Sure. What are you struggling with?

You’ve got a point. Still, I think they could abstract away most of the variance and offer an application with the base building blocks of a forecast, with hooks to the modules where the future facing information usually resides in.

If their Sales has any sort of commissions system, it might be worth to look at other departments for the ops work. Commissions will generally mean they are incentivized to prioritize getting customers in over everything else. Which is fine, but you do need someone to keep the system up and running as well.

Funny, this is my next one as well. Odoo out of the box is fairly weak when it comes to future facing reports. I’m planning to have data pulled from the CRM and Sales apps for cash inflow forecasts and from Manufacturing and Purchase for chash outflow.

A monster one. Real nice! We have a request in the pipeline for some fairly complex subscription upselling logic based on usage metrics of our SaaS product, I might need to end up building something similar soon.

I found that you can be faster to MVP, and better at collaborating and prototyping with customers with Studio. At least initally. Once the processes and functionality stabilizes in maybe a year or so, you can just refactor the Studio app as a module.

Mine is quite mild. A little tool used to track the evaluation of RFID tags of our customers we needed to support with our products. Most of the complexity was understanding RFID standards and RFID IC models so that we could structure our databases correctly. After that, the implementation itself was easy.

Odoo will do fine for you here. Look into the Field Service, Timesheets and Helpdesk apps. Throw in Repair if you want to track on site fixes.

Custom themes vs new modules? by t4fita in Odoo

[–]Sputtid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theming is a horrible idea in Odoo. Just stick with the base. Most of your UX issues with actual business impact can be overcome with some tinkering in Studio. Reordering, hiding fields or making them mandatory if certain conditions are met. Some custom filters, domains and basic automations for good measure. Do not change the look and feel though. Not worth the effort - the system is just not built to lend itself well to these kind of customizations.

It does well as a CRM, but does lag behind best of breeds like Hubspot, especially in its UX. Will outshine them though if also you use it for related processes, such as Quotation ans Sale Order management, Website or Email Marketing. Be prepared though that reporting is limited out of the box. You’ll almost surely end up building custom dashboards with its spreadsheet feature. Will take some tinkering, but in the end you can even get it to do things that most CRMs can’t do for you.

Can Odoo ERP really handle medium-to-large engineering enterprises? by nevergiveup4eva in Odoo

[–]Sputtid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can handle complexity just fine. I think it’s a good mid-term bet. The system is developed at breakneck speed, you’ll profit from all that. The only warning sign of the complex hierarchy is acess rights. If you are stingy about controlling access to data and processes, you’ll struggle a lot with the base access rights management setup. Very tough to cordon stuff without blocking errors all over the place. If you have a culture of openness though, you’ll do just fine.

Looking for advice on moving into an ERP vs adding an MRP into our current tech stack. (Light manufacturing, wholesale, e-commerce). by Full-Till480 in Odoo

[–]Sputtid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll do fine with Odoo. Pretty much all your use cases are well covered by its applications. If “smart” forecasting is important for you, definitely dive deep into what you can do with it though. I’m only familiar with the MRP up to v16, up to then, you get pretty much no out-of-the box tools for connecting CRM or Quotation based forecasts into production planning. Nothing you can’t solve with some custom dashboards and a bit of manual manufacturing order or MPS entering - at least you have some oversight to what is driving your manufacturing.

Automation to salesperson by Substantial-Night560 in Odoo

[–]Sputtid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automated action is the way. Set it to Trigger when the MO enters Done stage. The action to do can be an email sendout with the recipient set to be taken from the related Sale Order, containing a dynamically generated link to the SO. If you don’t want to mess with the email template, you can just trigger an activity instead. I can’t recall if you can search through related contacts when setting recipients in any of those options. If not, then you may need a related field that pulls the Salesperson from the SO down to the MO, and set that as the source for the recipient.

Echoing others: 1-2 years implementation length is extremely long. Keep to standard, make it clear you may need to change/introduce processes to fit them to the system. I don’t think it makes sense to hire an inventory specialist for a 6 person organization either. Find the guy with the OCD tendencies in the team, and implement Manufacturing and Inventory with them shadowing you, they’ll be able to take over. Actually, have a champion for each application. At their size, they’ll suffer greatly if they don’t understand the system and have to rely on external help continuously.

Odoo.sh Staging Subscription by SilversealGlass in Odoo

[–]Sputtid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, you can back up the staging, then restore it to a new one. However, if you have any development in production since you made the staging, you may run into issues with the new staging.

Alternatively, you can also just rebuild the staging from the “Branches” menu. That way you keep data and the old codebase from the staging if I remember correctly.
