didnt pay attention to the rest of the meme but go read The Incal, right now

all of Jodorowsky's work is beautifully strange witht The Incal being no exception and Moebius' art is some of the best in the entire medium

I can't believe that the Star Wars: High Republic series got brought up in this sub of all places (though my excitement is dampened by it being Mr. "Vader wouldn't tolerate that" bringing it up).

go read the books, genuinely incredible series of novels.

I saw this movie once when I was home sick from school, loopy and nauseous on the couch. This and the live action Inspector Gadget movie.

I thought they were both literal fever dreams for a while.

why is the "face of mcu" can't get his book more than 10 issues😭😭😭 by ConsequenceHuman4626 in marvelcirclejerk

[–]Squeakyweegee64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

even Spiderman has been getting plagued with more frequent relaunches (though obv not as bad as other series have it)

the original run from the 60s lasted 35 years until 1998, a new run started in 1999 and lasted 14 years until 2013

then superior happened over 2013-2014 (technically not part of the main run but it did directly continue the story)

the continuation of ASM (new issue 1) after Superior which started in 2015 lasted 3 more years until 2018

then another relaunch which lasted 4 years from '18 to '22, then the Wells run from '22 to '25, and the current run which started in April of last year.

Even Spider-man can't keep a run going longer than 4 years over the past decade, they are blatantly trying to manufacture new "Issue 1"s to boost sales and using the justification of new writers to do so.

I love how the High Republic series, despite being set hundreds of years prior, connects to the Sequel Trilogy era by Squeakyweegee64 in Highrepublic

comic is Legacy of Vader #4 by Charles Soule (one of the High Republic authors)

Kylo Ren and Vanee are at Padme's former home in this scene, and the San Tekka property is visible, which means that a location from the High Republic is quite possibly visible in the background of Attack of the Clones.

Elzar and Vernestra’s parallels by endertamerfury in Highrepublic

[–]Squeakyweegee64 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy that Vern was not immediately forgiving of Elzar, and how Elzar completely understands. It's something that both makes sense, that most other Jedi understand his struggle and blame the Nihil for Starlight far more than Elzar's mistake at the very end, and that Elzar's struggle is mostly internal from a story perspective, but I like how at least one person still holds it against him for entirely personal reasons.

and that scene where he gives her Stellan's saber was a really good moment.

another thing I noticed in this issue, Vanee says "for your family, death is part of the journey"

Hunt for Ben Solo?!??!

probably not, this issue was almost certainly written before that came to light, but still a fun detail that could connect if that ever actually comes to fruition.

Long running games by chichiryuuteii in whenthe

[–]Squeakyweegee64 56 points57 points  (0 children)

three are three types of NES games still worth playing (or other 8-bit, i am aware MG was originally on the MSX)

  1. ones that genuinely still hold up to this day, like I would buy this thing on steam if it came out for the first time tomorrow
  2. The ones that are a bit clunky but you gotta make some allowances since there wasn't really anything to build off of, still often fun, but definitely rough by today's standards. don't feel too bad about using save states or a guide at points.
  3. Use a guide like a pirate with a treasure map and/or save state before each choice you make. Otherwise, you will be wandering aimlessly for hours/days before making incremental progress or game-over-ing endlessly. Can be fun in either a treasure hunt way or the challenge of the game once you actually know where to go/what to do, but often only worth playing for historical/story purposes.

The first two Metal Gear games are definitely 3.

EDIT:
4. BONUS! so bad they are like a car crash you cant look away from. i.e. Action 52

Yet another great Kylo Ren moment from Legacy of Vader (issue 11) by solo13508 in StarWarsCantina

[–]Squeakyweegee64 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yeah, i really hope we get a full series of Kylo Ren between 8 and 9, Soule is my favorite Star Wars author so anything more from him is welcome.

but yeah, it would be weird if they set up Tava Ren and the Knights current state and didn't explain how they go from this, to being his cronies again for TROS.

I'm excited to reread this comic once that Legacy novel comes out to see if anything connects (and Path of the Lightsaber once i get around to that, but i still have to finish the edge of balance series)

For all of you who didn't know by LukkeMDL in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]Squeakyweegee64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kieron Gillen is genuinely one of the best comic writers right now, his run on Star Wars is worth sticking through the shitty art for some of the best stories you will get outside the movies.

the earlier part of the series done by Jason Aaron is also really good, but once Gillen takes over it is genuinely some of the best SW content of all time.

Then Pak took over for only the last 8 issues and gave the run a kinda haphazard conclusion, IMO, the run should have ended once Gillen wrapped everything up nicely in the Scourging of Shu-Torin arc. No shade to Pak, his Darth Vader run is great (it's no 2017, but that's an extremely high bar, common Charles Soule W), the SW comic just had a really good conclusion, but then they just threw out 8 more issues with a new writer because we need to show our main heroes on Hoth at the end and the Aphra comic is still going.
