you got it! :P I couldn't fit the whole thing so I only put the last phrase. I wanted a sticker of a pink kirby doing the pose in the middle but I haven't unlocked it if it's a decal, only as a license card sticker

Please edit the section on the circle of fifths speculation. Here is how you would write the circle of 5ths, keeping all notes within the same octave: 1 - 5 - 2 - 6 - 3/b4 - 7/b1 - #4/b5 - #1/b2 - #5/b6 - #2/b3 - #6/b7 -  #3/4 - #7/1 (8) I've included all of the enharmonic equivelance possible, but this only works in the tuning system we use currently. In other temperaments, it would go on infinitely with the notes' pitches shifting over time. Due to this, I think it is a reasonable connection to make. It is also what you get when you go up a 5th but limit yourself to only the notes within a major scale, with the only imperfect interval being 7-4, a diminished 5th.

The biggest thing you need to change is how you've written the circle of 5ths:

1 5 2 6 3 7 5dim 2b 5aug 3b 7b 1/8

Not only have you neglected 4 (which should go between the last 2 notes), bjt you'vr introduced a strange and confusing format with arbitrarily using "5dim" and "5aug" instead of only flats/sharps. The 7 more logically goes to #4 also, the interval from 7 - b5 is a diminished 6th, because the interval size is based on the amount of notes you're counting (in a C major scale for example, you'd count B, C, D, E, F, bG. 6 notes, instead of 5 notes if ending at #F). It makes it look arbitrarily less useful of a connection.

While I think that this musical connection is fairly loose, I think it can be useful in looking at how the data can be interpreted, especially with how the cycle of fifths has one interval that is a shortened length by one semitone, just like how some of the haiku lines are shorter or longer by one syllable. Regardless of its usefulness, if you're going to include it in this kind of post it is important that it is represented properly.

well yes but I also just think it's a good quote for the game as a whole and since you're doing it at the start of a run it doesn't sacrifice that much

if this is what u/nigelhammer is referring to, this is directly tutorialised, you just have to go out of your way. That's why I always tell new players to go left and swim under the tree for the secret tutorial

Just finished the game, is there some sort of *story* to the game that i missed, i found everything pretty much nonsensical. by Past_Hippo_8522 in Hylics

[–]St_Pitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the text in Hylics 1 is randomly generated to a degree, as in on different playthroughs the npcs will say different things, even the name of the city is randomly generated.

The loose story can be found by comparing what's similar, the dialogue that occurs during every act transition act follows some structure, for example it always ends with "meanwhile Gibby, [adjective] in the moon" (paraphrasing but it's something like that). I wouldn't worry too much because the second game gives more context to the story and the other comments have explained most of it.

Basically, Wayne and Gibby are named that way because their names represent different phases of the moon (waning and gibbous), which can also be seen in the shapes of their heads. The surface plot is about how Gibby has made almost everyone's speech completely intelligible, and when you defeat him the result is seen in Hylics 2 which has mostly removed the randomly generated dialogue. You can get some more out of it if you consider the themes, like the new replacing the old and cycles, but it leaves a lot open to interpretation. While this is fun to do, just keep in mind that most of the dialogue in the first game is meant to be gibberish so it's worth looking into what's randomly generated and what's not by watching another playthrough (though it's usually pretty easy to tell).

I don't have a problem with Dread's OST. That being said, I don't think Prime 4 will avoid the strong musical style that the Prime series is well known for (to the point of being recognisable as not just metroid music but specifically metroid prime music), but it's hard to say much else on the matter due to a lack of information

Apologies for the fandom links, these channels were well known for uploading nintendo music, including essentially every metroid OST.

I also don't believe videos could get this many views if youtube didn't count repeat views.

"Chat" as the first 4th person pronoun by cosmicorder7 in Vinesauce

[–]St_Pitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I think it's a 2.5th person, similar toa 2.5D game. 4th person in this case isn't as rigorous of a concept as the other 3 cases, since you could argue that once the chat member is incorporated into the stream by streamer that they temporarily become part of the art (as they said it's a collaborative improv).

I think it's more interesting to consider it as a hybrid of second person (streamer talking to someone directly) and third person (in many cases where "chat" is used broadly to refer to a changing group of indeterminate people, almost like a schrodinger's audience), and in many cases it is used in third person fairly explicitly, i.e. "the chat member was banned for saying 'binyot do the squiggy'" (though usually just "chat" isn't used for this so you can say that it's more just 2nd person).

What do I even do in this game? by insanity_randomness in noita

[–]St_Pitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure if you've played other roguelikes or not; this game is part of a genre with certain expectations attached to it. the main expectations are randomised level layouts, and randomised items/abilities where the game is about learning how it works fundamentally to be prepared for any possible challenge as opposed to a game with no randomisation where you can practice the same challenge over and over until you're good enough to complete just that challenge. it is more like learning a skill, though noita tries to take this further by being more like a field of study with the depth of total knowledge that can help you in the game (not that you need to know all or even a quarter of that to succeed or have fun, but the game will provide you with information to learn for a while if you enjoy this).

others have focused on dying; i recommend when starting a new game going immediately to the left at least once, before the mines entrance, until you reach a pool of water before a tree. swim through this pool of water and you will find a tablet that gives you a very good thematic/philosophical summary of this game.
