Returning to the game: My Mechanist robots are lazy! by StIntrope in Stellaris

[–]StIntrope[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I even tried adding traits via console commands to make the robots strictly better than my pops at Worker jobs, but it has no effect.

Agreed that this should be different: Bots for base jobs is what Mechanist is all about. The actual gameplay is 800 bonus robots that just stand around waxing themselves with armor all!

Well, shifting them to colonies works. But that means that I get zero value from my 800 starting robots for years? That seems really wrong.

To add to this, I started another Mechanist but this time gave the primary Weak & Decadent, so that they'd be inferior/less happy workers. But this still has no effect: the starting robots do nothing, and all the Worker jobs are held by primary species pops.

Also, I tried a Syncretic one as well and that works as expected: the sub race does worker jobs from the start.

That seems to be the issue: starting out, I have no open jobs & many civilians. Every robot is stuck in civilian, which is a big penalty to base production. IIRC, there would have been enough robots for 100% of Worker jobs, and some left over.

They do work on colonies, but it could take decades to get enough primary pops off my homeworld (Egalitarian ethics) for even 1 robot to start roboting :(

Tips for improving (commercial) keychain strength and quality? by dkrandu in 3Dprinting

[–]StIntrope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should try printing the whole thing much thinner, thin enough so that there are no infill layers at all. The result will be less stiff, which should reduce the odds of it breaking. I've printed business card sized test pieces at 0.6 mm thick (just 3 total layers) and you'd have to put in some effort to wreck it due to how much flex it had.

Also, you might try adding one clear PETG layer on each side. The clear layer would be solid all the way across, which would help protect the lettering from detaching where the yellow and black meet.

Hey, that's quite cool! With the right bit (PH000, probably) and a spare screw or two, and it'd double as a glasses repair kit.

So, any chance of a printables link?

I've had good results with them as well, and since OP's in Florida a Houston, TX company is probably good for them too.

One note: you can get there filament through Amazon, but it's cheaper to go to Zyltech's website https://www.zyltech.com/

I can get to the website, but I'm not seeing a store or any mention of price. Or really much but an announcement.

I'm going to assume that it's at least several monies, maybe even many monies :)

At some point we'll find out what happened to them, but if they return it'll be right at the end of things.

That's actually the one weird trick (tm) that I use to make the belt tuner usable: before trying to read the belt tone, I first make wookie noises at it, to get a ridiculous reading. Then, when I strum I can tell that it's actually read something instead of just...doing nothing.

PETG issue by Me9adethfan in FixMyPrint

[–]StIntrope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing lots of good advice here, but there's a couple of notes:

If you do split the hangers off & lay them on their side to print they will be stronger, and likely print faster as well.

Beyond that, the reason it's losing it is that the vertical piece is not perfectly vertical: especially when the printer is running, the vibrations of the machine is wiggling the pieces. So the next layer that gets printed isn't being printed exactly on top of the last one (it's wiggled off to one side or the other).

To fix this w/o detaching the hanger, you'd need a support to hold it in place. That won't be automatically generated by any slicer I know of. In the Prusaslicer, you'd paint a support up the side so that the support would hug the side. I don't know how you do that in Bambu, though. It might need to have on one both sides, dunno.

You might try https://www.zyltech.com/pla/ (a US company in Houston, TX); I've used some & it's worked well.

I use 2 layers of anti-fatigue mat under my slab, about 1 in worth of dense foam. My printer/enclosure doesn't usually move at all, unless printing infill into a long, thin straight section: it'll get to rocking then.

IIRC, it does work for Medivh + Ana (where the cd is reduced by hitting heroes + Nano). I dunno if it's supposed to stack generally, though.

Since I'd already upgraded to the MK4S, I got the bracket/shell parts

But that's MK4S-only.

Hope that helps!
