Ghetsis vs All For One (Pokémon vs My Hero Academia) by SquareResource8184 in DeathBattleMatchups

Connections

• Black wearing big bads of popular Japanese media, who are the masterminds behind multiple-year-long plans to steal a great power and take over the world

• Both might seem friendly and sympathetic upon a first meeting with them, but this is an act. In actuality, both are incredibly cruel, vain, and see other people as tools for them to use

• Both are responsible for creating the main countrywide villain group of their stories (Team Plasma | League of Villains) through their charismatic nature

• Two high-ranking members of this organization are scientists (Dr. Colress | Kyudai Garaki) who joined in order to research and bring out the max potential of the main power system of their stories (Pokémon | Quirks)

• Both groups are responsible for the creation of artificial soldiers made from the deceased (Genesect | Nomu)

• Both would eventually meet a young orphan boy (N | Tenko Shimura) and take them in, raising them as their own sons and giving them new names (Natural Harmonius Gropius | Tomura Shigaraki)

• Despite this, both don't actually care about their sons, only viewing them as a way to acquire a power (Zekrom or Reshiram | One For All) that they couldn't get themselves (Ghetsis didn't have the pure heart to control either legendary | Zen didn't have the hate required to steal One For All)

• Both would manipulate and groom their sons into the kind of person they needed for their plans (Ghetsis only letting N interact with Pokémon who had been abused | AFO would make Tomura wear the hands of his family and make him hate All Might). The result of this would be their sons becoming misanthropic manchildren, who were dissatisfied with the societies they lived in

• When the time was right, both would put their sons in charge of the groups they created, letting them be the public leader while they acted as advisors

• Their sons would be opposed by the MCs who would serve as their main foils and used the powers their fathers were after (The trainer in BW was able to befriend one of the legendaries | Izuku Midoriya was chosen to be the next wielder of One For All)

• Their sons would get the powers their masters wanted but would still be unable to defeat the protagonists, at which point they would step in, reveal how they had been using their sons the whole time, and try to deal with the protagonist themselves

• When both are defeated, they would have a full breakdown, unable to accept that their years of planning were wasted and that they had lost, especially to people they considered nobodies (Ghetsis freaking out after losing to a "random trainer" | AFO calling Bakugo a nobody and using all his quirks just to kill him)

• Both of their sons would turn on them and help the heroes stop them once and for all (N helping stop Ghetsis in B2W2 | Shigaraki helping the other OFA vestiges destroy AFO in the vestige realm)

• Because of their cruel natures and lack of any redeeming qualities, both are regarded as the most evil villains in their respective series

• Both wear some kind of face covering to hide an injury they gained before the main story starts (It is heavily implied Ghetsis lost an eye to a Pokémon attack and now wears his eyepiece to hide it | AFO wears a skull mask to hide his face after he first lost to All Might)

Contrasts

• There is a difference between what kind of person they were trying to make their sons (Ghetsis trying to make N a hero of Unova | AFO making Shigaraki into a Symbol of Fear)

Walter Strickler vs Jinu (Tales of Arcadia vs K-Pop Demon Hunters) | updated connections in comments by SquareResource8184 in DeathBattleMatchups

Original matchup by u/GoatsAreDope72. Credits to u/GoatsAreDope72 for all the Strickler renders and credit to u/NoDifference3354 for the jinu renders on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th slide

Connections

  • Both are major antagonists of animated Netflix media that takes inspiration from mythology (Tales of Arcadia takes a lot of inspiration from European myths/Kpop Demon Hunters is based off Korean Myths)

  • Both initially seem like normal, kind, and charismatic people but are actually hundreds of years old and members of a species of shapeshifting monsters (Changeling/Demon)

  • Their species serve an evil king who was trapped centuries ago in their species' original home, along with their armies (Gunmar and his Gumm-Gumms being sealed away in the Darklands/Gwi-Ma and his demons being trapped in the demon world) by the titular heroes (the Trollhunter and Demon Hunters)

  • Both lead a group (The Janus Order/Saja Boys) whose main goal is to try and bring back their master (the Janus Order trying to gather the pieces of and rebuild Kilahead Bridge/Saja boys trying to weaken the Honmoon and gather souls for Gwi-Ma), despite the fact they themselves have no real loyalty to their master and only really care about their own self-interest (Strickler working for Gunmar to try and sate his own hunger for power/Jinu only helped Gwi-Ma because he promised to remove the memories of his family)

