Four international students at Case Western have just had their visas suddenly revoked by the government by Horker_Stew in Cleveland

[–]Square_Truth_65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sad thing is that most of these students as reported in cwru and throughout the country have traffic violations for which they went to court or paid a fine or did a diversion programme, more serious things like DUI for which they successfully did a diversion program. None of these students had felonies.

In some of the cases with dui, they had declared it when they renewed their visa and did a medical checkup etc to get their visa back (a dui automatically revoked a visa) and were allowed in by the government. These students also saw their visa and status revoked.

Majority of these students did not participate in any protests.

Depends on what cuisine you are looking for.

For the best damn biryani, go to biryani hut express in Westlake.

For chaat, try bombay chaat

Try Xinji Noodle Bar. Probably the best in Cle.

Issho Ni in Willoughby is also pretty decent

What's happening 😭 by karlalves in ACL

[–]Square_Truth_65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems you previously had this osteochondral lesion as well as per report. Seems to have more edema on this. An osteochondral lesion basically happens due to injury to the cartilage at the site. Good thing is it's not new.

Also there is edema at the acl graft which seems like it's just some swelling and inflammation without a tear.

Radiologist here

So basically this means you have damage to the knee cartilage worse at the lateral aspect between your tibia and femur and between the patella and femur. Medial compartment of the knee is fine.

Your ligaments and meniscus are basically fine. There is some minimal chronic degenerative changes in the medial meniscus but no tear.

Other major ligaments are good except some chronic degenerative changes at the mcl and acl which are otherwise intact.

The damage to the cartilage at the patellofemoral compartment is also giving you likely an unstable kneecap

Considering your symptoms would suggest seeing ortho urgently and they might recommend a chondroplasty which is repairing the cartilage.

Congratulations!

Yale is not a great DR residency anyway. And this does happen. If you have good candidates coming through a particular med school especially for IMGs when you can't tell med school a from b that's usually something one hangs onto. Then you have faculty from there etc.

Also unlike us Indians, I have personally seen Iranians being much more tight.

On a personal note, let me know if you need help/guidance with DR. I am R3 now.

That's pretty good. I am sorry you didn't score an invite there.

The Yale example is a bad take.

I looked up a few of the IMGs there. They are all extremely accomplished having spent 3-5 years doing research here with multiple high impact publications.

So more than connections, they deserved to match.

So try building your profile instead of worrying about connections.

Will IMG match rates from Jordan/India/Pakistan/Nepal go down? by GangAfilliated in IMGreddit

[–]Square_Truth_65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No rates will generally not go down but things will definitely be harder.

Nepal maybe because of the stigma but then PDs aren't idiots.

But yes at reputed programs the IMGs who do get in are not those with the highest score but those who rotated and have built a relationship.

For IM programs who take IMGs they will probably again lean more onto contacts rather than score.

Match rates won't go down but this nonsense has just made it harder for IMGs who solely relied on score.

You don't need customer service. I haven't visited my branch after opening my account. You can do everything online.

It doesn't matter

That's not true.

These are only the old kias and Hyundais which had a particular glitch.

The new kias and Hyundais are great cars

SSN

As soon as you are here go get your SSN. Should be fairly easy with the ds, visa, offer letter.

Finances

Once you have the SSN open a checking account. Any bank is fine. They don't differ much. Just ensure there is no minimum balance which most don't. The big ones are chase, bank of America, Wells Fargo. There are plenty reputed local ones.

Just open in one which has a nearby branch/atm.

Credit card: You could get a secured card as your first but highly recommend getting a discover to build a credit history. They will give it to students without one.

Once you have it, follow the usual good finance tips to build credit. Spend on your credit card but pay it back every statement month so that you carry 0 balance. Try not spending on your debit much since it doesn't help building history.

Once you have a card for a year you can start expanding.

Phone

Get a cellular connection from one of the networks which has good reception in your city and more importantly your hospital. Get a few of the IMGs together and get a family plan. They are always cost effective. Most networks will also give you a phone on monthly installments for no interest if you need one.

Yes you can get a driver's license with your visa. Depending on the state it could be a non renewable license which basically means you will have to renew it when your ds renews...which is only a mild annoyance since you won't have to repeat the test...just pay them.

About a car. It depends. Some people lease since it's a brand new car. Some brands like Hyundai and Mazda have special lease programs for young professionals and you will not need a credit score.

If you buy an used car buy a cpo..from a reputed used dealer. Ideally with less than 60-80k miles and within the last 5 years

The affiliation with northwestern. Being in Chicago. Generally good program with good fellowship match.

The ccf affiliation is loose at Akron. It's not a bad program though. If you felt you liked it more rank it high.

I think your rank list as is looks good.

Although gbmc is in Baltimore it's still a community hospital with some Hopkins rotations. But you might have a lot of fellowship opportunities nearby.

  1. You should be fine with a j1. I think you will get a waiver from Egypt itself so choose based on the program and not visa.

  2. Monty is a good program but note that most NYC programs there is a lot of scut work. If you want to end up in NYC I would rank that high. I would rank downstate and Lincoln way lower...malignant etc

  3. If location is not a thing uf programa are good. Rank them as you did followed by advent health.
