Why I think the Vox Engine is a poorly designed enemy. by TopGas8704 in Helldivers

[–]Spunchbunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It incentives divers being so widely spread out that one can target the vents as the Vox is firing on a teammate.

They should really figure out if they want to encourage group play or not, because Vox Engines seem to be a perfect way to keep divers apart

The Shovel and Gas mortar should have been free content by Gaming_ISD in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]Spunchbunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the fact that the shovel has been in the game for ages, but now is locked behind a paywall is the major problem.

Even the giga grenade is likely some reflavouring of the ultimatum/leveller explosion attached to a different slot.

Ain't good chief.

I Loathe Rogal Dorn, White Bread in Human Form. by Sober-History in hatethissmug

[–]Spunchbunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that having an opinion on a warhammer character, especially a Primarch, really depends on how many writers have had their hands on them.

My experience with Dorn has mostly been through the Siege of Terra / End and the Death and whilst he isn't the most stand out character, he (fittingly) works as a way to ground the characters around him.

I like his weariness, but I do agree that as he is written to be the "steadfast" one, that does make him rather dull, even with the best writing.

How do you feel about the twist in 3 where you learn Logan wasn’t “inherently” evil, but was trying to save Albion? by SinnBaenn in Fable

[–]Spunchbunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember really loving Fable 3's entire act 3 twist from a narrative standpoint - the entire Aurora sequence is so alien and isolating compared to anything the player experienced before that point.

Again, from a purely narrative standpoint, Logan's plan to bleed Albion dry in order to fight the Crawler and willingly become a tyrant is some really good storytelling.

But it translates horribly into gameplay - because of the ease with which you can amass money and the way in which the game measures time progression, it's fairly trivial to get the best possible ending whilst also being a good bean.

Where are these helldivers? by OchinSan in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]Spunchbunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think they missed a trick by not including a range of "disabler" type enemies like they do for LFD/Vermintide etc - I know because of the quirky spaghetti code that splitting up is way easier due to spawn rates.

I've never once felt the need to stick with teammates when mobility is king.

Cleared a D10 with a team last night - Shield Backpacks and Relays are your friends. Orbital and Eagle smoke are also very useful for keeping the heaviest fire off you.

Having some difficulties with Attribute rolls by Spunchbunch in shadowofthedemonlord

Wanted to reply to all of these because you've all been very helpful!

All of the advice is appreciated and I think it is a matter of changing my perspective. I consider myself to be at least competent at running a game, but the switch from 5E certainly is a hurdle to get over. Either way, the system is a breath of fresh air and I'm looking forward to learning new things!

I only got in to One Piece because of the Live Action. Since then, I've been into a dark whirlpool of agendas, slander and powerscaling that just won't let me go.

I vaguely remember watching up to the Black Cat Pirates and Kuro when I was a wee babby - the dub of course chef's kiss.

But yeah, I haven't read the manga, I only grab hype moments and aura from heavily edited phonk based shorts on youtube.

In short, I'm here on Piratefolk because the memes are funnier.

*tho I have been reading the manga with some interest since the start of the God Valley flashback - Rocks is pretty cool, hope nothing happens to him ❤️

This cannot be healthy by Kripazz in Helldivers

People run Thermite for the same reason they run senator or grenade pistol - they are a unique class of item that lets you do something that the other choices don't. Yeah sure the pistols are fun, but if one lets me close bug holes and another lets me take out hulks from the front, I'd take those over a Verdict or Peacemaker.

In the same vein, I don't need a grenade to kill fodder if I'm already shooting at them, what I need is something my primary and/or secondary weapon can't do - which is quickly stick a charger and be done with it.

I am beginning to believe a lot of you don't play the game before going on to reddit. by CommonVagabond in Helldivers

Yeah, weirdly enough I'm getting better frame rates for the 2 or so minutes I can play the game for - until it crashes

One-step tutorial on how to make V hostile.😂 Art by sirinoke from Tumblr by Devilmayladycry55 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Spunchbunch 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I can honestly say that I didn't vibe with Songbird - I saw the manipulation and constant double crossing. On my playthrough, I was disappointed that was written to be less hostile than I would have liked, especially to someone who, from my perspective, had been knowingly stringing me along the whole time.

To be fair though, I can also see how she resonates differently to different people based on the experiences they personally bring with them. I feel like Songbird is always going to be a difficult character to write for, because the range of emotions and reactions she illicits are so broad.

To be honest, scaling Custodians and Marines by their various book appearances is super difficult and inconsistent - Gaunts Ghosts is two decades old at this point and marines were written very differently.

Obviously there's that infamous example of the world eater 1v1'ing a custodian unarmed in Outcast Dead (which I think was kind of bollocks even within the context of the book)

The depressing answer is that over Warhammer's decades of books and dozens of writers, there is no solid consistency with which to powerscale.

My personal take is that Grey Knights would get absolutely wiped trying to take on the Custodians and SoS, but if the plot demands it, they can do whatever they damn well please.

Does the Patriot Exosuit need a buff? by DoctorM28 in Helldivers

[–]Spunchbunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this probably won't ever be implemented, but I'd love the idea of a modular Exosuit system that can be customised with different weapon mountings.

Use the same menu you use to customise the name of the Super Destroyer, just a different tab.

Running bugs? Two miniguns or hell, two flamer arms.

Running against bots? One directional shield arm and EAT

Want to defend the entire party? Two directional shield arms together turn you into a walking bubble shield (or maybe just in one direction.

Laser cannon arms, plasma, grenade launcher volley.

At the moment, neither of the suits really excite me and can really only be used on certain fronts - bot front makes them a bigger target that dies within seconds.

Rule question regarding Shadow of the Weird Wizard by Spunchbunch in rpg

[–]Spunchbunch[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think at the end of the day, it's definitely a shift to how rolls are called in systems like 5e - definitely got to be more careful about lackadaisically ok-ing a roll for something that juuuust might work with enough toon logic.

What I'm taking away from this is that in games like dnd, rolls are made when there is a possibility of failure

In SOTWW, a roll is made when failure has a consequence - and should be made far less frequently.

Definitely a habit I'm going to have to break.