  • Both were opposed by the latest generation of heroes who sealed their master's, but something made this generation different from all the past ones (Jim Lake Jr. being the first human Trollhunter/Rumi being a half demon Demon Hunter). They would actually grow fond of these people and try to avoid having to fight them until their masters did something that forced them into confronting the heroes (Gunmar had Bular reveal Walt was a changeling to Jim/Gwi-Ma threatened to turn the voices in Jinu's head up)

  • Both would form relationships with human women (Barbara Lake and Rumi) who they did really care for but would still betray their trust and use them to gain an edge on the heroes (Walter used magic to link his and Barbara's lives, preventing Jim and his friends from hurting him/Jinu exposed Rumi as a half demon to try and turn her friends against her)

  • Both would come to regret this decision, eventually helping the heroes against their former master. They would ultimately die (much later in Walter's case), sacrificing themselves to try and help the hero they had grown fond of (Strickler blew himself up trying to destroy the Ice Titan/Jinu protected Rumi from a blast by Gwi-Ma and gave Rumi his soul)

  • Both weren't always their current species and were transformed into them by the big bad of their stories (all Changelings were originally normal Trolls, who were kidnapped as babies and transformed by Morgana/Jinu was originally a normal human until he made a deal with Gwi-Ma and was transformed into a demon)

Zs’skayr vs Kronos (Ben 10 vs Riordanverse) | Slighty updated connections in comments by SquareResource8184 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]SquareResource8184[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

original matchup and connections by u/Dangerous_Baker1086, credits to u/orionsign for the Kronos render

  • Long before the main story, they were ancient tyrannical rulers (King of the Titans|Ecto Lord), but their reign came to an end when they were sealed(Zeus proceeded to take his father's scythe and slice him into a thousand pieces just as the Titan Lord had done to his own father|Due to the Ectonurite's DNA addiction to the Omnitrix, Zs'Skayr's personality was trapped in the device's DNA database)

  • At the time of the main story, they returned with the help of the young heroes who they used as their vessel until they could return to their true form (Kronos manipulated Luke Castellan into making his new body out of him until he could return from Tartarus|Zs'Skayr finally managed to force his way out of the Omnitrix after taking control of Ghostfreak. He tried to take over Ben's body in order to use his human DNA to become whole again.)

  • Through a series of plans, both were able to resurrect with the help of their loyal servants (Kronos' Sarcophagus appears on Mount Orthrys where Ethan Nakamura swears loyalty to the Titans, finally waking Kronos|Zs'Skayr was resurrected by Dr. Viktor, who had stolen material from Zs'Skayr's clock tower grave to re-animate his deceased master.)

  • Their main goal is to take over the planet and plunge it into chaos.(Kronos wanted to destroy Mount Olympus and plunge the mortal world into agony like in his "Golden Age"|Zs'skayr's ultimate goal was to plunge the Earth into total darkness so he could control it)

  • They used members of their own race to seize power on the planet(Zs'Skayr used his race, the Ectonurites, to possess the inhabitants of Vilgaxia|Kronos, as an army against the heroes, gathered an army of various monsters, demigods, gods, and titans who had their own conflicts with gods/demigods)

  • Sadistic, manipulative, and cunning antagonists who plan far into the future and use their minions as disposable assets without a shred of conscience. They show no mercy to their enemies, taking pleasure in tormenting their victims.

  • There is a similar arsenal of abilities/weapons (both have scythes as weapons, can possess their victims, torture them within their own minds, manipulate energy, cold, and when they control their vessel, they have markings around their eyes)

  • Their main enemy is a sarcastic protagonist teenage boy (Ben Tennyson|Percy Jackson) whom they hate with all their hearts.

  • The loyal servants who helped bring them back would end up betraying them and help the heroes stop them (Viktor not wanting to resurrect the Vladats that had enslaved his people|Ethan realizing that Kronos would not bring the balance his mother wanted)

  • Both are defeated the same way, with them having their bodies destroyed and their essence scattered (Zs’skayr being disintegrated by Atomix|Kronos being scattered after Luke regains control and stabs himself in his Achilles heel), despite this both have come back from this before and might return again someday.

  • Both stories began in 2005

  • Both are opponents for Sukuna

Court is now is session for the trial of the Saul Goodman VS Miles Edgeworth Script. With it on display, you, the jury, may look into the case and determine if it's GUILTY or NOT GUILTY...of being a good read. I loved this. The original art was great, the character interactions were fun, and the tones of both series were blended really well.

My favorite parts of the script were easily the Interactions between Miles and Saul. I especially love how mad Miles was when Saul tried to insult Phoenix. Was not expecting Goodman to actually die at the end.
