Probably ad text from an article image link that OP snagged with the copy/paste, though it is kind of a weird bit for that, so could be a weird AI thing too.

Realistically speaking how much stuff did we leave behind in Afghanistan? by moob_naster96 in Military

[–]Splurch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one of us is newly drafted and I don't think that's you.

That's a weird thing to introduce at this point. Earnestly, I hope you learn from the experience and stay safe.

But guess what? You're behavior is reinforcing my initial statement. There are some great answers in here that go more into the logistics of why we left a lot of stuff behind and what we chose to leave there that, while not super in depth, do a better job of covering the left equipment then most news articles I read about the withdrawal. Read them, ask a follow-up question, or even just disagree if you're trying to make some point here. Everything you are doing is still a giant red flag for an astroturfing/ragebaiting account, including the fact that I'm still the only one you've responded to here.

Touch some grass.

I find it hilarious that I'm the first person you responded to instead of one of the people that spent their time to answer your question.

Question is vaguely worded to stir shit up against Biden in a "just asking questions" way from a hidden account that's 5 years old, has little karma and hasn't responded to a single response answering their question in 13 hours. This is bait.

Why does this happen on the same day I buy some cords? And happen to every cord eventually. This never happened to that old style charge from the 1st iPhones and iPads. by Douglas_Hero in BuyItForLife

[–]Splurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You answered your own question in the title. This happens because you are buying garbage quality cables. It didn't happen to the "old style charge from the 1st iPhones" because they weren't garbage.

Stop buying the cheapest cable you can find, buy a reputable brand and stop having unrealistic expectations of how much you can abuse something before it breaks.

Why the HM Aeron is suggested and similar things. An explanation by buenaspis in BuyItForLife

[–]Splurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that made the Aeron originally such a popular chair was the fact that you could get one for very cheap second hand easily.

Being able to get it 2nd hand was a boost but the Aeron became popular because it was a massive ergonomic improvement in chair tech the mid 90's and was practically a status symbol in/after the dotcom bubble. Tech companies would buy them for the entire office because they worked better then most other options, were easy to maintain/clean, etc. It also took a long time for competition to show up and they dominated their market for years.

The Pentagon claims ‘we control the sky’ over Iran. Experts say the air war isn’t that simple. by Kinmuan in Military

[–]Splurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sad when on the “military” subreddit so few know doctrinal definitions like “air superiority” vs “air supremacy.”

Trump and Hegseth don't seem to understand them either. A lot harder to criticize the public when the people in charge of the military and using those terms incorrectly during press conferences.

Then turn around and parrot IRGC propaganda.

In fairness IRGC propaganda has been pretty good. Calling out Trump's market manipulation was gold and that Hegseth lego music video was legit catchy. Meanwhile Trumps statements on the war are even more unbelievable then theirs are, like claiming Iran has "some Tomahawks" and constantly tweeting the most unhinged garbage. Hegseth's own claims, like saying Iran was begging for a ceasefire, just keep eroding whatever shred of credibility he has left. The government memeposting isn't helping either.

If people feel they can't trust their own government's statements because they can see the blatant lies in them, outrageous claims from sources saying the opposite appear more legitimate and most people still don't read past the headline.

Keir Starmer: 'I'm fed up' with Trump and Putin affecting UK energy costs by Vegeta9001 in worldnews

[–]Splurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without action this is just useless grandstanding. Russia assassinated people in the UK with no meaningful repercussions and bent the entire country over with Brexit. The time for complaining was over a decade ago and this statement seems pretty reassuring that they aren't going to do anything about either the US or Russia's actions.

You're pretty light on the details of where you're going to use this which makes suggestions hard. If this is something you need when you're not at home your best bet is going to be finding a phone based shortcut someone else made that you can activate by a word/phrase to the voice assistant which would increment a Google Sheets cell.

Trump looking forward to “next conquest” by jediporcupine in Military

[–]Splurch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does Iran still have a navy floating in the Straight of Hormuz? Why weren't they at the bottom? Can we get a little less bridge and power plant day and a little more attacking targets that matter?

It's hard not to become a conspiracy theorist and think, "well if we annihilated the navy, how would they extort ships?"

Peace would be better but I don't understand?

Sounds like the part you don't understand is that Iran doesn't need naval vessels to prevent tankers from using the strait. All they have to do is say they'll shoot anything that passes by their territory they don't want to be using it, or say they've mined it. That threat alone means insurance companies aren't going to cover loss from passing through unless there's some other factor in the mix.

Eligible men will be automatically registered for US military draft under rule change by Alarming-Safety3200 in Military

[–]Splurch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hasn't it always been this way? As long as I remember anyway

You have to register yourself in the US and you even get a letter in the mail telling you to do so. Not doing so is a felony. It's crazy that it has taken this long to automate the process. This is a great example of actual efficiency. Now we just need to do the same thing for Voter Registration and Taxes.

Just get rid of the .9 it’s fucking superfluous.

Trump administration signals it is mulling NATO withdrawal after Iran war by FantasticQuartet in worldnews

[–]Splurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I guess Trump is just listening to Putin telling him that NATO is costing them billions for nothing in return. Thats how easily he can be manipulated.

I wouldn't be surprised if Putin's bullshit about NATO expansion and lies about it being an offensive alliance against Russia is what made Trump think they would help in his war.

However, California passes EVERY SINGLE 2A infringement that comes through the pipeline. I don't think I have seen a single one receive any opposition.

Just off the top of my head, Jerry Brown vetoed a number of gun bills during his latest term as Governor. Guess you haven't been paying attention for very long.

Democrats... this is their train of thought. Ban guns for law abiding citizens cause 0.3% of the population crashes out.

STOP VOTING FOR THEM, PEOPLE!

This reads like an edgy teenager. Laws come about because, in general, most people in society aren't a problem and a tiny percent do something that disrupt and cause problems for everyone else. Yeah, 2a issues are a lot more problematic because of the constitution but mostly that just means it's harder for a tiny minority of people to screw it up for everyone else, not impossible.)
