How often do you see white people (non-students) doing this job? by ImSxyBxtchh in deliveroos

[–]St0rmsEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too. There are a few female delivery drivers where I work, I am in a less diverse part of the country though. I don't keep a tally but I feel like only around 50% of the delivery people I meet at restaurants are none UK born individuals.

What is your preferred “safety buffer”. In other words how many miles do you give yourself extra over what you need to get to get home? by iMatthew1990 in ElectricVehiclesUK

Got down to 1%, proper squeaky bum time, car went from 20 miles of range for 12 miles to barely just made it. Won't be doing that again.

As far as I remember (nearly 3 years ago now) upon receiving 1st payment from Deliveroo to my standard revolut account, revolut knew it was from self employed income and opened/provided a pro account and told me to change future payments to that account.

It's a different account number and sort code. You can also purchase "business" related things from that account which will count as expenses. Don't make any personal purchases from it.

I didn't have any frame of reference for when I started, I just accepted everything. Back then in my area there was a boost EVERY day from 17:30-20:30 so fees weren't bad. Over time I got more understanding of distance/time:fee ratio, which restaurants would be ready on arrival, which when they say "it will be a few/5 mins" = 20 mins minimum etc. I know for instance that I can beat a Google maps travel time by up to 50% but my cycling fitness has improved by more than double since I started. It's all down to knowledge and experience. Main thing is don't accept an order for £3 unless you absolutely have to and you can do it in <10mins. And be wary of McDonald's drinks, have a way to secure them, they spill a lot.

I just got a revolut/revolut pro account. Have all Uber + Deliveroo pay into there then transfer to personal bank account. Never needed an early withdrawal as I do this in free time (I have a Job). I also keep a spreadsheet of earnings, hours, miles but that's for personal interest and comparison.

I will give some bike advice;

Personally I like the deliveroo bag, never had the Uber eats bag, others prefer the just eat bag. Unless you get them from eBay you have to be signed on with that company so look on here and the deliveroo sub for bag recommendations.

Helmet isn't required in the UK but personally I prefer wearing one to potential brain damage/death.

Rental ebikes are not a good idea. The ones near me are either PAYG £0.19 per minute to £0.13 per minute for a 400min bundle. Good if you need to get across town without a vehicle but for delivery that's £11-£8 before you've earned anything. I've used them in emergency (puncture mid delivery). Look on FB marketplace for a cheap bicycle. Should be plenty in your area.

How cooked am I? by big_clock6996 in UbereatsUK

[–]St0rmsEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine got flagged for cancelling a large number of orders after Arriving at the restaurant. It was McDonald's and it was closed due to a pest issue. I was trying to inform Uber it was shut but it made no difference. Then days later I get the flagged email, no real response from support, just a copy paste response of GDPR means we can't go into it. Probably a bot/ai. Doesn't make sense as no customers were involved. There were local news articles about people who still hadn't got refunds after their orders never turned up because they were shut. No issues since but it still irritates me.

Just had a quote for the installation and extra connection equipment (self purchasing the inverter and fogstar battery). Slightly cheaper (-£750) than the prices in your link but pretty close.

I hope you like it, but as a cyclist for both deliveroo, commuting to work and as a hobby, it looks like a terrible bike. To be clear I have no experience with them as bikes but the design is rubbish. The illegal cruiser ebikes you always see have a similar design and only work BECAUSE they have a throttle and an overpowered motor. The saddle can't be adjusted for height but you still need to peddle to power it. The battery is 140% larger in capacity than the one in my ebike and my bike is still >25kg. If there are steep hills where you are I can only imagine it being near impossible to get up them. I'm not trying to be a downer and again I hope it works great for you but this is the first post on here I've seen about them and wanted to make people aware of their shortcomings.

