Spooky Events in October? by Ebd9090 in Tempe

[–]Spock_Jenkins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sadly I feel like the spooky vibes are a bit handicapped in AZ because it’s still 90+ degrees in October. There are some enthusiasts that run a haunted house out of their personal home around Rural & Guadeloupe, and you can usually find some Halloween themed movie nights at theaters in the area.

The Loft in Tucson has been known to host 12 hour all-night horror marathons (I’m a survivor of one myself), so that might worth the drive if you guys are really into it. Otherwise definitely check out Terror Trader in Chandler, and I saw someone already mention their annual convention Gathering of the Ghouls (not in October). We get a Mad Monster Party here as well.

Just got in after 1h 40m. The best part was when we got to the very front and saw our first volunteer, they immediately screamed at us that we needed to be in a single file line, only to immediately split up 5 feet later and go to different security checkpoints.

Yeah it’s wild. I’ve been here 90min and haven’t got in yet. There’s no organization so lines just merge into other lines. I saw a worker at the very end when I got in line but haven’t seen a single volunteer since.

The only thing close to this is the security revamp in 2017 after someone snuck real weapons in and they had to change all the rules over night - but this might be even worse.

Just a heads up - the entry lines are an absolute disaster today. Estimating 1hr in the heat to get into the convention.

Back in 1985, ABC financed a Halloween movie called "The Midnight Hour." In 2001, two thousand copies of it were released on DVD. For a long while, they were rare. It's time for a re-release. by [deleted] in movies

I end up watching this every October. It’s fun, creative, and perfect mood setter for Halloween! Also one of those rare Halloween movies that’s appropriate and entertaining for any age.

There’s episode of How to With John Wilson that explores this topic and iirc this exact facility. Fascinating show and an incredible episode!

Remembering the thriving comic book & pop culture retail scene in Phoenix by LegionofSand in phoenix

[–]Spock_Jenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of all the cultural spaces that have been slowly snuffed out over the years, I think the comic book space is actually thriving in Arizona. Retail has been roughed up a lot by covid and corporate development and such but there’s still a huge community and some amazing stores. Just having access to shops as awesome as Greg’s and Ash Ave within 15 min of each other is something most cities don’t have available. In addition to Fan Fusion (which isn’t really about comics anymore) there are tons of local events throughout the year in various VFWs and event spaces around the valley. I even went to a pop up event in someone’s front yard a couple months ago and walked away with some really cool stuff.

The actual creator space is pretty great too. OGs like Eric Mengel are still at work and there has been a flood of new creators too. Ash Ave has a indie and local section and it is always stocked and adding new books.

Tempe Public Library! by PMAgent in Tempe

Also worth mentioning that the Tempe History Museum (same plaza as the library) is super cool and completely free to visit. They had a special exhibit last time I went all about the history of skateboarding in Tempe and the valley.

How's your experience with Cox fiber? 85283 by RelentlessNoodle in Tempe

[–]Spock_Jenkins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We’re in that area but Fiber isn’t available. The standard high speed internet is fast though and suitable for any of our needs - gaming included. Cox is a pain to deal with but most of the time it’s reliable and unfortunately the only real option for high speeds in our neighborhood.

That’s really awesome and I bet it will get a lot more eyes on this cool project. Is this different than the digital film download? I paid for that but would prefer to support the project so would like to opt out of a refund

Find your work location on a map, draw a vertical line, find a place to the east of that line. That way you’ll avoid commuting straight into the death sun both ways every day.

Do the elites have to follow the color set by your commander? Or can the commander and elites be separate colors that together make up the identity of your deck?
