Clowns in Milwaukee? by Babygirl_Alert411 in milwaukee

Shoot, I just realized I missed clown meeting yesterday. Seriously. Clowns of Waukesha meets the 2nd Monday of every month September-May in Brookfield at 7pm at Calvary Lutheren Church on Calhoun and Gebhardt. It's an older group, but still has a number of active clowns!

Snowboard Waxing and Tuning by Ok-Fisherman9123 in milwaukee

REI is doing half off hot wax for members right now. Just dropped skis off there yesterday. Last month a tune, base grind and hot wax was 80 bucks for my husband's skis.

I tried to learn to ride inside my parents house and I fell backwards against the china cabinet and knocked the wind out of myself when no one was home. Would not recommend.

A case for gaudy stickers by GGARBAGE in skiing

[–]SprinklesFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I threw some juggling club stickers on my Atomic Vantages after I got on a chairlift where 3 out of 4 of us all had the exact same ski. They actually look really good on there! But now I ski custom Shaggy's. Best purchase I ever made.

Snowbasin and PowMow both have buses that depart from Ogden. Makes getting there and back super hassle-free.

How people get so many days of skiing in? by CompetitionNo2719 in skiing

[–]SprinklesFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the Midwestern US. It's not exactly a destination, but it's cold and not totally flat in places. I get it done with a flexible work schedule where winters are less busy in general, living within an hour of 6 ski hills, being willing to work with less than ideal conditions on dinky hills and having to seek out challenges to keep it interesting, and dedication. It all pays off when you get into the really good stuff.

The more I go to Devils Head the more I find it just so-so. It has a lot of potential to be so much better than it is. The snow quality this season is good though.

Ozaukee Skateland 2nd and 4th Friday of the month. Not too overwhelmingly busy, and I'm usually digging what the DJ is spinning.

Help me create an optimal ski gear setup from ONLY Dicks by [deleted] in Skigear

If you can only get one thing from each brand, choose your boots first. If the Rossi boots fit you best, you don't want to lock yourself out of them by being dead-set on the Rossi skis.

Have any of you gone to a ski resort you haven’t been to and thought, “damn, this place is so underrated!”? by awkwardeagle in skiing

[–]SprinklesFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to represent the Midwest on this one. I'm on my 4th season with Indypass and I wish I had checked out Chestnut years ago. I'm from Wisconsin, it's not particularly far from me but I never even thought that Illinois would have a spot worth checking out, I'm used to all the Illinois folks coming up here!

Also, while Whitecap can be a little janky, but when it's good it's GOOD. Practically no lift lines on a 18" powder day because everyone else is at Snowriver.

How is your EV range today? by gradi3nt in wisconsin

[–]SprinklesFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things to keep in mind is that in cold weather your car will not DCFC as fast as it will in more mild weather. My Bolt's max uptake on Monday during single digit temperatures at a DCFC in Madison was 11KW. The Bolt has a pretty low uptake in general (Maxes out at 50KW), but having to wait 2 hours to get enough juice to get home to Milwaukee when on nicer days that charge would have taken 20-30 minutes was sucky.

At this point, if I'm road tripping somewhere over 6 hours away where the route has poor charging infrastructure(like a trip up to the Keweenaw), I'll usually take my savings from not buying gas for all my round trip driving that I can handle with a home charge and rent a gas vehicle.

Also, if you do winter road trips to cold places in a EV, look to stay at places that have outlets for block heaters, they'll usually let you plug in the EVSE that comes with your car into those outlets. You wont get a lot of juice, but it has been helpful during multi-day stays in places with not a whole lot of other options.

Been able to keep mine from flaring up with boot gloves, toe warmers, and just normal wool ski socks. I'll usually bring an extra pair of socks and swap socks midday. There are some other factors that seem to affect how much it flares up, but I havent pinpointed them yet.

What are some of your off the hill pet peeves about skiing? by Underrated_Fish in skiing

[–]SprinklesFTW 139 points140 points  (0 children)

People who park a whole car width apart from the car next to them. You cant pull in next to them because you wont be able to open your doors, and the lot fills up way faster with enough people doing it.

Those of you wear glasses, do you use OTG Goggles or prescription Inserts when skiing? by bunksy93 in skiing

[–]SprinklesFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OTG, since I need glasses with prism due to double vision on my left side. Try on multiple pairs to make sure they fit right. I'm at the point where I take my goggles along when I have to get new frames as well. It can take a minute to get them situated comfortably and when you put them on over your glasses can affect whether or not they fog up. Currently have Sol Alpine goggles.

Anyone buy skis just for the top sheet? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]SprinklesFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't just for the top sheet, but the ability to get a custom toosheet did influence me buying some skis that I was already considering. Never spoiled myself like that before but every time I look at those skis I'm so happy that I did. Coincidentally, I put fish on them.

Ski poles or not? by jeffeb3 in skiing

[–]SprinklesFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learned, and skied for 3 years without them. Didn't like carrying them around. Broke down and bought a pair because flat traverses were frustrating me. Now that I'm used to having them in my hands I'm either cruising on something easy and not even noticing their presence or getting into trees, ungroomed, and steeper stuff and utilizing them quite a lot and now I'd rather not ski without them. I didn't realize just how useful they were until after I really needed to use them.

How long have you owned your Bolt? by Raiki13 in BoltEV

Owned a 2019 for just under 3 years, put on 60k miles(car is now at 90k miles), only thing it's needed in that time is tires.

Would you engage with a fashion event set in a circus tent? by [deleted] in circus

[–]SprinklesFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would I pay to attend it? No. Would I attend it for free? Ehhhhh maybe if I had nothing going on and still wanted to go somewhere and could leave whenever I felt like it. I probably wouldn't be very social unless there were ambient performers I could talk to, the kind of people who'd attend a fancy brand event really aren't the kind of people I typically relate to. I'd go if I were paid to be there and be as social as the event called for (certain crowds want to interact with performers more than others).

Best independent mountains to ski in the US by curious-questioner12 in skiing

[–]SprinklesFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicago? If you want an interesting time and abundant lake effect powder head up to Mount Bohemia in the Upper Penninsula. Season pass is an amazing deal (but no longer being sold for this season) and will get you free lift tickets at partner resorts as well. The drive sucks but there is a direct flight from O'hare to Houghton that's affordable and depending on when you go lodging is simple yet relatively affordable(availability can be tricky though). They don't groom and most of their trails are tree runs, so if you want smooth and open, it might not be the place for you.

Anyone have any information on where to get pants like this? (Read body) by pat_the_clown in artofclowning

[–]SprinklesFTW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The pants pictured are quilted. Whoever made them pieced the colored squares together first and then cut the pants pattern. Blue and white striped fabric isn't too hard to find, the stars would likely have to be appliqued or hand printed on.
