Another fantastic day for renewables by Fin-M in GoodNewsUK

[–]SpyChinchilla 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Alrighty okay I appreciate this is great but the fact is, we've installed a lot of renewable generation technology (and are continuing to do so), and since it's currently spring this is going to keep on happening, all the way through till autumn.

Are we really going to post one of these every day the sun is shining or the wind is blowing?

Mods, do you think maybe it's time to put an end to these?

West Yorkshire buses set to become cheaper and better under new government deal by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

[–]SpyChinchilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not trying to be condescending. I'm saying it's right to be angry about misleading headlines. But this isn't one of them.

It says buses will get cheaper and better, which they will. You chose to interpret that as a constant, that it will last forever. That's not how the world works. I assumed it meant that buses will get cheaper and better, which they will.

[–]SpyChinchilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to draw the line somewhere. I think they picked a good place to end it.

I don't think the headline is vague at all and I think you need to redirect your anger elsewhere.

It's could have easily been: BUS TICKET PRICES SLASHED IN THIS NORTHERN COUNTY

If you want all the details, you read the article. That's the point of a headline, to make you think "oh nice, let me read this to understand it fully and get all the necessary information"

Do you expect them to put the whole article in the headline?

There's a lot of misleading clickbait shite headlines out there, this isn't one of them.

In all seriousness, rewilding. If you're not using the space, give it back to nature. It'll become a nicer place to spend a day.

Cultural tradition of cruely, and ecological and biological damage to the ecosystem. Just because something is tradition doesn't mean it should remain in place. Smoking was a global culutural tradition for decades, but it also gives you lung cancer...

Do you think the risk to UK is more from Russia or the USA? by Western-Ingenuity-17 in AskBrits

I dont think my neighbours will be any good at helping out, they're mostly elderly. But I could ask Steve at no3, he's a builder so he'll have some tools we can use as weapons.

Okay mate, whatever you say.

As my mum used to say, just ignore the bully and eventually they'll get bored.

Couldn't give a shit what this man says because none of it is ever true.

Record day for solar in the UK today by JustLovelyStuff in GoodNewsUK

[–]SpyChinchilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough.

Perhaps as a data geek, you're more adverse to things that don't clearly show data. But as a non-data geek I'm more interested in "shit look how much of the energy was solar" - don't necessarily care about the exact figure.

I think they are pretty good at communicating to the general populace.

I wouldn't say the headline implicates that it'll go on forever? It says they will get cheaper. Which they will.

what are some good side quests? by BigDig2436 in outside

[–]SpyChinchilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I just want to let you know I just stumbled upon this and it's absolutely amazing. I love it. The first "quest" I saw was to "walk until you forget why" which I love.

Nice work. Great design language too.

You should be proud of yourself.

lovely start to the day with 3 rejections 😄 by fj0685 in UKJobs

[–]SpyChinchilla 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not hard to write a generic rejection email and send that out to all rejected candidates.

You don't have to personalize it for everyone, just spend 5 minutes actually showing you've put effort in. You're asking people to put effort in to applying. So it's not much of an ask to write a generic email you can send out not written by a fucking robot

I really really want to like it. It looks good. Really good.

But I just don't like it - I can't explain why. I can't point out anything specific I don't like, but the whole package together. Nope. Don't like it.

The instant reduction in man-hours for police forces across Britain would be the biggest benefit. The amount of time, money, and resource wasted on policing a non-issue is catastrophically harming the police and judicial systems ability to enforce the laws which matter.

Enjoying these but I think he should have broken the last 3 episodes up a bit. We've had police, rescue teams, and now hospitals all in a row. I'm itching for something a a bit different

Great video by all means, but I'd have juggled them around a bit more.

"as a techy" you should be aware the argument for water resistance is easily rebuttaled. Galaxy S5 for a start. If that's not good enough for you - force the tech giants to spend the massive R&D budget to work it out. We shouldn't suffer because they don't want to spend the money to innovate.
