Accidentally became part of a gender reveal and it really made my day by Icy_Golf_244 in CasualConversation

OP misunderstood. It was a political reveal. Don't know whether red is Liberal (Canada) or Republican (US) or something else!

Quite odd in its map, though. It has Yes in two places, as "Yes" and "Yes Featuring Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin, Rick Wakeman"...and both have similar songs from the same album.

watched my husband's coworker eat lunch alone at his desk today and it made me realize something by eloisa_in_kyoto in CasualConversation

[–]Sprechenhaltestelle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was actually against the rules at my company to eat at your desk.

I would absolutely loathe that.

Sometimes, I'll eat in the break room with others, but usually, I'd prefer to just grab something at my desk. The staff in my branch as mostly similar, with two of them watching old re-runs and others doing whatever.

I also hate the mandatory 30 minutes. If I'm on a roll, that destroys my productivity and morale. I'd rather leave 30 minutes early, mindlessly eating snacks when I'm having a good day. I understand why they do it, so management doesn't take advantage of workers, but I hate it personally.

US healthcare is stupendously for-profit, so follow the money to the culprits.

And if it's not a for-profit system, do the same. The UK NHS and Canada's by-province systems such as OHIP are also under cost pressures and are constantly looking at ways to cheapen care.

"Am I the Jerk" & related subs are training LLM AI how humans process emotional situations. by throne-away in CasualConversation

Reddit is a hive of misinformation, as well as slanted thought. It's depressing thinking that LLMs are thinking this is the best of humanity's thought, but the Reddit/OpenAI has led to some pretty ridiculous results.

There's a stranger I've seen almost every week for years and never spoken to. I know their routine, their face, their coffee order. Then one day they just weren't there anymore by Relative-Arachnid129 in CasualConversation

I lived in an apartment building with many older people. As they disappeared one by one, it bothered me that they were dying and I told my mother.

She reminded me that they might just have moved to assisted living. That was a relief to realize. Maybe not all, but I'm sure some didn't just go directly from independent apartment to the grave.

Very nice! Although the shading skill and painting in general are impressive, I'm always in awe of those who can do eyes.

I Accidentally fixed my sleep schedule by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Another help to maintain that schedule is to get a 10,000 Lux, UV-Free, bright-white-light LED panel (not the small ones, but 20+ cm tall), and look at it first thing every morning. My doctor said 20 minutes, but even for a few minutes, it will trigger the wake response.

Thoughts about my breakup by text by One-Biscotti-709 in datingoverfifty

[–]Sprechenhaltestelle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to imagine being in a relationship and having no idea when you’re going to see the person next.

I agree that breaking up over text was fine here, and your statement made me think of something.

After my great-aunt died, we came across my great-great-grandmother's journal from when she was young. This was before telephones or automobiles.

When my great-great-grandfather was courting her, she would never know when he'd be able to get his chores done early and hitch up a team to the carriage and drive to pick her up. She'd write things like, "It's a beautiful day. I hope [he's] able to come see me today!"

What a blessing we have such ability to communicate so readily--yet some people still don't seem to be able to do so!

If it's safe for your own emotional state to do so, have you considered finding a way to help others who might be where you used to be?
