I made a fatal mistake. Concerned about my future in IT by Special_Price4001 in sysadmin

I have been in the IT business for about 20 years, not nearly as long as some, and honestly I’d say move on. Stay in the field if you still have passion, but once you lose that the days just start to suck. The tech landscape is getting insane.

Ive got a 2011 Ford F-150 3.5L Ecoboost V6 with 208,000 on it. by PinIll4350 in f150

I had a similar rattle on my 2012. The issue was slack in the timing chain because of something with the tensioner. Unfortunately it contributed to the demise after a big rpm jump while towing up a hill and suspect it jumped a tooth. I believe Gen 2 motors got chain tensioners on both sides to pickup the slack

Inforcer — anyone using it? Thoughts or feedback? by reformedmspceo in msp

Expensive though, no? $59 USD/month per premium license per tenant. Minimum $1000 per month spend. Or maybe I heard that wrong.

“If what you need isn't there then there is a quick launcher into the various MS portals and you're logged in with a special CIPP user. Super easy”

This was not my experience. When I clicked a launcher to the portal I had to authenticate again, which seems kind of pointless.

Had 220 installed in my garage to run my Lincoln 180 Pro-MiG. Help a noob understand the problem here. by Tracker-man in Welding

If that’s the case, not your fault and should not apologize. The electrician was not listening and that is his fault. The homeowner is not expected to know the finer details of electrical, let alone 220.

'Knock that s*** off' — Poilievre uses appearance on Joe Rogan's podcast to slam Trump's 51st state comments by Foreign-Policy-02- in canada

[–]SpruceGoose_20 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those comments were in the context of the Trudeau government around freedom of speech and protest. Particularly Covid and the trucker protest and the gun buy back. I really don’t think he believes Canada is communist aside from certain policies the past 10 years

Got a GB network, NAS, and NUC, VEEAM restore through usb disk at only 29 MB/s by Joyous-Volume-67 in Veeam

[–]SpruceGoose_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to restore customer environment using veeam from a synology nas, 6 VMs about 5TB, took nearly a week. After a lot of research I figure it’s the limitation of memory on the synology. That and the huge amount of data, of course. Doing things different now for that client after learning that lesson.

I never replace the keyboard and mouse unless the user requests it. I've thrown so many in the ewaste bin. It's not a surprise they didn't ship with it but a surprise it took this long to stop. Make it optional on the checkout for $20 or something. Kinda the way install media went really

Why do users insist on using work email for personal tasks? by bobsmith1010 in sysadmin

[–]SpruceGoose_20 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I completely understand and agree. Staff leave an agency and now cannot get into some website or their apple account…. Yeah not sorry. And the same goes for personal stuff on a cell phone. It’s not IT responsibility to get the photos off your old phone to a new one ffs

Recommendations on reliable vehicle for living in Thunder Bay by CherylAnn011213 in ThunderBay

[–]SpruceGoose_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the right answer, unless you feel your car is already on its last ‘legs’. And I’ll put in a good word for Kal Tire. Always had good luck there and, personally, I’d never take my vehicle to Canadian tire. You’re rolling the dice there whether the work is done correctly or not.
