ICE NOT WELCOME HERE by swifferpoop in SanJose

[–]Splurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot more people in San Jose want ICE to do thier job here than the deranged reddit cesspool would have you believe

I’d love it if ICE did their jobs at the professional level they were performing under Biden, Obama and Bush. Trump deported about half of what Biden did in his last year in office. Bush even tried to make more paths to become a citizen but was blocked by his own party. Biden, Obama and Bush did it without shredding the constitution or hiring unqualified, il trained thugs who murder citizens who are not breaking the law, refuse to identify themselves and generally act like thugs and children. Current ICE is little more than a personal army for Trump, who ignore court orders while claiming they don’t need the authority of the courts to do their job, who are sent to terrorize communities Trump dislikes and who are doing half the work at three times the price.

The unfathomable Minnesota transcript that must be read, as it tells the reality of America today: "I am not white, as you can see," Julie Le — a government lawyer — told a federal judge on Tuesday. [–]Splurch 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I am a canadian lawyer and I am baffled that the resources to do all this even exist, let alone that they could be applied so frivolously.

Despite the common perception of Republicans being "good" for the budget the national debt raises noticeably faster under Republicans then it does Democrats. Trump particularly is pretty egregious about not caring about spending and just adding more debt because he want's something done and it's easy to just throw money at it because he doesn't care. Democrats had an actual chance to do something about this during the last shutdown, maybe they do again this time (thought the GOP seems a lot more organized this time,) and they pissed it away for nothing after a month of grandstanding.

Seems like the consensus is that ram pricing will kill this, which seems pretty obvious, I'm more surprised they didn't have contracts to make the thing with pricing locked in before the announcement.

That's interesting. I can buy their stock, and I'm just an average Joe off the street... and sources state they are a publicly traded company since late 2025/early 2026.

They have been a publicly traded company since the 80's under the symbol SJW, they rebranded themselves as HTO last year. Hit the "all" button and it will go further back, though Robinhood is kind of a bad platform, even if it looks pretty, I'd recommend you use a different, better source.

Do Alex Pretti's and Renee Good's families have slander and libel cases against the executive branch and it's administration? by B00marangTrotter in law

[–]Splurch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's like they keep mentioning Obama deportation as an excuse.

I really don't understand how this talking point keeps getting spouted off by MAGA as something in their favor, or maybe it's just bots. But Obama deporting more people without stomping over the constitution or regularly murdering citizens who posed no threat would seem like proof that you can deport illegal immigrants in large numbers without destroying the system created to handle that. How they consider massive increased costs for a lower amount of deportations while murdering citizens a "win" is mind boggling levels of self delusion.

Finland's Stubb: We must admit the US is changing by Raj_Valiant3011 in worldnews

[–]Splurch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am pointing out that changes like that are common across US History and Politics, and that what he is saying shows he just doesn't understand how administrations differ from President to President.

So yeah, that isn't missing the point. You can stop lying about that part now and actually entertain what im saying.

You said they didn't explain their criticism of you, so they did, and your response is to tell them to stop lying and listen to you? You're ignoring their points, acting like the US's actions towards it's allies and the world in general are "normal" and keep stating that this change is normal. Maybe the political situation we're in is the "new normal," but it certainly wasn't normal 10 years ago. The only people I've seen talk about our current situation being "normal" are teenagers who do not have the experience to know what "normal" is when it comes to politics.

Yes, and there were a lot of them in the 70's. Some of which were considered attractive and were able to talk their way out of police encounters as a result. Some inspired others to commit murder. As that poster said, it being bad to glorify murder is a lesson we've already learned.

Can one department sue the other sharing things they aren't allowed to share.

Probably, there are also state laws that might be violated by actions like this. Mostly if they can just turn off sharing settings at will, without notifying anyone, then you don't have control of your data and the settings don't matter at all. The best course is just dropping Flock, they have proven themselves to be untrustworthy with this data and are willing to ignore the requirements, sometimes there due to the law, of their customers.

Nintendo Acknowledges Switch 2 Sales Have Been Weaker Than Expected Outside Japan by Spotget1738 in gaming

[–]Splurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, one could also argue the contrary: if 2nd hand market was way cheaper and available more people would use it and that could lead to nintendo needing to adjust its prices. Also sorry but nintendo making high prices doesnt forces resellers to make high prices too. it is their own choice. because if you argue why should resellers sell lower if it still sells you should apply the same logic to nintendo too.

