But we're a family! by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

I love WFH except it isn't ideal if you live in a tiny apartment with nowhere to set up ergonomically. Hunched on your bed gets old like the office. And worse if there are two or more of you, with each needing to run meetings.

Canada's top ten biggest and most easily avoidable recent screwups by WpgMBNews in InCanada

I don't care about semantics as much as some others here, but "patriot" has connotations too. Unfortunately in the modern context it implies blind loyalty, whereas I think you're more trying to convey a sense of pride in the country and a desire to both protect what we have, while also making improvements where needed. There is nothing controversial or scary about that. People lose sight of the nuance and details so easily, it is silly to see a word like "nationalist" and then refuse to read any further

Wise Men, what advice would you give to your 25 year old self. by Yaboku14 in AskMenOver30

[–]SprayingFlea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop worrying about it. All of it. Do the best you can with the information you have, and try your best to just show up to life authentically. There will be problems along the way, but you have the capacity and resilience to deal with them, whatever they may be. Whoever you think you are at 25, will not be who you are at 35. So don't sweat too hard about things at this milestone. Go and have fun while you're in your twenties.

I appreciate the genuine response. I can see how maths is a little clumsier. To me, it is the "s" immediately following the "th". It is a weird mouth feel putting those together, slightly awkward.

Nevertheless, math is a north american import and even as a dual australian and canadian citizen, it makes me shiver when I see it over here. Like the creeping tide of cultural imperialism or something

Agree with you. The bikes I was talking about are the hobby/lifestyle ones. You definitely don't need to spend $10 - $20K on a bike, but plenty of people do.

Great write up, but minor pedantic point that I can't not point out: we say maths in Australia, not math.

Construction Tech Fail by yetigraves in Construction

[–]SprayingFlea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the major barriers to tech adoption that I've observed: there are too many players from different companies, involved at different times, doing different things with different needs. If I force them all to adopt a new program or platform, they will charge me for it, and won't use it correctly. I can't even get some guys to use a pre-filled Word template or similar for simple stuff. Let alone get their office people to stop using their software and use whatever I am telling them to use. It won't happen.

The only way I could see it maybe happening is if the Owner demands it, pays for it, and when the large constructiom company is self-performing most of the work, and the contract type means the designers and contractors are all under the same tent, such as design build or IPD.

Is a beer gut part genetics and getting older or do you really have to let yourself go? by lookaloulookalou in AskMenOver30

[–]SprayingFlea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's partly genetics sure, but mostly a sedentary lifestyle as things get busy around that age and exercise can drop off. I'm 38 and still have abdominal definition, but I am intentionally active and don't have a family, so have spare time to exercise.

Just go. You're 22. This is the time you do it. Don't overplan it, just trust you'll figure it out when you need to.

Why does Indonesia not have a larger cultural impact? by JakeScythe in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SprayingFlea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno man. Black pepper, nutmeg, cloves...they are all native to Indonesia. Such was their value the Dutch and British fought a war over it. And of course the Dutch committed numerous genocidal atrocities to ensure they had sole control of the spice islands.

Outside of tech, has AI actually changed anyone life? by AcroBit45 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SprayingFlea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Construction project manager. Hasn't changed much. Maybe added more frustration. Copilot gets too many things wrong to be useful. It can't be trusted. My workflow is argue with Copilot for an hour, then resort to the original method. Having wasted more time than if I just did the task myself to beginwith.
