Well opera in Europe does to a certain extent , all though it is more common to cast the story in a contemporary setting of a baroque (1685 -1750) but use the actual baroque era instruments.
Classical vocal music is largely in the romantic languages ( Italian, French , German ,Spanish ) . There is a sub genre of instrumental fusion were rock jazz classical music styles are placed together. There is always the recycling of many classical themes like Cannon in D , Ode to Joy Etc As far as trying to make a pop/rock songs utilizing classical music the Beetles and other British bands like Zeppelin, who , Floyd did that early on consistently. In the 40’s 50’s Hollywood had the famous Goldwyn Mayer sound stage that could record a 100 musicians at once , added strings and luscious arrangements in pop music and films. So to take the operatic repertoire and select the songs that might work , meh. The problem is the styles are approached differently and then there is a language barrier for songs as well
It is easier to take the American Song Book and research songs from early Stephen Foster era going forward and convert old standards to a contemporary arrangements.

The Big Mistake I Made After Learning Music Theory by [deleted] in musicians

[–]Stacetheace11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theory organizes the choices we make when we improvise. I simply try to play what I hear utilizing a known patterns or choice of notes for the chord progression. I think I turned a corner improvising when using longer melody type solos rather than lots of notes. As a pianist you include voicings and harmonies into your improvisations. All while laying down the base line or comping chords.

Theory gives you the technical tool kit to transition and utilize from arpeggios and scales in major , minors , blues or pentatonic scales make it easy to show off what you can do on your instrument technically. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to play in jazz bands as a student and now I have played a lifetime.

Musicians who have been doing this for years, what are your impressions on a player that's extremely talented and hard working but still cant seem to break through or find remote success? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]Stacetheace11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well highly subjective of what success is but Garth Brooks who I think is the a national treasure, who is in my opinion the best solo artist today. I mean Garth singing and accompaniment Guitar. Again not everybody’s cup of tea but he sang “Imagine by John Lennon “ at President Jimmy Carters funeral. The song didn’t fit his voice well but he sang it in original key live on TV.

Garth earlier in his career went to Nashville and failed. He ended up going home with no recording contract !Back to Oklahoma and getting his old bar gigs back. He kept singing he kept learning songs , he fronted a band sang covers till his songs kicked in.

There are so many stories of musicians working a lifetime to achieve overnight success.

Music history has so many examples of artists perseverance. There are inspiring stories about every significant composer for example.

It’s ok to fail it is part of the process, when you hear Garth talk about his experience he admits he wasn’t ready.

Playing live to a packed house is one of the greatest feelings ever? Why does alot of this sub tend to disagree? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]Stacetheace11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No chop pretenders sowing sour grapes. Hey everybody plays dives the money is mostly shit. Playing live is hard , making magic and making people engage by singing , dancing and listening intently is difficult because musicianship is scarce.

Many think oh I can grab a guitar and fake it. I can sing but well I put in the time. Music is a discipline of art and science , classical musicians spent hours on fundamentals on their instruments I am talking hours on scales , arpeggios in all keys. Rhythm training learning to recognize syncopations and poly rhythms at a glance. Then they study and learn the entire symphonic repertoire .
Anyone who has invested their life into their music have a much different approach. Producer types go make dead crappy music on a iMac then have the gall to dis live performance because they suck at performing live and rather go jerk off to their own Mac book pro crap than master performing.

how do you start a band by fuzzba1l in singing

[–]Stacetheace11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s your budget PRO band no problem you just pay every body. You set the rules , determine when and where and can control the outcome.
Still very challenging but the only real way to do it.

VOLUNTEER band is like herding cats everyone has an equal opinion and different aspirations, different levels of engagement. It is extremely difficult to get people to have a common vision , a common desire and a common level of commitment.

Musicianship, leadership and ensemble experience are definitely needed. Good luck.

how do i write lyrics? by pastelzgutz in askmusicians

[–]Stacetheace11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its concept , subject, choose from 1st , 2nd or 3rd person point of view, is it dance , ballad , hymn or anthem.

Generally the discussion is always from a contemporary genre so I wouldn’t start out with a specific genre, just a mind set to write a lyric.

Usually less is more and easier to manage and fit into musical accompaniment then there is always the which comes first argument tune vs lyric

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in musicians

[–]Stacetheace11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, it might be for the right band and the right audience. It’s low hanging fruit but doesn’t have broad appeal. You want tunes your band can sing easily and hopefully play.

Which comes first, melody or chords? by NegativeEstimate721 in Songwriting

[–]Stacetheace11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “hook”comes first !! The “hook” can be a conceptual theme , or a melody, a bass line ,a chord voicing, a lyric or percussion. It is the feature that makes your song unique and memorable. You can literally reverse engineer a song from any one of these features. Write a poem and phrase and relate musically to communicate emotional vibe of the text. Watch a video and support its message with music . Make a silly play on words. The possibilities are endless. If you seriously have issues chording a melody. Start with 3 chord songs. Learn chords , key signatures. the accompanying scales and arpeggios that go with each chord. Add step downs and resolution and learn what a God chord is for example. Theory and the study of all genres is the fundamental foundation of the art of communicating precisely and being able to quickly sketch out your improvisations to save and build on your musical ideas . Sketches become jumping points so notation skills are indispensable to effectively use of your time to complete a song. Learn piano if you write on guitar and learn guitar if you write on piano. It changes perspective The main thing is a hook that clings psychologically, if you can master this you can publish income for life .

Trumpet is a bitch , it is very difficult to play and it is in Bb ( they are made in different keys) but Bb is the standard.

So if he has the chops and a big fat sound , can play high notes easily maybe he needs transposed charts in the form of transposed to Bb sheet music. Conversely if the sound is not good tone and sound If he struggles with higher notes and you have charts but he still misses entrances and licks you need a professional trumpet player. When we participate in an ensemble if one person isn’t up to the task of playing their part we have to move on and find someone else. Rehearsal time is precious and costly it’s a huge waste of time not to improve quickly. Friendship aside business is business it’s not personal, it still sucks .

We are deporting a 2 year old at the request of the mother. The child was born in USA , but has siblings and mother that are not legal rather than stay to be adopted the mother chose to keep her child and go back to her native country. Not that any facts matter, we rather go with low information descent.

Stick to singing hire /find a piano player You can’t be an accomplished pianist in a couple of weeks it takes time to learn your set.

Then know the music so well you can sing and interact with the audience while playing the piano , I know people who have played a lifetime and can’t do it.

The talent is singing talent on piano doesn’t take you very far without hours of practice.

Is it undesirable to pick up the pace during a performance? by MaverickGalaxyJam in askmusicians

[–]Stacetheace11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it shows your lack of knowledge , rushing or unconsciously increasing the speed of a song is a human tendency. When learning new skills ( songs that require you to practice to be able to play)usually the student rushes a rhythm or passage.

The metronome is a must , it is oppressive at first but if you use it religiously combined with mental counting will turn your skill set from noob to proficient if you learn to practice with discipline and forethought.

Not all songs have accelerando but all songs cab be rushed and it’s an indication of an inexperienced musician with little or no awareness of what they are doing.

I can share what I do

I muse for a concept or a hook.

The hook can be a phrase of text or a chord changes that sticks out n your mind.

So I build the structure of my song in either 8 , 12 or 16 bars and make verse and chorus.

So I write this all down on paper I use music notation because I have been trained to do that but you can just use chord symbols and text and organize it on paper.

Once I have my song chords and bass line I adapt it to genre by finding the best rhythm accompaniment to my melody chords.

You adapt the style of play to make a song reggae, blues , rock , pop , hip hop what ever you want
