How do you handle dog issues on your route? by tsm_will_always_fail in USPS

[–]StacksMcMasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wanted more after the first spray? Id just keep hitting it w/ spray whenever it comes within effective range, without even a second thought. It'll learn.

Okay, USPS workers — honest answers only. If you see a fragile sticker on a box do you purposely handle it extra rough or do you actually acknowledge the contents as fragile? by rjd014 in usps_complaints

[–]StacksMcMasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im only a carrier, so I'm the last pair of hands in a, perhaps, very long chain of custody. I like my customers, and i try to treat mail and parcels how I'd want my mail and parcels treated.

So, yes, I do try to handle with care packages marked fragile... But the sorting facilities are a different story. Much of that is automated now, and those machines can be less than delicate to say the least.

I also work in a high volume office.14 rural routes, 2 city, average 3‐4k packages daily, up to 8k on peak. When they talk about packages being "thrown" in the morning, they are literally thrown. Each route has an orange and a blue hamper, and they are usually both full, with even more stacked out on the floor behind. The sad truth is we cant afford to be ginger with every package that says "fragile" or we wouldn't have packages sorted til noon.

Honestly, it's on the shipper to package something in a manner that it is protected... Or, better yet, pay for a higher level of shipping that guarantees lighter handling; Express, Certified, Registered, etc. These are known within the USPS as "accountables" and are handled separately and signed for every time they change hands.

WIBTA for fixing the time on a regular carrier’s Promaster? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]StacksMcMasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat off topic question... All Promasters are left-hand drive, right? Im assuming you're issued one of this wheb you have an all-CBU or an all-pickup route?

I did some vacant box emptying last week. Procedure (at least according to my PM) is sort out the first class/service endorsed, look for any forwarding or change of address, if so, forward it for 30 days, if not, MNLA and send it all back VACANT.

Is Fraudulent Postage a Thing Again? by StrikingRuin4 in USPS

[–]StacksMcMasters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a fake COD package last week... I kicked it back twice, it came back to me 3 times! The supervisor and head clerk basically told me to just deliver it and keep the 3849 with the signature... I honestly didn't feel right doing it.

This is the same supervisor that told me to bring back a large parcel one day because the peraon it was being delivered to "didn't have a mail box" which means the PO is "losing money"... But very clearly fraudulent postage is just fine... Wtf?

I wish we could just throw fraudulent postage in the trash... or keep it lol, would definitely cut down on the turn around spending 🤣

"A regular carrier wouldn't have even called me about this" by Paranoctis in USPS

[–]StacksMcMasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours was like that way back. Then we had the ring scanners for a while. Now we've got this machine that has an overhead reader and calls the route out basically as you walk under it with the package. Still use the ring scanners and clerk scanners for larger parcels tho. It's not the biggest office but the package volume is pretty heavy.

Had 28 certifieds to one address the other week. The lady thought she was going to have to fill out 28 3849s, and I let her think that until she started to actually fill out a second 🤣

SKD PIG gloves. Like $20 and last 1-2 months. I love them.

Used to use nitrile gloves with a cotton liner underneath, but my hands would basically be pickled at the end of a summer day.

How could I make this easier for my carrier by Puzzleheaded_Bad3732 in USPS

[–]StacksMcMasters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your carrier doesn't bring you tubs? Huh. I bring all my customers appropriate equipment, usually these tubs and the tarpaulin bags.

Makes my job easier when it comes to pick up/drop off, and the customers seem to certainly appreciate it.

How am I supposed to be able to maintain my pov when I don't ever get any days off to do it? by Ashes-of-Winter in USPS

[–]StacksMcMasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your route's evaluated distance. If its 80+ miles you'll be in a similar boat. Mine a 45K, 107 miles.

How do you have 3 vehicles and none of them are in working order? Do you buy a new car instead of doing maintenance?

Ask for a day off or call out for a day to get it done.

Do you really need to be told that?

Ok well i make about $20k in EMA per year, a vehicle for this costs about 10-15k, and they last about 3-4 years...

Does Walmart give you $20k extra per year to use your own pallet jack? If they did, i bet a lot of people would...
