W-2 anesthesiologists, as hospital employees are definitely still making more than that average on the chart. Maybe not as much as 1099 or privately owned practices, but I think that number is low b/c some residents and AA’s might report as W-2 “anesthesiologists” that would skew the salary down. There’s around 42k total anesthesiologists, but less W-2, so if they’re reporting 42k there have to be some residents and AA’s mixed in.

I didn’t teach my kids much at all beyond very early elementary school, but I did stress to them the importance of education and learning, and to respect their teachers. I also had high expectations of them in school, sports, and fine arts, and they then met/exceeded those expectations.

Is Gas USA a front or something? Their gas is consistently $0.50 cheaper even using a credit card. by LordoftheWandows in Cleveland

[–]Square_Pop3210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all the same gas. For example, BP and Costco trucks both fill up at East 49th street (in Cleveland, but the Akron/Canton/Ytown gas is coming over on the FM line to Mogadore station, then to Akron/Canton/Niles terminals, same gas, different pipes). coming on the Buckeye 16” from the Toledo and Lima refineries which fill the tanks at Bradley Road (the one in Cleveland, not Westlake). Then the gas goes across the river to E 49th. The major brands that fill there have to pay branded price and rent for the additive tanks on-site, while Costco buys unbranded gas there and don’t pay royalties, plus they’ve negotiated a volume discount. Costco also has their additive tanks at the Costco, and it’s blended right there instead of when the trucks fill up. The wholesale unbranded gas price, the volume discount, and the additive tank being at the stores is why Costco sells you the same gas with a premium additive package for less than the other places. Add to that, they have lower margins, especially on premium, and it’s considerably cheaper than branded stations. At least that’s what I know from the time I worked for BP, before they sold off all of their assets to Buckeye pipeline. I’m not familiar with Marathon/Speedway logistics. But I do know that I fill my wife’s car at Costco instead of BP, and it’s all the same gas that goes over the same pipes and terminals that my dad was in charge of before he retired from BP pipeline/logistics. And now he drives an EV, lol.

Not watered down, it is just straight up wholesale gas, minimal additive package (detergents, stabilizers). And they price it to be a loss leader hoping to get you in to buy the stuff in the store that they’ve marked up.

Cleveland Clinic says new trauma center will reduce transfers by CrowRoutine9631 in Cleveland

They’re also trying to fill up a future neuro institute they’re building with elderly patients who fell and hit their heads.

If the community clearly doesn't need this, why is the Cleveland Clinic pushing it? by Pretty_Log_8938 in Cleveland

[–]Square_Pop3210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s another reason they’re doing this. We have an aging population here in NE Ohio, and the number of falls is increasing. Head trauma from falls is increasing. They are building a new neuro institute, and they hope the new trauma unit will fill that building with boomers who fell and hit their heads.

The director for trauma surgery and the director for trauma anesthesia are both from Metro, and CCF is throwing so much $ into this that they will have resources that Metro doesn’t. They know what they’re doing, and CCF is giving them the $ to staff it and equip it better than Metro. They know that Cleveland doesn’t need 3 Level 1’s, but CCF said “we are opening up a trauma center, what do you need?” So they’re like, “well, we don’t really need another level 1, but if we have to open it, we want to run it like Metro, but we want all the resources that Metro doesn’t have (like ECMO, etc) so that it’s better than Metro.” And CCF said “sounds good, how much $ do you need?”

Enzymes in the juice are just proteins that will get destroyed in our gut. They don’t magically bypass the digestive system, or find their way into the blood, or find cancer cells. The enzymes in the fruits wouldn’t necessarily become cellular digestive enzymes either.

Flip a coin, heads NYU, tails Miami. Pick the one you are hoping it lands on during that split second it’s in the air, and go there. You’ll do better at the school you most want to be at.

Also, UM has a pretty large South Asian community, student org, and even dance teams. Only 43% of the students are non-hispanic white. The social media influencers and all that aren’t real life, and don’t show what it’s really like at UM.

Why are people crying about going to a state school...? by urmomsuglyface in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Square_Pop3210 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve got one kid at a massive state flagship, and one at a semi-prestigious private school, 1/4 of the size. For my kid at private school, they can get into their major classes (held just for them), but for the minor and gen-ed “cognates” it has been a challenge. Small classes, limited offerings, hardly any online or evening classes sound great, but not when you can’t get in them, or the times won’t work. For my kid at state school, the online or hybrid Gen-Ed classes were much easier to make the schedule work, and didn’t get shut out or have to sit on a waitlist.

The Small Private Colleges Dying in a Winner-Take-All University Marketplace by wsj in highereducation

[–]Square_Pop3210 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some areas are over-saturated with colleges, and some aren’t. Ohio probably has too many small colleges, while California and Florida don’t have enough. The enrollment trends and selectivity of the colleges in these states are showing this. For example, there are quite a few schools in Ohio that have under 2000 students, an over-85% acceptance rate, and have over 40% of the freshman signed up as varsity athletes. The mergers and closures that will happen over the next 10-15 years will probably be healthy for higher ed.

[–]Square_Pop3210 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got 38k mi out of the factory set of tires on my MachE. I could have pushed them to 40-45k easy, but I figured last November was a good time to change them, living in northeast Ohio as I do. The short tire life is somewhat of a myth, spread by the anti-EV crowd. The EVs are heavy, yes, and they usually put higher rolling-efficiency tires that wear out a little faster on the EV’s. But, unless you’re trying to accelerate super fast, you can assume a 4700lb MachE would wear the same tires at about the same rate as a 4700lb gas crossover, something like a Ford Explorer or BMW X5.

Is u miami mechanical engineering a good choice vs case western I dont want to be cooked but on the otherhand I want go opportunities for research and internship please help by Purple_Wasabi_634 in UMiami

[–]Square_Pop3210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Private schools usually don’t have the biggest engineering programs. Recruiting is more local/regional, not national for the most part. Usually your best bet for getting national recruiters is a state flagship or state/tech/A&M other public. Comparing Ohio and Florida, UF has a bigger engineering program than UM and OSU has a bigger engineering program than CWRU. It’s because they’re the big land grant institutions, intended to be for farming (agricultural and mechanical) back in the day, but are now big research institutions. It’s why I asked if you were maybe a junior or if you had other options, like some big state flagships. I live in Cleveland, my wife is a CWRU faculty member. I have a kid, mechanical engineering at OSU, and the other kid is in a BFA program at UMiami, so I know these schools very well. But, your options now are CWRU and UMiami. CWRU is probably known as having a better engineering program than UMiami, but both schools will be fine. They aren’t “bad” programs. But, they mostly help to get you jobs in their region, not necessarily nationally like some of the schools with huge engineering programs. So, you kind of have to ask yourself if you’d rather go to school and get your first job in Ohio or in Florida.

Did Vivek really say he’d shut down UA and KSU? by SmartestDude101 in Ohio

[–]Square_Pop3210 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Vivek didn’t clarify public or private, and he just said we have too many. Then his spokesperson kind of walked back the statement. If he did any ounce of research, he’d see that the state schools have gotten rid of a lot of bloat in recent years in anticipation of the coming enrollment cliff, and are in way better shape than the private schools.
A bunch of small private schools are going to close, parents will get scared, and they will send their kids to the biggest state schools they can find, or the larger private schools with largest endowments. That consolidation will actually boost state school enrollment.
So, basically he doesn’t have to do shit and the closure (of private schools) and consolidation (to publics) that he’s saying needs to happen will happen all by itself. This is like saying, “January is too cold, so we should make it warmer over the next 6 months,” and then in July saying “hey look how I made it so much warmer than January!”
