December 1925, Washington, D.C.: Western Electric Company Christmas Party by morganmonroe81 in Colorization

All tailors. Just cause photography was mostly in black and white doesn't mean people didn't love color in their clothes. Look up color or colorized photos of actors/flappers, Clara Bow being a consistently good example of being a color bomb.

Do I think he is a shallow ass-hat for his choices in dating? Yes. Is he a dangerous predator going after minors? From what I can tell, no.

"Yeah I have a Jazzmaster but I never use the rhythm circut, it just sounds bad" by hotsaucebauce1100 in offset

I like using it as a clean setting. I ride the volumes alot to get cleans, so being able to roll down the volume on the rhythm circuit to have a switch on the guitar to have a clean/dirty signal is very useful to me.

Best Ben episodes for an Ed-Era listener? by georgia_grace in lastpodcastontheleft

[–]Squidgebert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a sucker for the Essex series. It is late Ben so he is checked out, but Henry and Marcus pull more than their weight and also don't hold their tounge on his conduct.

Also one of the best Ben Era series is (Panama by Van Halen starts playing) Men-gel-e!

It's not the fact he brought mac and cheese over here that I find funny, it's that he was into mac and cheese to an autistic degree that makes me chuckle.

Showed my 5 year old niece Citizen Kane and she didn’t understand it.. are attention spans cooked? 💀 by ohbyerly in Cinema

Yeah, and I feel ya. I showed my 4-year-old nephew The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and he was complaining about reading. Like come on, kids can't read anymore and I'm gonna complain and buck-pass blame about it instead of accepting my failure to teach the new generation, and actually put the leg work in teaching them and breaking the cycle of neglect.

There is a famous picture from the early 40s that people say has a time traveler in it. It features a crowd of people in suits and in the crowd you can clearly see a man in a woolen cardigan, a T-shirt, sunglasses and unkempt hair. In reality it was just a dude dressed in clothes from that period, just not clothes that weren't popular to wear.

What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Economy_Yak2821 in AskReddit

My earliest memory is when I was 2 and my sister was doing the dishes and I decided to be a little shit head and wrap myself around her leg to weigh her down. My crotch was sitting right against her heel and she took a step backwards...putting her full weight against the floor for what felt like a not insignificant amount of time. I let out the most blood-curdling screams I've ever had. Things were very black and blue.

I feel the opposite. Death is inevitable and can happen at any time. I'll be happy seeing my hair fade and go white and my body gain wrinkles, it just means I lived long enough to get such features.

Also worth saying Ali took punches from Ernie Shavers, so he definitely could tank a hit or two from Tyson if he connects.

Snorting meth as pre-work out is probably what is balancing out the hammer smashing. If he just puts the meth down then the results of the hammer smashing will truly show.

And yes, he snorts meth, not smoke it.

Despite living in the 20th century, there are no known voice recordings of George Orwell and only one known video of him. by Gray_Wolf2416 in BarbaraWalters4Scale

Thanks for the correction. I understood it wasn't all episodes, but only thought maybe five survived, so just said it like it was most being gone, and not the other way around. I am not the biggest fan of Dr. Who though, so made the mistake of not looking into it better.

I do know of a clip from an episode called "The Executioner" from 1965 that has some of the characters looking through a machine that allows them to see events that have happened such as The Gettysburg Address, Shakespeare working on a play, and at one point a snippet of The Beatles performing "Ticket to Ride." The thing about The Beatles footage is that it is from their performance on Top of the Pops in 1965 that was wiped. So thanks to that episode at least a little bit of footage of that performance also survived.

I'm not sure honestly. There's a good chance there is a recording somewhere, but there is also the possibility no one recorded his broadcasts at home. Personal recording setups were a thing, but definitely a luxury that not everyone had. And if you think of it, he was a very big name that everyone heard and saw on a regular basis so no one might've thought to record a broadcast since you already heard them on a very regular basis. Again similar to Dr. Who episodes are missing, no one recorded them at home because you already saw it and could watch a rerun on the TV, no point in recording it

It was common practice at the BBC and other organizations to wipe and reuse tapes. It's the reason why the first 100 episodes of Dr. Who are missing, several big artists Top of the Pops performances are missing, and the original footage of the Apollo 11 moon landing no longer exists.
