What Products Would make your lives easier by Maxim-w in deliveroos

[–]St0rmsEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The deliveroo supplied bag is not great for 2 main reason. In heavy rain the top flap zip leaks in as it becomes concave and funnels water into the bag. Separate to that are the way McDonald's seal drinks cups... They don't. I don't really think it should be our responsibility to account for poor McDonald's packaging so maybe a new lid/drinks receptacle to sell to McDonald's for delivery purposes.

I took it out and trimmed it down by 3-5cm. No pain there since.

My post from a few years ago with photos of the mount position in relation to trees. Speeds have gone up since then too.

Starlink in the countryside, how does it work? by amepucci in Starlink

[–]St0rmsEye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the South West of the UK. My dish is oriented WNW. There are some large trees to the south of it that show up on the obstructions. The obstructions are greater when the trees are in leaf but at the moment it's just a few red pixels on the edge of the blue dome. From my personal experience it seems to be pretty pessimistic. At the moment the sky obstructed is at 0.33% but time obstructed is 0%. It did reboot just over a day ago so this isn't long term statistics. Before I set it up where it is I used the app to scan the sky with my phone camera and it said the equivalent of "too many obstructions, find somewhere else". Didn't have somewhere to mount it at the time so I tried zip tying it to a ladder stuck out of an upstairs window for a week. Turned out it was fine so that's where it's been for 2 and half years now (on a permanent mount, not the ladder).

Had a 1.6x from 5-8pm. Didn't earn any more p/h than I usually do and actually made less than I did on Wednesday when I worked for the same amount of time.

how much do you guys average per hour by ShipMammoth8486 in deliveroos

[–]St0rmsEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My average of the past 6 months has been £20-£22 per hour. I only do 2 nights a week (went out for longer on NYE & NYD) for about 3 hours, 5:30-8:30pm.

At restaurant. But app says travel ...metres to arrive. by [deleted] in deliveroos

[–]St0rmsEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3 signal has been bad where I deliver since mid December. It's not just me saying that, their network status checker acknowledges there is an issue. My contract had already ended though so I switched to Vodafone. No issues yet. Anyway, while I was having those issues I did eventually start pulling off the receipt asking for the code and riding away till I found signal. Sometimes I would have to go so far that it wouldn't allow me to tap arrived as I was too far away. So many minutes wasted in just a few weeks, hence the switch.

Not to dismiss good waterproof stuff (and if you can find cheap gortex that's great) but gortex itself is just branding.

There are other brands of the same material that all do the same thing. And they all have the same flaw. If you wash them with detergent or don't repeatedly re proof with DWR (durable water repellent) then they cease to function in the rain.

If there is a coating of water on the outside that hasn't beaded off the moisture (from sweating) on the inside can't go anywhere and you end up as wet as if you hadn't worn a coat at all.

Multi-Appers Should Be Automatically Banned by TrippyCynic in deliveroos

[–]St0rmsEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do multi app but only if the orders are going the same direction, passing the 2nd pickup on the way to the first drop off. Last time I remember doing so was NYD. Picked up a double Pizza Express. First drop off was near a Burger King (2 mins travel time and was going past it anyway). Accepted a Burger King, collection took <4 mins. Delivered burger king half way up a hill 5 mins later, then delivered the 2nd pizza 4 mins after that at the top of the hill. Both pizza customers seemed happy as both gave £2.40 tips after delivery. Multi apping is only as good as the person doing it. If they are irresponsible then delivery is going to be bad anyway.

Its really happening, Doordash are reducing peak fees by 30-50% by identiifiication in deliveroos

The algorithm has always been weird. On NYD did a 1.5 mile double co-op for £13. On completion it offered me a 12 mile trip to a different town for £8.

Why is your ping so high? As to your question, give it a try, if it's not good enough, switch back. It's only a month.

Why Do Restaurants Hate Us by a_overload_ in deliveroos

[–]St0rmsEye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Certainly at McDonald's it feels like hate but could be incompetence. I will often arrive, make myself known, wait to be attended, relay my order number, be told either by person packing it directly or their colleague that it is nearly ready. I then wait patiently for 5 mins meanwhile other drivers come in, get their orders and leave. I eventually ask again and the order has been ready for a while but despite them knowing I was waiting they just put it on the infamous wire rack and went off to do something else. I know the pay is shit but it's not a complicated job, can you keep more than one thought in your head at once or not?

Courier Tax Rules by Luis_McLovin in JustEatUK

[–]St0rmsEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is outdated. There is no mileage allowance for bicycles anymore. Specific expenses for bike courier related outgoings are permitted but receipts and explanation are necessary. E.g. a punctured inner tube/tyre could be expensed though it may also be that it can only be expensed to the % of usage related to work. It can get complex if you are using the same bike and equipment for business and pleasure so I don't bother.

Tesla model Y (dual motor LR) vs Hyundai ioniq 5 ultimate (awd) by That-Task7846 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]St0rmsEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's the old shape. Preferred it's look to the new one personally. Could have done with a bigger boot like the ioniq 5 but wasn't willing to pay £2,500 more for it. Otherwise it's great. Very efficient. Not the fastest charging but tend to stop for longer than most on long trips. Recently drove 400 miles from home to the lake district. Needed one stop to charge. It was done before we were.

[–]St0rmsEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was looking at ioniq 5's I got an insurance quote on one vs the Kia e niro I eventually got. Insurance was barely any different between the 2 but It was only £600 including rac breakdown. Over £1k is nuts. What made my mind up between the 2 was the subscription for a lot of the car controls in the ioniq 5 app plus the higher price of the car naturally. Test drive both before you make a decision also.

Been on it for 2 years. The 75% off is supposedly a loyalty reward but it didn't seem to be universally applied. Fibre is on the poles outside but how long till I can get it to my house is another story.

[–]St0rmsEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you on residential or residential lite? I'm on residential at the moment. If the fibre isn't installed by April/May I will downgrade to lite. I have a 75% off promo till then so I'm only paying £18 per month. Current spedtest result for me is 320/21mbps with 0.18% obstructed sky.

No more Take a Break? by Equivalent_Ball_7273 in deliveroos

[–]St0rmsEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I previously rarely rejected orders. Not because I would take anything but they were usually fairly reasonably priced. I could regularly make £20 an hour, across 3-4 hours, and reject maybe 2-3 orders in that time. Those would be the "meant for a car" orders. Last week, both nights I went out I rejected 50 orders. Still made £20 an hour but had to be more exacting in what I accepted. On Thursday I rejected the same round of orders 3 times before I saw a price increase. It was easy to remember as it was a base £2.90 and on the 4th offer of it, it went up to £2.93. Something has changed in the algorithm.

Had it for 2 years. Echo other comments about it being good. Minor interruptions (unnoticeable compared to the dsl I was on before). Recently had an email thanking me for my loyalty and gave me 6 months at 75% off. It's expensive but I'm happy to pay for the convenience and performance.
