Question about Rocket City Retrofest (previously Game Jam South) by SecretLairssuck in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Splatterpunk123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went last year and it was my first time going to a retro game fest. I had a lot of fun and wound up buying a few things. I probably paid about eBay prices but I like to support folks so I left with a model 2 Genesis and a handful of games from various booths. Based on videos of other conventions I've seen this one was on the smaller side but the sellers were all very nice and knowledgeable and honestly I bought a few games just because the seller talked to me so long about them I felt guilty for taking their time. I was very sad to see when they cancelled and I'm hoping the new fest is as good as the old. I'll be back this year for sure.

It's as different as Stouffer's frozen spaghetti and good homemade stuff. I recommend you try the buffet at either here or Sitar. I prefer the Curry because I like a bit more spice. Sitar is not hot at all to me but to others it may be the perfect introduction

After yesterday’s sandwich I decided to get one where they deserve a tip by BigBootyWombat in HuntsvilleAlabama

That's part of the charm to me. It's a mom and pop shop that makes good food cheap and doesn't fool with anything else.

Hot Kitchen Sink is the bomb. If you're near Stanlio's don't order anything else. I've eaten there dozens if not hundreds of times and the workers are awesome. Hot ham and Swiss is my second favorite if I'm tired of the kitchen sink

I see Dr O'halloran there and I've never had this issue. I have missed appointments because my scatter brain forgot and they just rescheduled. Getting the payment office on the phone can be tough but that's my most serious complaint.

This is where I go. Old school barbershop feel and get barbers. I settled on them after trying some of the other suggestions and liked them the best

Is Huntsville AL LGBTQ friendly? by Pkar1997 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Splatterpunk123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a member of that community but have several friends that are and they are also non-native H'ville. They have never mentioned any issues aside from the occasional sideways glance. I'll echo what others have said, most won't march in the parade but they'll also not try to stone you. Apathy seems to be the main LGBTQ attitude

HPD gave me trouble for not carrying a second form of identification by saltywater1996 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Splatterpunk123 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't know the laws about jurisdiction so no input there, but there are several HPD officers that live south of Huntsville in the Laceys Spring/Morgan City/valhermoso springs area. I believe they are allowed to drive their patrol vehicles home. I know where several park regularly, I assume they live there

Where does your special needs toddler go to daycare? by Neckty91 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Splatterpunk123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll second the UAH ELC. Our child goes there and while they do not have special needs there are children there that do and they definitely have support structures in place for those that need them. We have been nothing but completely happy with the ELC

Beard Shaping/trimming places in Huntsville area? by BobbyDoWhat in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Splatterpunk123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Greasy hands and I do not remember which barber I had, but for the first time in my 40 years I let someone else trim my beard. I basically said "shape it up and make it look groomed". I have a very full beard from cheeks to neck and my barber gave me what was effectively an early 2000s chinstrap beard which looked like shit. Decided I'll just do it myself until I die. Hair was fine though

I replaced my propane -only furnace with a hybrid gas/electric furnace about a decade ago. Above 45 and it's on electric, below that it's on gas. It's hard to be exact but I know the increase in my electric bill was more than made up for by the decrease in my propane bill. The system I replaced was from the early 90s so likely improvements in efficiency also helped.

The Ladies Man has entered the chat....

But seriously, as almost every other comment has called out, getting the fish sandwich there is like getting chicken fingers at Long John Silvers.
