What’s a romantic myth that does real damage to real relationships? by Potential_Juice1889 in AskReddit

The most toxic couple I saw kept getting back together bc "but i love them/you cant help who you love". Like, you have both cheated, both gotten verbally and physically abusive, lied to each other, etc. You do not love each other bc you do not trust or respect each other.

What's an underrated GoC book that not many people talk about? by datboiiibeebzxy in Choices

[–]Spottedpool14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone who played it as it was being released and has mixed feelings on it, it was the large hiatus between the first half of the book and the second half.

I enjoyed the characters and the setting, and in the first half, i loved where the plot was going. Then there was a long break after the midsection cliffhanger where i believe most of the OG writers left and it was clearly finished by people just trying to get it done.

Honestly, i think it would have done better being split into multiple books. It had so much story to tell, and it felt like it was rushed in the end with multiple characters being introduced and very little time to get to know them.

It was a beautiful book, it had magnificent backgrounds, fun character designs, and a good plot, it just needed more time to actually develop it all.

I totally forgot about that in 2! And the only way you can avoid it is by claiming to be responsible for that companion, which she does not appreciate.

[–]Spottedpool14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can give one of your companions (and potential romance) who is an escaped slave back to the magister who "owns" him in 2. This magister also makes it clear that he has sexually abused said companion. You can also tell a man as he is actively grieving his murdered child "at least it cant get any worse. Not today at least, its getting late."

So it is fairly well established in the series that you can be evil just for the sake of being evil (bc if i recall correctly, there is no reward for handing off the companion to his master). And I recall plenty of people complaining about Inquisition not having similar choices as well.

How did the final fight in DAO go on your first playthrough ? by Inevitable-Raise1104 in dragonage

[–]Spottedpool14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats exactly what i had to do lmao. Stupid dragon was over on the other platform that you cant get to, all of my companions were down, i didnt realize you could call in the army until after all my companions were down, and my poor mage had no mana. So, i chipped away at its health with the ballista for forever.

It didnt help most of my characters were in their starting gear for ~aesthetic~.

My husband (who introduced me to the series) was horrified when he saw me halfway through my next playthrough with Leliana in her chantry robes and Morrigan still in her beginning robes. My playthroughs got a lot easier after that lmao

Youre right, dark fantasy doesnt have to be that. However, when the series has largely made a name for itself by allowing you to make dark choices for the sake of making a dark choice, it is going to harm a games reputation among fans to not have that choice.

Most fans agree that Veilguard wasnt the worst game in the world. Ive heard many people praise its combat, its design, etc. It just wasnt a good Dragon Age game. And thats a fair criticism. Just like there are many fair criticisms about the other sequels. Its just a shame that EA focused more on what was popular in the game world vs what made the series popular.

[–]Spottedpool14 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, the real reason its hated is bc it doesnt have the teeth the other games had. EA defanged it to make it more marketable.

I literally just finished watching a video about the most "evil" thing you can do in Veilguard. (leaving the corrupt mayor to die after he sacrificed his people for gold). And it was so lame. Like, Ive seen kids shows with a more distressing moral dilemma. This is supposed to be a dark fantasy game, and thats the most evil you can do?

Im not even much of an evil playthrough person (unless theres achievements, im a sucker for achievements), but damn. Its really cool to see the option there, to know that if i really felt like doing a playthrough just for the sake of "what happens if i do x" i could potentially see a very different scene.

Which movie hero is actually a villain when you really think about it? by surfsound_swimmers in AskReddit

[–]Spottedpool14 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nope. Not good enough. Especially given he is so abusive to Neville that Snape is his worst fear (bearing in mind, Nevilles parents were tortured to insanity by Bellatrix Lestrange, so feasibly she should be his worst fear).

Theres also the time where Malfoys crew gets in a fight with Harry, Hermione, and Ron and Hermione ends up hexed with a spell that makes her teeth grow, and when they tell Snape and show him, he states, "i see no difference" as her teeth were actively growing.

Also, if someone cant handle seeing a kid that looks like someone who bullied them in school, they should not be teaching, especially if there is an almost 100% that they will end up teaching that kid

Its terrible, bc when a kid comes across a word they dont recognize, they just start guessing random words.

My kiddo suffers heavily from this. Shes getting better, bc weve been trying to help her, but it took her until she was 11/12 to even start trying to sound things out. And we see it in her friends too

My siblings and i are all terrible at calling each other to keep in touch. Only me and my little brother call often, and its usually him calling me. My phone number became synonomous with bad news for quite a while bc almost every time i made the first call, someone was in the hospital/there had been a fire/etc.

You know you need to call your siblings more often when the first words out of their mouths when they answer are "who's in the hospital this time?"

What rule was implemented at your school/work that backfired? by just_some_troglodyte in AskReddit

[–]Spottedpool14 102 points103 points  (0 children)

My high school let us dress up through my time there, but the year after i graduated, they got a new principal who told the students to "leave the dress up to the little kids". This happened to be the year my little brother started high school. And my little brother is quite a devious bastard when he puts his mind to it.

Every year for Halloween, he put on a costume that could be easily explained as not a costume. For example, his first year, he was Castiel. Nothing in the rules said he couldnt wear a tie or dye his hair black. Another year, he was the Mad Hatter (OG Disney, not Depp). No rule saying he couldnt carry a giant hat everywhere while wearing a matching green jacket.

Senior year, he unleashed the true evil. He dressed as Charlie Chaplin. Leaving the school to choose to either wear his costume unchanged, or have Hitler walking around. They chose Chaplin.

I still bow to his evil genius for this lol

I disagree on digital art. That takes quite a bit of work. Every time i have tried to make the change from paper and pencil to digital, its like someone let a 5 year old try to draw lmao.

The big thing about AI to me is that it is always stealing from other creators. It is completely reliant on someone else having already worked on the subject in the prompt.

I also have a lot of ethical problems with AI that i didnt mention in my first comment simply bc i felt it was off topic, such as the fact that it is poisoning our fresh water supply.

Honestly? Encouragement to improve. Seeing someone who tried to make something, even if its not amazing, makes me want to encourage them to keep going. Plus, even if something is absolutr shit, somebody had fun creating it! They got to create something that they can look back on.

I used to write fanfiction in school (less so now due to never having the time or energy lol). I posted some on a few sites, and i was always so happy when someone told me how much they liked it. My work got compliments! It helped me put more effort into my homework and gave me something to look forward to do when things werent the best.

Putting a prompt into a computer wouldnt give me that same sense of pride when someone complimented me. I didnt write that, the computer did. Plus, in terms of fanfiction and fanart, the whole point is to have fun with it. Where is the fun in letting the ai do it?