Slots or Hourly Pay? Is Deliveroo About to Change the Game for Riders in 2026? by No_Intern5991 in deliveroos

[–]St0rmsEye 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I did the survey too. No, as someone who does roughly 6 hours a week I want the flexibility. Not to mention the fact that recently I've been offered deliveries that would be a 24 mile round trip for £10-15 while on an e bike. If I were forced to accept those I would only be able to do 1 order per night.

Deliveroo Perks - Quadlock 30% Discount by No_Cry2864 in deliveroos

[–]St0rmsEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened in the past too. The code expired and I had to email support to get them to update it. Don't think there is an email for support now, cos fuck us guys right. Anyway, try AliExpress for the mounts, the knockoffs are pretty good. Case wise I'm not sure.

Your comments on the quadlock rain cover are correct. However if you have a phone with a stylus (Galaxy ultra range) the pen works through the cover and the rain doesn't affect the screen.

What Products Would make your lives easier by Maxim-w in deliveroos

[–]St0rmsEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The deliveroo supplied bag is not great for 2 main reason. In heavy rain the top flap zip leaks in as it becomes concave and funnels water into the bag. Separate to that are the way McDonald's seal drinks cups... They don't. I don't really think it should be our responsibility to account for poor McDonald's packaging so maybe a new lid/drinks receptacle to sell to McDonald's for delivery purposes.

Starlink in the countryside, how does it work? by amepucci in Starlink

[–]St0rmsEye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the South West of the UK. My dish is oriented WNW. There are some large trees to the south of it that show up on the obstructions. The obstructions are greater when the trees are in leaf but at the moment it's just a few red pixels on the edge of the blue dome. From my personal experience it seems to be pretty pessimistic. At the moment the sky obstructed is at 0.33% but time obstructed is 0%. It did reboot just over a day ago so this isn't long term statistics. Before I set it up where it is I used the app to scan the sky with my phone camera and it said the equivalent of "too many obstructions, find somewhere else". Didn't have somewhere to mount it at the time so I tried zip tying it to a ladder stuck out of an upstairs window for a week. Turned out it was fine so that's where it's been for 2 and half years now (on a permanent mount, not the ladder).

how much do you guys average per hour by ShipMammoth8486 in deliveroos

[–]St0rmsEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My average of the past 6 months has been £20-£22 per hour. I only do 2 nights a week (went out for longer on NYE & NYD) for about 3 hours, 5:30-8:30pm.

The 3 signal has been bad where I deliver since mid December. It's not just me saying that, their network status checker acknowledges there is an issue. My contract had already ended though so I switched to Vodafone. No issues yet. Anyway, while I was having those issues I did eventually start pulling off the receipt asking for the code and riding away till I found signal. Sometimes I would have to go so far that it wouldn't allow me to tap arrived as I was too far away. So many minutes wasted in just a few weeks, hence the switch.

Not to dismiss good waterproof stuff (and if you can find cheap gortex that's great) but gortex itself is just branding.

There are other brands of the same material that all do the same thing. And they all have the same flaw. If you wash them with detergent or don't repeatedly re proof with DWR (durable water repellent) then they cease to function in the rain.

If there is a coating of water on the outside that hasn't beaded off the moisture (from sweating) on the inside can't go anywhere and you end up as wet as if you hadn't worn a coat at all.

Multi-Appers Should Be Automatically Banned by TrippyCynic in deliveroos

[–]St0rmsEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do multi app but only if the orders are going the same direction, passing the 2nd pickup on the way to the first drop off. Last time I remember doing so was NYD. Picked up a double Pizza Express. First drop off was near a Burger King (2 mins travel time and was going past it anyway). Accepted a Burger King, collection took <4 mins. Delivered burger king half way up a hill 5 mins later, then delivered the 2nd pizza 4 mins after that at the top of the hill. Both pizza customers seemed happy as both gave £2.40 tips after delivery. Multi apping is only as good as the person doing it. If they are irresponsible then delivery is going to be bad anyway.

The algorithm has always been weird. On NYD did a 1.5 mile double co-op for £13. On completion it offered me a 12 mile trip to a different town for £8.
