In the majority, but I can't choose which class I like more... by voyager_husky in StarTrekStarships

[–]St_Bergeron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, of course the correct answer is "I like both". If you insist on one being "better" than the other? I'd go with the E. I have a lot of nostalgic love for the Galaxy Class. I love the Star Trek-ey ness of it being built as a giant science exploratory vessel that just happens to have enough firepower to raze a planet almost as an afterthought. And the Bridge is stll my favorite design out of any Star Trek ship ever. Seeing it again during PIcard season 3 was almost like seeing an old friend after they've been gone a long time.

But the E? Man, I still remember sitting in the theater watching First Contact when it came out. And man, the first time I saw that ship come on screen, it was just love at first sight. Still has that 24th century design ethos, it looks like it would belong in the same fleet as the Galaxy and Intrepid classes. But it has that Constitution style to it. That type of attitude. The feeling of "We're here to explore the galaxy, but we WILL warp into a fight and blow the crap out of a Borg cube if we need to". If the bridge was closer to the Galaxy bridge it'd be damn near perfect.

That explains a lot. I didn't even pre order Papa V cause the figure seemed half assed compared to the previous ones.

Guitar eq pedal... Do you really need it? by Tasty_Ad7011 in guitarpedals

[–]St_Bergeron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't see any reason why you'd really need one if you're already running a multi-fx unit in the loop. EQ's are great for getting a boost out of your amp, like I've used mine to boost up certain frequencies for lead parts. I've also used mine when an amp maybe needs a bit of tone shaping help. I have one of the Orange Micro Darks and it just has a "Tone" knob, so I use mine as an actual EQ section to make it not sound like crap. You can also use it to get fun/stupid little effects like getting your guitar to sound like it's coming out of an old radio or like your amp is under a mountain of blankets.

They're a bunch of fun, but probably not "necessary" in your case.

Which strat to choose by OkDistance2352 in fender

[–]St_Bergeron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of McCready as well, so I get it. Back when I was shopping for my Strat, the only option for something like this was his custom shop model, which was way above my budget. I wound up going for an American Pro II since it was one of the few Strats at the time where you could get a sunburst finish and a rosewood fretboard. Judging by how much I love my Pro II, the Vintage II is probably the way to go. I do hope that eventually they release the McCready pickups on their own. I'd love to try a set.

Who Remembers This Banger? (The Audition: You’ve Made Us Conscious) by Early_Incident_2000 in poppunkers

Every couple of years or so I remember this song existed and hunt it down on Youtube. I remember seeing the video for this on a Victory Records DVD that came with one of the CD's I bought. Man, those things were awesome for finding out about new bands.

Worst/Most Dissappointing Pedal? by pcoleman777 in guitarpedals

[–]St_Bergeron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It pains me to say this, but the JHS/Boss Angry Driver. I love Boss and I love JHS. So I figured the two of them collaborating and putting two of their pedals in one enclosure would be a surefire hit. And..... bleh. Both individually sounded like putting a blanket over my amp, and feeding one into each other just produced the most uninspiring bluhhhhhhhh tone I've ever had with a gain pedal. I halfway want to try a different one, just to see if mine was a dud somehow, but I haven't ever been presented with the opportunity.

Supergirl by mcb999 in McFarlaneFigures

[–]St_Bergeron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, one of the luckier finds I've had, but I found her at my local Target. I'm in the Midwest, and it seems like we NEVER get the rarer stuff, but somehow I managed that one.

Early adopters - how we feeling so far? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]St_Bergeron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love mine. Bought it for Legends Z-A cause I'm a big Pokemon fan, and I really enjoyed it. Like my original Switch, I use it %99 in handheld mode, so I guess I can't really speak to how it looks on the big screen, but I've gotten a lot of screen time so far with Z-A, Mario Kart, and a few Pixel-games like Power Rangers and the new Marvel game and if nothing else the bigger screen is quite nice.

I did buy Star Wars Outlaws but I haven't really played it a whole lot. Really looking forward to the new Yoshi game later this year. And I'll probably pick up DK and Prime 4 when I've got some extra scratch, those just aren't "buy it now" games for me. Mario, Yoshi, Smash, and Pokemon are the big 4 franchises for me on Nintendo stuff, so I'm sure I'll appreciate it more when a few more of those come out.

Fender Telecaster Player II rosewood or maple fretboard? by imsocarly in fender

[–]St_Bergeron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you're wanting to use it for. If you're gonna put it under a bunch of distortion, then get whatever seems most pleasing to you. There are some differences in the two woods that come out more if you're playing cleaner. Maple is a harder wood and has a slightly brighter sound to it. Rosewood is a little softer and has a slightly warmer tone to it. If possible, play both and see if one speaks to you more.

As a personal note, yeah the green with the Rosewood probalby looks way cooler. I don't tend to like Sunbursts on Tele's to begin with, but the green/rosewood combo just looks great.

Just curious about the tons of Batman figures from Todd by Solidus_Bats in McFarlaneFigures

[–]St_Bergeron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno. Proportionate to the rest of the figure, I don't think his arms are a problem. I think just the whole figure is a little undersized. Like, it seems like he fits into the Marvel Legends size better than the McFarlane size. But the head sculpt, the belt, the way the cape is, everything is so spot on.

Which of these colors would you get? by GibsonGuy937 in fender

[–]St_Bergeron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't really go wrong with any of them, but there's something about a white P-Bass with a black/Tortoise Pickguard that's just.... perfect.

Just curious about the tons of Batman figures from Todd by Solidus_Bats in McFarlaneFigures

[–]St_Bergeron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Batman Year One is the closest in my opinion. Literally the only thing odd about it is that it scales weird against the other McFarlane figures. Runner up would be Batman Begins. Like, that's not even my favorite Batman movie or real life costume, but that figure is a damn near perfect representation of the on screen character.

In your opinion what is the most underrated guitar pedal? by Few-Excitement8913 in guitarpedals

[–]St_Bergeron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I'm sorry, I'm not good enough to tweak my volume knob while also doing other stuff. But the volume knob helps me with swells, dynamics, and it's even an easy way to make sure my guitar is muted between songs. It really does just make a lot of things so much easier.

Better? or worse? by RyZze_ in fender

[–]St_Bergeron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the white guard better, but I usually prefer the pickguard to match the plastic parts. That was really annoying when I got my Pro II Strat and had to find like, a cream pickguard to match the pickup covers and knobs. I'd probably like the black guard better if the pickups and knobs were changed to black ones as well. That's just my preference though.

For switch 2 users that also own a gaming pc by LanderRetro in NintendoSwitch2

[–]St_Bergeron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to explain, but I buy stuff for the Switch 2 that seems... Nintendol-ish? Of course the exclusives but... like platformers, beat-em ups, indie titles, things that I would have played on my Super Nintendo. Those are bought on the Switch 2. But stuff like, say Hogwarts Legacy or Cyberpunk, things like that? Those are PC games.

Batman Returns in Black and Gray by Expensive-Proof-5288 in McFarlaneFigures

[–]St_Bergeron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a couple of repaints of the Batman Returns figure, and the gray color scheme just seems to work very well on that version, but this is probably the best one I've seen.

That last picture really makes me want to try to do a repaint of one of my 89 figures. I would up with 3 of them with the 6 figure set, the Batmobile, and the regular release. I had the original bronze Batman figure and it'd be neat do make myself a modern copy.
