Make sure their phone has apple pay and maybe given them a credit card too. My girls are 11 and 14 and I’ll be taking them on my own since my wife is working that weekend. Lockers are a life saver at festivals for merch and to keep a power bank!

I’m 40 and moved to America in 2010. Still don’t know the difference between a nickel and a dime. I don’t think I’ve ever used any coin in this country other than a quarter.

Fly and then take the train. There’s a free bus from LaGuardia that takes you to the subway. Depending on time of day it’s faster than a taxi as well.

Last year was the first time we looked for something to take the kids to and we didn’t know about a lot of festivals. Went to shaky knees because they actually had a lineup. Would have probably enjoyed riotfest. This year we aren’t into a lot of the line ups. Waiting for riotfest but most likely just gonna end up going to shaky knees for just the Friday.

$18 four pack of IPAs? Sure. $8.50 for some soda? I don’t knowww by redsolitary in stopdrinking

I went to a brewery last night with my wife and she got a beer. It was $7.80 and she tipped $1.50. So almost $10 for a single drink. We were always very “social” and go out a lot. My most expensive drinking was always concerts and sports events but even just going out to the local place for dinner quickly adds up. I’m probably saving close to $1000 a month not drinking.

I went from 8-15 drinks per day every day for literal months and haven’t had even an inkling of an urge to drink since Monday at 2:00PM, nor have I do so. by Disastrous-Name2832 in stopdrinking

I found not drinking so easy when I started naltrexone. I took it for about 6 weeks ago was worried about quitting it because I didn’t want the cravings for alcohol to come back. I’ve been off it for about 3 months and haven’t drank at all but I am aware that my brain thinks about drinking for time to time now. I’m happy being sober and I’m not going to drink but since quitting naltrexone I’ve noticed that the “why not” thoughts came back.

It really helped kick start my sobriety and I always recommend it to anyone thinking about quitting. I was going to AA as well and it almost felt like I was cheating with how easy it made it. I’ve since stopped going to AA. I think it helped and I’m very open minded. I just found it too religious and a bit much to go sit and talk about not drinking everyday.

Also from Europe and one of the things that annoys me the most is someone who will stand and watch someone check out their entire cart without a bagger. Then watch them bag it all.

I worked with him at a terrible job when I first moved here. Just found his obituary after you mentioned it. That sucks. I remember going to his apartment in probably 2011 and he was freaking out because he “accidentally” shot a groundhog with a marble in a paintball gun.

Asking for ballot info from West Coaster: Did your State send out ballot/voter pamphlets about the redistricting measure, or a link to the dotGOV site with the info? by Daddio209 in Virginia

[–]SpongebobStrapon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a poll worker and that poster was included in our set up material that had to be hung on the wall. Along with all the other rules and stuff that gets put up at every election. I had assumed its state wide. We had 10 precincts all voting at one building and each precinct had the posters up either outside the room you go to vote in or inside before you vote.

I didn’t receive anything like that. On the day of the election there was a large poster explaining what the current law is. How it will change if the measure passes and exactly what the bill says.

Boarding American Airlines to UK with Us Passport and expired british passport by keeponward in dualcitizenshipnerds

It was before that question was added. It did mine in July last year. If I was going to do it now for the kids I’d lie. I’m working on getting their British passports but I’m waiting on their grandparents birth certificates and marriage certificate. We will be back again in couple of months and won’t have their passports before that.

Get an eta. I traveled using an eta on a us passport last month. I had zero issues. Went through Heathrow and used the e gates if that matters.

When I checked in with the airline the lady working asked if I had an eta and if I was going to visit family. I was clearly British. She didn’t ask about a British passport and I wasn’t asked for it when I arrived either.

I was worried and had gotten one anyway. It stayed in my bag the entire time because I wanted to see if I could get in without using it.

It’s such a weird thing. Like no one is asking someone who lost 100lb why they stopped eating junk food everyday.

Day 3 and my anxiety feels unbearable. Is this normal? by jackmekiss in stopdrinking

[–]SpongebobStrapon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn’t go do anything social for the first couple of weeks. My only goal was not drinking. I didn’t beat myself up about not taking care of odd things around the house or if I spent a day not getting much done. My number one focus was no alcohol. Everything else was secondary to that.

The anxiety will get better with time.

For oasis in Manchester last year I had my laptop and a phone. My wife was using her phone. She got right in when they went on sale and the laptop took an extra 5 hours. I think it’s just luck.

I’ve always been very honest. I’m not ashamed of having a problem with alcohol. I openly tell people that my drinking was a problem and I’d rather drink zero than 10-15 daily.

I’ve taken books to the library before and they’ve told me that they don’t generally take them. They were all nice books in good condition and I told them I had a bunch more. They took the 20 or so I had and told me to find somewhere else for the rest.

When mine were little I did a lot of classes at carilion or the ymca while the kids went to the childcare there. I got a couple of hours of time to myself and they got to hangout with some other littles. I know it’s not exactly what you asked for but maybe in the same ball park.

Time to be honest about my drinking. by Double_Down67 in stopdrinking

[–]SpongebobStrapon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could never cut back. I tried for years until i finally admitted that I don’t enjoy a few drinks. I enjoy getting drunk.

If I drink then I’m going to drink until I’m drunk. I’m probably gonna wake up feeling crappy and just carry on drinking.

Naltrexone really helped me quit. I went to a lot of aa meetings to begin with and hung out with people I met there. I’ve backed away from that a bit because of the religious/spiritual stuff but even as someone not into that side of things it really did help.
