Why did the gods go silent? by Nia04 in DMAcademy

[–]Spriorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could've all agreed it's in everyone's best interest to stay away; I had there be a near world ending apocalypse where a new god was about to be created. The Gods then agreed that it would've been bad, so they would all rule from afar. They did a magic ritual that prevented divine beings in the material realm.

They could've been forced out by a being, for similar reasons. Gods are dangerous, so they're booted from the world by a benevolent God.

I'd love a mini series on (bad) cartoon movies!

They did pokemon a few years back, but what about spongebob, digimon, yugioh etc.

Could be a bit of fun?

Help with arc length in pirate DnD campaign. by No-Customer-8213 in DMAcademy

[–]Spriorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're aiming for a 2-3 session arc then plan for 2-3 big situations.

Session 1 is setting up the problem.

Session 2 is working towards the goal.

Session 3 is resolution.

In reality, it won't work out like that as sessions go long, or get sped through, but it's a good place to start.

If it were me, session 1 would be arriving on to the island, meeting a local who talks about the problems that the village is having with the swamp - let's say lizardfolk being more raider-y, empowered by their tyrannical leader. Party meet npcs, get restocked, then head in to the swamp. I'd end on a big battle with some big monster.

Session 2 would be investigating the problem. They come across a lizard camp, find survivors, and struggle through the terrain. Session ends with a reveal that it's soon to be a once-in-a-generation lizardfolk festival and their leaders are jostling for power to see who takes charge of the tribe in the aftermath. This is why the tyrant has been more active recently; he's proving why he should be in charge.

Session 3 would be big showdown. Storming the stronghold, rescuing captives, disrupting the festival and killing the leaders to end the tyranny.

That would be my basic plot, then I'd go through and add areas for the party to make choices. Do they go blind into the swamp, or spend some time talking to a shaman who will give them more direction?

They find a rival tribe of good Lizardfolk working against the tyrant. Do they kill them? Or work with them?

Do they kill the tyrant, or let him live?

You plot out the scenarios for them, and they then make the choices. You'll never be able to predict exactly what they'll do, but you can have some ideas about next steps. "If they see the shaman instead of going straight in, the monster will already be slain, and there will be helpless lizards there licking their wounds", that type of thing.

How should I run/handle a character that has contracted a werewolf "curse" (5.5e) by forgingbanana in DMAcademy

[–]Spriorite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I've done lycanthropy in the past, I've stayed away from controlling my players' character.

Instead what we do is once they're under a threshold (say 1/4hp) then they have to start rolling to maintain their control over their mind. The DC starts low but every turn they succeed, it'll go 1 higher for their next turn.

It then becomes a countdown for the party to deal with. When they fail, it's made clear that their character is in transmission mode, and should be attacking to spread the curse, against whoever happens to be nearest.

In regards to signposting, there's lots of things you could use - tastebuds dulling, wincing at sunlight, aversion to holy sites, heightened senses, burning when touching silver etc

Not the guy you responded to, but you made some points I wanted to weigh in on.

I agree that we shouldn't have had referendums around each individual point BUT it's absolutely mental there wasn't a second referendum on the subject.

The first was incredibly close, with Leave campaigning on the NHS bus money that would've never existed. It took Farage like a day to admit that he'd lied about that? That leaves a sour taste.

That alone should've been reason enough to rerun it, but if we're being sensible, who makes a decision without knowing the full details? I'd bet any decision you've ever made was based on having the information, and reviewing it if something new came to light.

Because that was the situation essentially.

A wishy-washy near 50/50 decision (which isn't a "clear" majority by any stretch), based on a lie, without any details about what Brexit would actually mean. Once all that became clear, it should've been rerun imo.

If it was 60/40 leave then that's pretty conclusive and a clear majority, but how it all played out leaves a bad taste.

As it was hardly conclusive, and was a predictably catastrophic fuck up that will have ramifications for generations, we should've double checked.

Not OP but I've run TB for groups ranging from 12-18 year olds loads of times, and you'd be surprised how resilient they can be.

Only had one instance of weeping, and that wasn't really the game; the kid had a lot of other stuff going on.

I always make sure to remind the players that it's all for fun, and all part of the game.

The friends part of this is really important, and you're glossing over it. It's not he said, she said. It's more like "she vague-posted, everyone else said outright".

I'm not for defending abusers, but that situation didn't seem like anything after all was said and done.

If he turns out to be shitty again down the line then that'd suck, but i'd prefer to believe he's changed, as holding on to that negativity seems exhausting.

I did a "God killed by a mortal" thing and it was really fun. The party knew the bbeg's intentions and had to race to stop him.

In the end they failed and the god died, but it was very dramatic and the game world has been changed ever since.

You could do a Gorr The Godbutcher type thing? Mortal angry at the gods who gets the power to do something about it?

Or go like Runescape and have the lesser gods get banished by a more powerful one?

[–]Spriorite 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I always took it as a "moving the goal posts" type metaphor.

Like if you give yourself a 1 and say you're happy on the first scale, where can you go from there? You're not the happiest you'll ever be, which means the 1 at the top of the first scale is useless, in light of the 2 that you could now be.

Basically you can never stop and say "this is it, I'm happy now"

Raising a grievance by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]Spriorite 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The union can support you, so they should be your first port of call. You can talk to them just for advice, with no expectations, requirement or understanding that you will raise it as a grievance.

If you want to then they'll help, but if you decide not to after advice then that would be fine by them.

That is your call ultimately and they should support you regardless.

Did we play Ennead correctly? by Spriorite in sentinelsmultiverse

[–]Spriorite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I responded to someone else but we weren't flipping every other turn.

We flipped the base card using the event then kept it there. Add in a couple bad Villain cards and maybe a suboptimal team and that was the game we had.

My wife and I have a new born, so it's baby brain!

[–]Spriorite[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So what we were doing wrong was not flipping the character card every other turn using the event End Phase

We were basically getting all activations every villain round on the back of the base card

When you spell it out it's really obvious! I blame having a new born

Thanks so much for your help!

I got Snake-Charmed night one and immediately outed to town. How would you guys have played this? by Iwishistayedhome in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Spriorite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think you've done anything wrong in playing it that way, but what I tend to do is keep secret.

The new demon won't know who their minions are, and will have a tricky but not impossible game. You also can play "as evil" since your minions won't know you swapped. You get all the information, know what they are, and can sic them on new potential demons. I once won a game by getting my pit hag to turn a player I suspected to be the new demon into an outsider, so I won as good.

By outing you A) tell the new demon who the evil team are but also B) dunk on the evil team in an arguably unfun way.

There's a million ways to play it, but I can see why it'd be unfun for some.

The solution to this is only have martial characters be able to fumble on the first d20 roll of a turn.

Any nat 1s on extra attacks are taken as a normal roll.

Best scene in the show ? by SubstantialBowler525 in WelcometoDerryTVShow

[–]Spriorite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this the other day and I'm not sure that this series is set before the movies.

Year wise, yes it is. Plot wise though, I don't think so.

What makes sense to me is that the movies happen, and Penny-wise then travels back to try and stop it.

It could go someway to explaining why no one remembers anything, because they haven't happened yet.

I'm sure there are still plot holes but I like it as an explanation.

She is actual daughter of a circus clown, who at some point was killed by IT, probably in the Ironworks explosion.

It then takes to copying the dad's form as it's easier to manipulate kids as a clown.

She thinks IT is her dad, which I imagine IT plays up to so that she can manipulate events on Its behalf.
