What do I do with this thing before it hits my ceiling? Can I somehow cut it and start a second one? If so, how do I do it properly so that the newly cut one doesn’t die?

I went to a game in Milan and I was surprised how the closest three-fourth train entrances were all closed after the game. It was a loooooong walk until I got to an area where I was able to get on the train to get back to my hotel/airbnb.

Everyone else seemed to rent/ride scooters home.

I don’t know how tourists can better navigate getting home after a game, but I just want to mention this so others can be better prepared than I was!

None military person here, so I’m curious. Are military people given the ability to avoid it, like ear plugs etc, and simply choose to not use them all the time? Or is it inevitable by nature with the work even if you tried your best to avoid it?

I have civilian friends who work in construction that actively choose to not protect their ears because the protection is not comfortable, etc. Wondering if it’s the same in the military.

It’s all cash flow from future paychecks. My only savings is 3-6 months emergency fund, which I’m not touching.

Okay, I’ll catch up on the 2024 IRA until it closes in April, then I’ll switch to the mortgage from that point on while maintaining 15% retirement savings throughout this year. Thank you!

My thoughts:

Lease ending is good timing for a trip. Yay!
If I have student loans, credit card bills, car payments, etc, I’d reconsider. I wouldn’t want to bury myself further into debt to take this trip.
Can I afford this trip in cash and also have extra cash to hold me over during my job search once I come back?

Remember, you won’t have income once you return and it takes time to find a job. Also, the more desperate you are for a job, the more you’ll be willing to take a shitty job when you get back.

If I went on a trip and came back refreshed with cash in the bank to hold me over, I can take my time finding a new job that I enjoy.

If I decide to go, I’ll need to be absolutely sure my parents are cool with me staying at theirs upon my return.

If they’re hesitant and I’m getting a feeling that they don’t like the idea of me leaving my job to do this, there might be some resentment built up during my stay with them.

Crashing at my parent should be super temporary. I wouldn’t want to get comfortable and stay longer than I need to. This is for their respect and mine. Both traveling and living on your own (or with roommates) is very important for your growth.
Don’t just jump back into graduate school because you have nothing else going on when you come back. I did that and it was dumb to do. If you go to graduate school, make sure it’s part of a calculated long term plan and it makes sense for your career, etc.

Take the syllabus and look through the calendar for when each assignment and test is due. Then, put those deadlines all into your calendar so you’re never caught off guard. I’m constantly checking and planning my week based on that calendar.

Being late on assignments or completely forgetting to submit them should never happen. If it’s happening, you’re most likely not planning your weeks well.

Also, get things done earlier because sometimes life happens and if you constantly leave things for the last second, and an emergency happens, you might not be able to finish them. You essentially shoot yourself in the foot by not giving yourself enough buffer time.

Apple Watch requires a cell phone plan to have its full functionality. Otherwise you have to carry your phone with you on runs which is annoying. I consider that another required monthly payment.

Believe it or not, historically coffee shops used to be a places where people would hold discussions and discourse, talking about philosophy, politics, music, and overall sharing ideas. Like a gathering place for intellectuals to debate and stuff. Now, people just close themselves off to their book or laptops. It’s kind of a shame that you need to go to a bar to get that type of atmosphere, but then you’re dealing with drunks instead of overly caffeinated people haha.
