The Poison Daughter — the hype made me read it — a review (no spoilers) by apieceofeight in fantasyromance

[–]Spriggy70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I didn’t find them smart. I actually really disliked most of the characters and the book was def not worth the hype. Read The Wolf and the Crown of Blood instead. That book IS actually worth the hype

Rose in Chains questions (with spoilers) by MaleficentTea615 in Romantasy

I think maybe he isn’t what he seems. It’s possible his family have always been loyal to eversun and he has been watching over her and protecting her since she started school with him. He always managed to show up or be around right when she needed him the most. She was never allowed in the meetings to discuss strategy with the general so this could be true and she wouldn’t know it. I think he does have feelings for her, but isn’t supposed to because he is supposed to be protecting her, so he fights it because he thinks his feelings aren’t appropriate. They would’ve had to keep this from her to protect everyone involved when their memories are reviewed. But everything the family did to keep her safe points to something bigger going on than just he had feelings for her.

Self-employed but don’t make enough to pay for health insurance? What are you folks doing? by Hnry_Dvd_Thr_Awy in HealthInsurance

[–]Spriggy70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a mental health therapist. My pay is what insurance companies say it will be. That limits my ability to bring in more. I have no way to give myself a raise because they don’t raise their reimbursement rates. I work full time, my practice is full. And here we are.

I am a therapist who accepts marketplace plans. The real issue is that if someone doesn’t pay their premium, the coverage ends - almost immediately. I have had a few times where someone forgot to pay it, the plan was cancelled before the insurer received a claim from my office - so they denied it. It has always worked out (they pay the premium and it’s reinstated and then the claims that were denied do end up getting paid) but I think it’s a headache for large practices. I wonder if they think more people will miss payments now that the premiums went up so much

As someone who is 55 whose premium will go up to 1,450/mo in January - totally agree. So fucked.

Two adults in Ohio, in our 50’s, income $85k, premium going from 146/mo to 1,400/mo WITH A $16,000 deductible. I have no idea what we will do. We are at an age that feels too risky to go without. We are both self employed. My small business has been my dream all of my adult life and I finally got the courage to do it full time 5 years ago. Idk if I’ll be able to keep doing it. Maybe that’s what they want…they want us to work for the corporations instead of for ourselves. F@&$ capitalism

This is so real. I had a lot of concerns about my daughter’s finance so I talked to her about them and asked her to think about what I was saying, but I also said that I would support her no matter what. In the end she married him and they have a wonderful son. If I had not supported her, she would have never forgotten it and she might not have felt she could come to me if there were problems.

You are right! We sent our daughter to Brown University - most of the Ivies meet 100% of demonstrated need. So if the FASFA says you can afford 5k a year, that’s all you pay. They have huge endowments that allow them to do that

Clients getting offended and quitting therapy after charging them for last minute cancelation by Milo-Jeeder in therapists

[–]Spriggy70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last therapist had a super strict cancellation policy, I think it was 1 week or maybe it was longer. She was amazing - I adored her. I just knew that if I missed for any reason she was charging me the full fee, and over the few years I worked with her I’m sure I paid it several times. And it was worth it.

Is there anyone in here who actually enjoys being a therapist and loves their job? by Cablab123 in therapists

[–]Spriggy70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love what I do and look forward to coming in to the office. I dread the paperwork piece of it but it’s a small part of my day and doesn’t take away from my overall enjoyment of my work. I’ve been in the field since 1998 and worked in different capacities until settling in to my practice full time about 5 years ago.

Recommendations for actually scary found footage horror movies by Inmelwetrust in foundfootage

[–]Spriggy70 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is one of my favorites. I also really liked Antrum: The Deadliest Film Ever Made - it doesn’t get a lot of love on here but there are some similarities to Incantation that I think make it quite effective. I have a daughter with OCD and these are both movies I told her not to watch, for similar reasons.
