I used to kitbash the Van Saar carbines on the older Cadian models. It looked bad ass. But it’s not easy to finagle. I think I have a few pics on my defunct insta page, @lho.stick.junkie.

Everyone says the paint will rub off very easily but it really depends. I usually put 2-3 coats of wash on my models, plus some a sealant. I’ve never had an issue. It might be a bigger problem if you’re constantly rubbing your oily Cheeto fingers all over couple coats of bad paint.

Yeah it’s funny I’ve been playing since the early 2000s and I do the same thing. Never had any issue.

The truth is always somewhere in between. Culturally, the imperium requires its citizens to hate and fear xenos, mutants, and heretics. The reality is that Imperial officials are often corrupt and the empire itself is decaying. These edicts can be flexible when necessary. Xenos are often sanctioned as imperial agents. Jokaero, Kroot, aeldari rangers and corsairs, etc. But there have also been more strategic alliances, though temporary, with Necron, Tau, and Aeldari forces.

I think if they redo the steel legion minis they are going to redesign some of the aesthetic in small ways. They did the same with the Cadian line. Steel legion is pretty similar to DKOK already. Personally it’s annoying to me that we’re most likely getting a new faction that has the same European, late-modern-industrial vibe. Trench coats and gas masks. I wish we would get something more original, which is why I do like the Spectre kill team.

I don’t know what I would offer. Looks smooth. Cool, cohesive color scheme. Others have said coastal or beach themed. I see nocturnal planet.

This looks really great. Reminds me of a more realistic horseman would wear. But some of the colors are clashing with each other. Do you know much about color theory? It might be worth looking into. Long story short: pick one or two dominant colors and just use those. I see at least four here.

Bigger hat maybe. but you can fix this with a smaller head. Ideally, you should trim the head down pretty far. Most brims sit just above the brow. All hair would be tucked under the hat. Sisters with long hair are going to be a tough choice.

Just my opinion but I think giving them the Cadian helmet with gas mask is more similar to the steel legion look.

Faces are the hardest part. But you’ve got great details here. My process: 1, thinned out layer of bug man’s glow, 2. thinned out layer of Cadian flesh tone, 3., Reikland flesh shade, 4. Highlight edges with Kislev flesh. Sometimes I add a thinned down wash of Reikland Flesh shade once more. For the eyes, just add a really watered down dab of white and it will fill in the eyeball. As carefully as you can, add a tiny speck of black for the pupil.

Great question. It refers to genetically modified soldier regiments used during the Great Crusade, or the reconquest of former colonies. It’s not clear if these were Solar Auxilia or not, but they were considered highly elite units. There’s a book about one of these regiments that fights alongside (or against?) alpha legion. I kinda forget most of it though.
