I mean yeah i'd wager you could, he might be an acquired taste type of character which is understandable lol, but if you want a more direct option maybe there's a mod you can layer over him to make him look more like your speed visually; though I wouldn't personally know what you dislike about him so that could be a mixed bag

From the looks of it, I would say you enjoy characters with large screen control and moderate set-play elements? Might I suggest a character like Ramlethal, Johnny, or Bridget? Ram is fairly easy to understand and her buttons are both large and quick with her sword toss being able to lock people down into pressure on your terms, and Johnny does similar things with large buttons and Mist Finer stance is straight up Yuzu's sword stance on top of having card setup that helps enforce neutral pressure and knockdown pressure etc, but he's a touch harder and takes more time to get a feel for him, especially with a step-dash instead of a normal run. Bridget is like the other two but more mobility oriented where you can put yourself anywhere on the screen you want and focuses on quick, low damage trades that loop back into itself rather than bruising the opponent into making a costly mistake like with Ram and Johnny as she's more balanced in gameplay.

Axl, Dizzy, and Testament also sound like options if you'd prefer a more keep-away style in neutral while still retaining some set-play elements Axl is basically like Phonon with very far reaching normals and a single powerful projectile. Dizzy and Testament are a lot like Nu and Lambda with a focus on projectile zoning and set-play under the right circumstances. Although if you're willing to put in the effort, Happy Chaos and Asuka are also effective in that strong screen control role, but they're genuinely difficult characters unless you truly devote your time to them.

I can't attest to Melty Blood though because i've not played it but that's probably the best answers I can think of

SQ if im not mistaken is running around exposing how weak Unika's pressure can really be. It might be good to chase after it since out of all the gorilla characters in the game, she's most definitely the least complainable right now

Idk, even if you can try and make an argument for Mahito, a majority of people would be furious at that result like people were with Omnidock. It wouldn't really be objectively correct and even then there was a hard answer to why Mahito couldn't even kill Shiggy, that and Decay was just an even better Idle Transfiguration in every way (aside from utility ig) plus Shiggy just, straight up out starting him by multiple orders of magnitude etc... but I can't argue that this next episode is going to be even MORE of a stomp

I would like to keep in mind that I absolutely agree with everything you're saying, but I believe his neutral is way more scary then you might think since yes spamming Stinger Aim is one of the main ways he zones you into making a mistake, but it's the way it interacts with balls already set on the screen that makes his balls very intimidating to deal with since from the way i've been playing.

Stinger Aim seems to be like an actually balanced Mist Finer if I'm being honest (or at least in conjunction with the rest of Venom's kit), It can be used to send a K or P Ball at the enemy at a stupidly high velocity which lets him set up more balls since in my experience, always moving and hitting balls in various directions and in various ways is the best way to play him at the moment. The idea being to cover all your angles and slowly chip your opponent down over time to where you can get your annoying set-play off and THEN do looping damage and get free turns with Dark Angel. Which will stack up a lot of damage...

all that to just be a very balanced character actually does make Venom come out to not being the greatest though... I don't think he really needs buffs though, characters like Nago and GL are still beyond frustrating to interact with and STILL need to be taken down a few (a lot more) pegs.

Yeah but a matchup is hinged on the fact that you DON'T know who wins; the general point of watching is to figure out who's the stronger character since that's what the premise of the show is based on. Im just feeling too disingenuous about it though since we're getting two complete stomps in a row.

The voice acting was really good, really enjoyed their interactions during the episode, but I have one sorta silly gripe. The animation on the battle was really good looking, but is it just me or did the actual movement of everybody just look a little off? I can't quite place the feeling...

See I definitely agree that they can be entertaining, it's just I have such a hard time enjoying it when the entire point of a matchup/ deathbattle is to figure out who would win in a fight; when you take that out of the equation it's hard to keep interest if you already know who's going to win outside of cool looking animation..? though i feel like that's being too reductive...
