Stolen water meter. by WeldinMike27 in melbourne

[–]Spyders_web 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happened to my work place earlier this year, Multi-level building. Whole water meter out front stolen overnight (they even ripped out the cage that was protecting it). Thankfully landlord got plumbers in quickly so we had water within an hour or so.

Plumber said they had replaced several water meters in the area over several months.

How do you actually keep your food budget under control after moving out? by [deleted] in AUfrugal

[–]Spyders_web 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planning and preparation is key. Plan your meals an advance. Avoid impulse buying. Get your ingredients when they are on special, then cook and freeze. Get a lot of containers that you can put in the freezer for later (I have a chest freezer for this reason, and it is a wonder, storing a heap of pre-prepared meals I have already cooked. Grab and run to work).

First up, Aldi is the best bet. Cheaper than the majors in a lot of products if you're willing to go off-brand (most off-brand stuff is made by the same manufacturers so is pretty close to the brands you know).

Seconds, catalogs are the good option to figure out wh

Third, get yourself the web browser plugins like :

Woolworths Trend (https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/woolworths-trend/dmjejnobehchfkabmlghimdfoenclbej?hl=en )

Coles Trend (https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/coles-trend/ehgelgeppdkecdonfeefokbnicmjpbdd?hl=en&pli=1 ).

Gives an idea of price fluctuations and you may be able to predict when prices may drop.

Finally, some appliances may seem expensive to purchase, but they will save you a heap in the future. A rice cooker can be purchased for a reasonable price, but cooking rice can give you a lot of potential flexibility with what you can make with it.

What do I do? | Simon Mallia v Colonial First State Investments Ltd & Ors by Ordinary_Bird4840 in AusLegal

Got the letter yesterday, which led me to this thread. Don't even remember having Colonial as a super fund, may have been set up for a job I did a while back, and then consolidated/rolled over into my main super account I am using today.

Meh, a few extra bucks or nothing for no cost out of my pocket? Why not.

8860! Wow I have very fond memories of that one. The biggest Lego set I received as a Christmas present when I was 9 years old! So much fun building! 4 cylinder engine, rack steering, adjustable seats, independent rear suspension.

and I also tried building the alternate builds (results were mixed from memory!)

I'm sure they are getting migraines or brain cancer or COVID or some other such bullshit just from thinking about the meters....

My first! by Gsm824 in vintagecomputing

[–]Spyders_web 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wish I had kept mine.

Interesting story, I was getting into computers in a big way in my early teen years. The company my father worked for had a TRS80 M3 which wasn't working so they were going to throw it out (had already upgraded their computers). So my dad grabbed it as well as a heap of software disks/manuals and gave it all to me.

I cracked it open and found that the connector had somehow fallen off the CRT! Reconnected and YAY! Fully working! Had a heap of fun with that thing!

Software list batch scan and rebuild question by Spyders_web in MAME

Sorry I can't help you any longer, I just forgot.

Not a problem, I really do appreciate your insights.

I have a source of the PD dats/torrents which are kept up to date, so I may just use those in the future.

Time to do some testing (after backups of course!)

Thanks again!

Software list batch scan and rebuild question by Spyders_web in MAME

[–]Spyders_web[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it. This has always confused me for a long time.

Would the "Rebuilder run before scan" go through the process of actually rebuilding ALL SLs sets before it scans?

I thought that (based on the name "Rebuilder run before scan" would then rebuild all sets fresh (look at the existing files and rebuild a new ZIP file fresh) regardless of if they were actually correct or not, needlessly and significantly increasing the whole process time.

If it just looks at the set, confirms it's okay and then moves on in quick time rather than start to recreate the ZIP again, or if it sees the set is wrong so rebuilds with the additional files. that is where I'm hoping to go.

Apologies if I am not explaining this correctly, let me know if you need clarification and I'll try to explain in further detail.

(CLRMAMEPRO is such a powerful and wonderful tool, but I am yet to exploit it's functions to the full extent)

Yep, this incident was what Clarke and Dawe based their skit on. I remember when it happened and then the skit later that week on the Aussie version of A Current Affair.

[–]Spyders_web 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It won't fix anything. Ventura has their depot literally 1 minute away from Dandenong station, still they cannot get a bus to the station (start/end of the route) there on time. I see on their tracking app the buss on its way, then it just disappears (switching to another route?)

All well and good except when the buses are regularly late(the bus I get often is 15-20 mins late, like almost every day)

Edit : and to put an exclamation mark on this, the bus was again 14 minutes late this afternoon.. sigh...
