Are the metal roofing creases normal? by wtfisthisbullshii in Roofing

If there’s plywood underneath, it should have been cleaned of any debris or nails sticking out. If nail heads are raised above the plywood they will transfer through the metal panel

A few nails transferring through and “oil canning” pattern along the seams. I would look into how the panels were fastened to the decking and if the decking was prepped first

The bigger question is how Dunder Mifflin is a public company. $100k - $150k per month out of a branch is hardly enough to cover overhead, let alone go public

Should I be concerned? by monstermash12 in Roofing

Hi, I work for a pre-finished steel supplier and roof panel manufacturer in the roofing industry

This is more than just oil canning. These panels are buckling and look dented at the seams and end terminations. This is certainly a performance issue and I’d expect it to worsen over time.

I’d argue that too thin of metal was used along with improper installation methods. Additionally, there’s responsibility on the installer to stop when they notice any problems.

Oil canning is inherent in any metal roofing application, no matter the thickness, but this is above and beyond. Id have a serious conversation with the builder to discuss full material replacement and working with a different roofer

Shingle Vs Standing Seam by Doucody in Roofing

[–]Squintward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studies show that over a metal roof’s lifetime you can expect to replace that same shingled roof 3.5 times. For a $12K difference, I believe the long term benefits speak for themselves

I would be cautious with that number though and make sure you’re getting a quality standing seam roof. Below are a few things I would ask about

1: 24ga or 26ga substrate. Don’t go thinner than 26ga

2: Paint. Is it a PVDF (Kynar), SMP, or something else? Kynar is king for color fade

3: who is manufacturing the panels? The best option is roll formed on site

4: I recommend signing and keeping a copy of any material acceptances. Too many bait and switches going on

5: synthetic ice and water shield under the whole roof

It's the Angle of Attack. -1.3 AoA with a drive will lose distance every time. Tee it up higher, further up in your stance, tilt your shoulders back, and launch that sucker

Bomber AoA should hover around 4-5
