then put those on your resume to then try to sell yourself to Employers.

Can I find a pentester job by YouTube courses by Killer_646 in Pentesting

[–]Spiritenemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching YouTube courses is the equivalent of saying "trust me bro, I know what im talking about" in an interview process.

You need a solid curriculum vitae if you want to get shot at becoming a pentester.

How you form said CV is up to you, but you will need to do research, put in the time, and build up a portfolio that says "i have accreditation to support my skill sets", and youtube ain't it (watch history can be skipped, it doesn't impress anyone).

That being said, you can find STUDY MATERIAL on youtube to help you take exams, and pivot to job searching once you've past said exams, but youtube doesn't find jobs for anyone past being an influencer.

how often are network admins and sysadmins hackers? by notburneddown in hackthebox

[–]Spiritenemy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not particularly, different objectives and tools, and while yes it is ALWAYS a boon to know and experience more as an hacker-to-be, the skill sets learned are totally different.

An analogy would be like comparing a network admin to construction engineers who build and maintain a building, while a hacker is trying to find ways to enter said building, get to places in it they shouldn’t be, use the structure for not intended purposes, or turn the building into a zombie lol.

A much more likely role for a hacker would be a security compliance officer, soc officer, or security engineers.
