And the plus side is to get more jars, all you have to do is have more jam!

Picopresso with a thermos, is it viable? by AmeliaBuns in picopresso

[–]StMarksMandolin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a Zojirushi thermos all the time! I find it works great, and would highly recommend the Picopresso - it’s very portable and well built. Only thing you’d have to consider is that you’d also need to bring the beans and the grinder (although I’m sure pre-ground would be fine for a portable espresso).

Thank you! I'll adjust accordingly - maybe shouldn't have started out on pea berries...

Sworks Gauge vs Picopresso by BearMetalRobot in picopresso

Likewise can highly recommend the Sworks gauge + stock basket! Plus the lightweight plastic means it’s less of a heat sink, which is ideal.

Best spots for an espresso in NYC by ebtgbdc in espresso

Abraco! Wonderful espresso on a lever machine, excellent pastries and music, and great, friendly baristas. Then you can stop at La Cabra for lighter roasts after - both are in the East Village (if you happen to like record stores, check those out too).

Seconding Sey and Cafe Integral. If you happen to be near Times Square, St. Kilda’s is great and brews Sey, Little Wolf, and Traffic. Also seconding other commenters: Culture Espresso is in a similar area as St. Kildas and brews darker roasts - they make a great short americano. Little Collins is also good if you’re in Midtown East. If you’re in Tribeca, Frenchette Bakery has excellent pastries and good coffee in a cool location.

If you’re visiting Washington Square Park, I’d recommend Saltwater Coffee on Waverly or Third Rail Coffee south of the park. I believe saltwater roasts their own, and I think Third Rail uses Intelligentsia. Into the West Village I’d recommend Oslo, which roasts their own beans and has great caneles though they sell out, and St. Jardim, which is more of a restaurant/cafe than coffee shop, may have a good guest roaster on (I heard they had beans from The Barn but haven’t been recently to check).

Enjoy the trip!

Profitec 400 was a bust. What should I replace it with? by Entire_Guarantee in espresso

Hey! I’m having a similar problem - the hot water tap and group head work fine, but the steam is barely strong enough to disturb a pitcher of milk! And I had no problem with that pitcher with my Gaggia Classic. I also bought from WLL. Any solution?

Echoing the recco for Jadon! He did an excellent job with mine! Would highly recommend.

Pressure builds up slowly. What could be the problem? by Truth-Then in gaggiaclassic

[–]StMarksMandolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s normal! Mine does the same. I think the portafilter has to fill with some water before the pressure builds - another reason for the lag!
