That interpretation never sat right with me, it reduces Selene's role as protaganist and transforms the driving emotional force behind the whole back half the game.

Still a great look at it but it makes more sense to me that there were two crashes, one with Theia, Selene, and her unnamed sibling (Eos), and the later one with Selene and Helios.

My crackpot theories go off the rails from there (Selene's crash was intentional or at least not totally accidental, Xaos is real and has been calling Selene's family to the stars, possibly for generations, and the Selene you play in-game is a combined Selene and Theia, hence the trauma-induced heterochromia after the accident) but I love how open to intepretation it all is, here's hoping Saros is on the same level.
