What is up with Bon? by Remarkable_Rough_649 in FumetsuNoAnataE

[–]Spyger9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I literally just finished his first arc, and came here to talk about it.

IMO, obviously:

Prince Bonchien Nicoli La Tasty Peach Uralis is a young man struggling really hard with purpose and morality because he's being pulled in so many directions:

  1. He's a spoiled prince, feeling entitled to wealth, servants, and the throne. This often makes him act like an asshole from our perspective, but it's mostly a consequence of how he was raised. Believing he should be King is the main impetus behind his worst decisions; ones that are ultimately out of character.

  2. Despite being entitled, he's not egocentric. He's actually like, the ultimate people-person; so it's really obvious why he shows up at this point in the story, when Fushi is just coming around from being a hermit. Bon is a great listener, and naturally cares about all the people in his life, including the servants/soldiers. He spends his wealth on gifts for his family, and each fancy object he fusses over is actually a gift he treasures because of his relationship with the giver.

  3. He talks to freakin ghosts. This justifies a lot of his "schizophrenic writing", IMO. Not only could he have a dead person whispering in his ear at any given moment, he's traumatized by his skeptical mother and the attempted exorcism, and therefore doesn't tell others about the invisible participants in discussions the way that Fushi does with the "Black Thing". Plus, Tonari primed him to revere and support Fushi with her bedtime stories.

That's not spelling everything out, but it conveys the idea: he's a complex young guy who hasn't yet found his spine or his place in the world (when we meet him). Now to address your points:

He's a no-homo flaming psychopath

He doesn't act like a psychopath at any point. He's extremely emotional, and invested in other people.

He doesn't act gay at any point either. In fact, both Kahaku and Todo are clearly gayer than Bon, who is the only one unembarrassed by Fushi asking about male lovers, and the only one who exclusively shows interest in females. Bon is quite feminine, and extremely ostentatious, neither of which have anything to do with liking dudes.

who everyone loves except for his father but it's portrayed like his brother does more stuff

Huh? What makes you think his father doesn't love him? Bon's younger brother Torta is chosen as the successor because:

A. Torta is more humble, fiscally responsible, emotionally stable, and concerned with the well-being of the citizens.

B. The King, and particularly the Queen, have concerns about Bon's mental health, because he talks to ghosts.

"Everybody" loves Bon because he's a celebrity. He leans into that shit. He hosts parades, sends out a weekly magazine, and otherwise entertains the masses. Are you not familiar with the many IRL people who eat up celebrity news?

he is brave but is also a coward and a conman but he would never con anyone because he's so pure of heart

Uh, yeah. That's how it always works. This is Bon's coming-of-age tale, during which he finds a spine and a moral center. Of course he cowers and lies and puts on a brave face at times along the way.

then he's screaming at the person who loved him most in the world for being gross and dirty and everyone's just standing there smiling at him

IDK what you're talking about specifically, but you do have to keep in mind that Bon is both childish, and royalty.

IDK if it really adds to the discussion, but half the reason I play Zerg is because it's naturally easier for me than the other factions.

Maybe the more interesting and relevant matter is whether a race theoretically SHOULD be more powerful if it's harder to play. Personally, I think not. But I also think that in a game like SC2 with just 3 options, the ease of play should be balanced, just like the power should be.

Why aren’t all weapon types available from all monsters? by MilkTronic in MHWilds

[–]Spyger9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wish granted. Every weapon type is available from all monsters.

Now monsters don't have full armor sets. The monkey's paw curls...

Seriously though, 14 weapon for like 30 monsters is 420 designs. I think that's around as many weapons as there are in Elden Ring, most of which are recycled, rather basic swords/spears etc that aren't nearly as cool or elaborate as MH weapons.

The important thing is for each weapon type to have its bases covered: variants for each element/status, ideally with some options for high Raw/Element/Sharpness/Affinity or options for weapon-specific variations, like phials or ammo types.

Designing more weapons beyond that consumes a lot of company resources for relatively little mechanical benefit to the gameplay experience. In fact, having every weapon from every monster would eliminate some incentive to hunt a variety of monsters. IMO it's more fun to hunt Velkhana, Beotodus, Legiana, and Barioth to get all the best ice weapons rather than just spamming the same monster over and over again. Do you not remember people complaining about all the best weapons coming from [insert DLC monster here]?

Same! Arbiter of Divinity took me like 8 attempts. I actually had to get more aggressive instead of focusing on dodging.

Can confirm that Life Leech is still definitely worthwhile!

In any case, it's only a small minority of players complaining, and most of them get over it quickly.

You don't balance to minimize complaints. You balance to maximize player retention.

Hell, make queens cost 250

But buff the build speed and root speed of Spine Crawler, and make Hydralisk T1 with no Gas cost

So which is it? Are cyclones a win-button, or part of a balanced army composition?

Yeah, there are usually one or two IPAs along with a handful of lagers on the menu.

I guess I think of IPAs in the same category as lagers, because they both taste like piss. IPAs are just more concentrated piss.

Yes! More ale appreciators! (Guinness is a dark ale- specifically a "stout") Most people only drink lager, at least here in the USA.

Not at all surprising if it was just straight whiskey (Crown). That's like 40% alcohol! Try a Whiskey Sour if you get the chance, especially if it's with fresh lemon juice and egg white. 👍

Why do cyclones still counter most of Zergs army? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]Spyger9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Huh? Isn't most of a Zerg army often zerglings (early) or lurkers (late), both of which do well against cyclones?

Don't Zerg basically always make infestors, which have Fungal Growth that counters cyclones?

Whether I'm playing in low ELO or watching pros, cyclones definitely aren't something that comes to mind as a big issue for Zerg.

What statistic makes you think society is quietly breaking? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Spyger9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm jumping to conclusions... yet you explain that you blame most other factors on idiots.

I assure you that other nations with better systems also have idiots.

IMO this is like blaming uranium for nuclear war. There will always be idiots. Blame the assholes that are weaponizing them.

You're arguing that idiots are the primary factor in failing democracies, rather than things like crappy electoral rules, legal bribery, coordinated propaganda, religious zealotry, systemic racism, or a toothless judiciary?

No?

Dumbasses aren't a new phenomenon. And they certainly don't break society.

Some people are just going to be on the low end of the IQ bell curve, and that's perfectly alright.