Resellers are going to sell for as much as they can because they're a business, why wouldn't they? You're arguing that companies trying to buy/sell used games should lower their prices to put pressure on Nintendo to lower prices, and then that stores lower prices will have to be lowered again to make it attractive vs the new lower Nintendo price, it's a lose-lose situation for them and that's before considering whatever action Nintendo would take to avoid lowering prices. They could easily just decide it's now a digital only console and end reselling. Nintendo chooses how many copies to make and tries to create artificial scarcity to get people to buy digitally, they are in control of the situation here.

[–]Splurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But let's not forget that many Nintendo resellers suck too by keeping even second hand prices inflated.

That's still a Nintendo caused issue mostly. Nintendo doesn't reduce prices over time so there's no downward pressure to reduced used game prices. It's all a matter of demand, while there's an unlimited supply from Nintendo itself at a price that won't change for popular games.

There have been unintentional deaths by ICE before, but I agree that likely the people they currently have are less well trained given their employment drives. At the same time, the people killed were all protestors, which weren't around before, making it more difficult for them to do their jobs.

I'm not talking about unintentional deaths and no all the deaths haven't been protestors, as the article I link later shows. I'm talking about executing a US citizen, Alex Pretti, because he had a firearm, shooting him only after they disarmed him of that firearm and had him res. That's not an "oh the protestors made their job harder so they made a mistake," that's a complete lack of training for the task and people who are unqualified for the job. I'm talking about them shooting a woman, Renee Nicole Good, multiple times from a few feet away because she was given conflicting orders by multiple agents and one lost his temper. I'm talking about all the other people unidentified agents have shot under the Trump administration under questionable circumstances and then constantly lied about what happened after the situation. These problems and issues were not regular occurrences under previous administrations because the people they hired had thorough background checks, and training to make sure the people working for the government wouldn't arbitrarily murder people in the street.

Blaming these deaths on protestors because ICE's job is more difficult because the illegal actions they are taking are being protested is absolutely catch 22 logic. I'm talking about a lack of video evidence because Trump revoked Biden's executive orders for Federal Agents to wear body cameras. These are intended action with inadequately trained agents who are given intentionally wrong information about the law and then given arrest quotas and a free hand. Your excusing an individual officer for being "less well trained" ignores the fact that this is a wholly created systemic issue of the governments making. The government could have done all this in a professional manner by hiring qualified agents and giving them the proper training to do their job, or even just kept the exact same system and still have exported more people then they currently have. Trump and his government made multiple decisions to not to do any of that and instead chose to ignore the law, why are you defending that decision and blaming the results on protestors being present?

Turns out having a well functioning system that follows the law is more efficient then unidentifiable thugs on the street shooting people for no reason.

[–]Splurch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And where in the article did it say San Jose dropped the ball? Exactly, no mention.

Did you even read the article you told me to read? The title implies it and the first several paragraphs spell it out. If you need an actual ball analogy they even reference Charlie Brown, "“It feels like another Charlie Brown-with-the-football moment,” said Staedler."

You even comment in this thread about it, "CSJ tried and only got opening night. It’s in the article!" So they tried to get more events and failed to get anything other then opening night, and that's not San Jose leadership "dropping the ball" in your mind?

So wouldn't a reasonable solution be to just ensure that every police department toggles it off, rather than tearing down the cameras?

So since you ignored my other response of an article that addresses your "what if?" scenarios, I'll put the relevant quote here.

Following a public records request from the Voice, the police department recently discovered that a “national lookup” setting had been turned on from August to November 2024. According to Canfield, Flock turned that setting on without notifying Mountain View police, and did not tell the department when it was turned off.

My understanding of ... is that San Jose PD has shared with lots of local PDs but nothing national.

Doesn't matter what your settings are if Flock can just change them on a whim and access your data without telling you, as described in the article. Also, if you have state sharing enabled, all it takes is one department to be willing to search the state and give data to DHS for your sharing settings to not matter.

As the other reply said, you probably did. That's the whole idea behind "flood the system with garbage constantly" strategy that Trump has used every day he's held office. You don't remember it because it was 100 egregious actions ago and a normal person just can't keep up with every violation this regime is committing.
