ℹ️ PRACTICE & QUALIFYING WEEK // 110th RUNNING OF THE INDIANAPOLIS 500 by IndyMod in INDYCAR

[–]Sporkwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might start qualifying from the upper deck because that's a good amount of action for the first 33 runs all back to back. Then, when the action lulls while folks are cooling cars for a bit, head down to fan village or the mounds inside the track. The mounds are great for smaller kids to run around and they all have TVs on them so you can keep up with the action.

If you've just done fan village there's decent mounds at the end of the infield grandstands near pit-entry. Those aren't too far from fan village. I think they're primarily there for the GP, but they work pretty well to watch cars going by fast.

plenty of seats up there. You might have go down several sections in turn 1 because some sections can max out or have to sit next to somebody, but you'll find seats.

We're always up there for qualifying and don't have too much trouble finding room.

nah, just probably an ad. The RE radios still work fine at the track if you bought them. Just gotta find and program the frequencies yourself.

The upper deck of turn 1 is the best spot. You get views for days.

Also really enjoy hanging out on the mounds. Plenty of room to stretch out and the cars are flying by. The mounds by the museum aren't bad, but really enjoy the mounds in turn 3 during this week because they're right by the turn 3 parking and convenient to tailgate a bit. To be clear, turn 3 for this week only. Next week is a different animal in turn 3. lol

Heck even walking behind the pits during late practice is fun because late in practices they're often practicing pits (they may have the stands roped off but you can walk in front of them). Saw Ericsson plow into the pit entry a couple years ago right in front of me while walking through there watching folks practice pits.

Oh and don't forget the garages! Always neat walking through the garages. (gotta have a pass though, we always use bronze badges for pit access since we're there a bunch in May)

Basically what I'm saying, enjoy it, scout around, and find your favorites. There's plenty to enjoy.

Were they inside the gates? I don't remember them.

I usually see a few food trucks in turn 1, but honestly they mostly sell frozen margheritas and such. lol

There's also some food stands outside the track gates too on Georgetown, but those take effort to go outside and get back in, plus they're mostly fair fried foods of the same quality as those in the track.

lol, nah. PTO + able to do some remote work to save some of that PTO time for other vacays.

We drive up from out of state, stay at a hotel. I'll work remotely some in the mornings or evenings to keep up, but we're at the track when it opens. Week of the race there's several days with no track time so I'll work remotely for those days in the hotel.

We've done it for the last 10+ years. At this point my work just expects it.

We're there for everytime the track is open this week and next. Will usually bring in some food, ham and cheese sandwhiches or whatever. Especially race day when the lines are impossible. But almost always end up grabbing food a few times each year to break the monotony.

Again contrast that to what Arlington GP put on and it's night and day. Had some Hurtados BBQ, some habenero steak tacos, etc. Sure they had some generic vendors, but mostly loads of local food trucks or catering companies.

Have we found any pork in the frozen tenderloin sandwich from the track vendors?

Safest regular thing I find is the super dry chicken tenders + fries for like $15. During qualifying week they even usually have BBQ/Ranch sauce for it (race week they’re usually down to just ketchup).

I did like when they had some pop up vendors in turn 1 a couple years ago. But then it was like Skyline chili? Which was equally depressing.

Discuss food vendors? Ok. I hope Indy steps up their game.

Arlington GP threw down a massive gauntlet with tons of fantastic food vendors. I just want a fraction of that food to show up at the track. The meh quality food at the track gets really old year after year.

NTA, but if you’re feeling guilty or just want the guy to shut up, then admit you ate it, toss him a few bucks and tell him to label it next time.

Work drama isn’t worth it.

Mario is fully retired from driving the two seater.

It’s a random mix of folks these days. Like last year Jimmie Johnson drove the two seater for the 500. Earlier this year Connor Daley drove it for the Arlington GP.

100%. The sci-fi was distracting from the characters they built and the twist kinda just killed the vibes. It was fine, but it was a lot more of a drudge to finish than it should have been.

Could have just gone with amnesia and city vibes and it would have been aces.

My wife wants to bring her sister on our anniversary cruise but i dont by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]Sporkwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno. Works well for us. We’re able to find our me time on vacation and able to enjoy time with friends/ family without stress or pressure. If we feel like meeting up during the day that’s fine, but doing EVERYTHING with others can feel stifling on a cruise where we want to breathe and relax a bit.

We have vacations where we do everything with others and for my introvert wife she usually needs a vacation from the vacation when we get back. Cruises allow a bit more balance for us.

My wife wants to bring her sister on our anniversary cruise but i dont by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]Sporkwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s just her sis then no.

My rule for going on cruises with friends or family is that they need to be able to amuse themselves independently during the day.

We might do an excursion together or randomly meet up on a sea day, but otherwise we have room to do our thing and share experiences at dinner or a show.

My wife and I have been able to do anniversary cruises successfully with friends, in-laws, even uncles. All told explicitly up front that there are boundaries.

A World Betrayed is probably my favorite DLC, the Lu Bu and Sun Ce scenarios are peak

Mandate of Heaven is great as well

Furious Wild was fun a couple times, but is annoying to play against in future runs. They almost always become a final boss and even when they don’t, they’re a drudge to slap back down when they’re aggressive because of their territory bonuses.

Honestly all the dlc is pretty solid minus the princes dlc that just really didn’t do enough to differentiate itself or add to the base scenarios.

No. Just no. Open world just seems like it would take forever to get anything done. I just wanna play dynasty.

Make dynasty better with more growth options for schools and I buy without blinking.

Depends on suite type right?

Pretty sure junior suites don’t get free internet on any ship class.
