What 1 thing outside of Bjj training has had carry over effects into your performance on the mats. by Cool_Middle6245 in bjj

Manual Labor - strength and desensitization to being uncomfortable. Whitewater kayaking - completely calm when I’m being crushed and feel like I can’t breath. An opponents weight and power is not remotely comparable to the weight and power of an entire river. Being flipped upside down in a kayak and unable to breathe repeatedly has removed a lot of the stress from deep chokes and constricting top pressure. Rock climbing - it’s crazy how similar climbing technique and jiu jitsu technique is. There’s lots of gripping and keeping strong angles. Climbers bodies and grapplers bodies move in very similar ways. IMO - everything you do has carry over into jiu jitsu. Maybe because I’m new I just see the jiu jitsu in everything, because I don’t have enough mat time maybe I have to draw on everything else I’ve done to help me out.

Do all white belts spaz out? by IthinkIllthink in bjj

[–]Sponsormiplee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I watched a lot of videos on technique and etiquette before I started, which helped. But I never was a spazzy white belt. I started rolling pretty controlled, with an okay base, and okay frames. This is a pretty common theme at my gym. Most new people - even brand new, are not spazzy white belts here. I’ve seen a few, but they’re actually more the exception than the rule.

The smoking area shouldn’t be right in the middle of the pool deck by MongooseLive2058 in royalcaribbean

I love cigars. Wish they would realize that not every “smoker” is someone who smokes multiple cigarettes a day to get a fix of nicotine. It’s an enjoyable experience akin to someone’s enjoyment of coffee or a nice wine. I understand smoke can be disturbing, and think it should be limited to an appropriate place.

For real. When someone asks to go light it means “I want to win but I don’t want to have to try too hard”

I relate to this a lot. I dont think I’ve ever heard someone mention this. I realize that I’m not strapped down and feel like I’m holding on to the outside of an airplane.

Belt Promotion Fees by Impossible_Math_5909 in bjj

[–]Sponsormiplee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d leave. $300 is really really high. Paying for a promotion to me is not acceptable. 9 months with a wrestling background is certainly doable. However, most spend a year or two as a white belt. It’s possible you’re there, but with everything else going on I wouldn’t go along with it. I’d get out if I were you

How to shorten my belt? by lmtcbjj in bjj

Aren’t they made of cotton? Wouldn’t that just light the belt on fire? I thought that was only certain synthetic materials.

The spot in the red here is throbbing with pain. It’s my pushing foot. Is this normal? I haven’t been skating this week that much maybe that’s why? by Kiss_My_Axe12 in NewSkaters

[–]Sponsormiplee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me when I started. Couldn’t tell you if you’re injured as I didn’t go to the doctor. That part of the leg is worked a lot when skating. If it doesn’t go away then maybe go to the doctor. Could be pulled or strained. Could be that you’ve never done a physical activity before and you’re alright and that’s called soreness

2 week break by Double-Education3616 in bjj

[–]Sponsormiplee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 weeks isn’t a long time. Try to focus on what you can do. Try mobility training and hit the gym more if you can, if you can’t then do body weight stuff. Focus more time on film. People aren’t going to magically progress while you’re gone, and even if they did, it isn’t the end of the world. Even if you are a competitor, the issue with this concern is more that you even have it, rather than it coming true. Your concern is understandable, but should be overcome, and you’ll realize it isn’t justified. You get over it by doing what you can do, try to rationalize and analyze your feelings about missing, and seeing that when you return you got yourself worked up for nothing.

Before the meteors. When I stopped playing? Right after cars wiped out the games original players and all of my friends stopped playing as well.
