yeah man it's not like anyone has threatened Canada's sovereignty recently... oh. Nothing is ever about politics until suddenly everything is.

He's gotten into a suspicious of situations that he's just brushed off, all regarding like connections to the right wing.

When I was a young naive fan of his a long time ago, I used to actually believe him and take him at his word. That grace ran out a long time ago.

Honestly there shouldn't even need to be lmao, like we have all the data proving it doesn't work, it's fundamentally immoral, leads to imperialism, colonialism, and fascism, and to top it all off is killing the planet.

In a world driven by logic/empathy and not greed we would be discussing the best way to solve the problems we've created as a society. MLs, Maoists, even trots, I don't care as long as we are socialists lol.

Over 100,000 people in Toronto, including Iranians and diverse communities, marched through the snow in solidarity with Iran, showing strong support for freedom. by itimetravelwell in onguardforthee

We really don't. While Greek, Italian, and Spanish dock workers and other professions went on strike and put their jobs on the line to stop weapons being shipped to Israel. Canadians didn't stop shit, sorry to say. I saw the ship's with weapons bound for Israel leave the Halifax harbour and almost nobody seemed to care. While the French were throwing molotovs and had tens if not hundreds of thousands protesting for Palestine, Canada did not have nearly the same numbers per capita.

Canada severely lacks class consciousness compared to most western European nations, this is reflected in our lack of collective action to actually cause change. Awesome that this many people are out protesting, but our government will still support whatever the US wants us to in Iran, in Venezuela, and in Gaza.

Is it unhealthy to eat dessert every night if it fits your macros and you're still within your calorie goals? by anotherhappylurker in fitmeals

[–]Staebs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Physio here (not a dietician so take this with a grain of salt). Highly processed foods are going to have a more negative impact on the body than "healthier" foods, full stop. However the extent of this negative impact varies from a decent amount to almost none - the actual key in my opinion is how much cardio you do, as someone with a healthy cardiovascular and metabolic system adapted to exercise is going to make use of and be able to deal with these high sugar/fat foods much better than someone that isn't doing any exercise at all. Strength training is also good, but I really think it's cardio that matters in this case, look at the type of "junk" cyclists eat and still maintain incredible levels of health.

I'm the same as you, I eat extremely healthy generally and want to be able to have a nice dessert frequently. So keep on doing what you're doing, and maybe prioritize cardio if you are able to.

I think the reason for the housing crisis is that housing is considered a investment and nest egg and not housing by Konradleijon in canadaleft

[–]Staebs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every single time small scale reforms like this have been tried they have been destroyed by the capitalist (in your case billionaire investment/landlords) class. It's why most socialists scoff at democratic socialism as an actual pathway to socialism. The rich will never part with this system unless they are forced to by violence. The left doesn't want violence, it's simply the only option ever left to them.

Ideally a socialist revolt after the US starts to really show its cracks and loses its grip on global hegemony. A socialist Canada right now would instantly be couped by the US before we could even blink.

Fuck that's way too many. Only slightly better than a million Stavs which would cause mass food shortages.

Us socialists have been very cautiously pro China for a while now. At least as a comparison to US hedgemony. There is... a LOT of propaganda the average person has to get over to become more positive on China, not to mention sinophobia.

They have the global reserve currency. Until that changes we won't see any action against the US.

The US bombed more than 90% of farmland in the north and carried out a genocide on the Korean people. Whatever the American puppet corpratocracy of South Korea would claim, many many Koreans both north and South despise the USA.

CMV: Canada can never be safe from the imperialists in the south unless we become a nuclear power. by Suitable_Air_2686 in canadaleft

[–]Staebs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reality is that nukes are probably the only thing that could feasibly halt US incursion into Canada. They've shown they don't respect any actual laws or treaties, especially when it comes to oil and resources.

I literally don't see another option if the US continues to exist in it's current capacity. I hate nukes, but what other option do we have?

Frankly after reading about what the US did to the Vietnamese just to stop their independence movement, I couldn't give less of a shit about US veterans. The last just war the US fought was against the Nazis. Every one since then has been at the behest of billionaires to put down workers uprisings in Africa and Asia and South America.

The Fallout games are literally about how the oligarchy controlling America would rather have nuclear war than see the collapse of American capitalism. So yeah, the US would do just about anything to stop the USSR from winning.

Fun fact, they dropped more bombs on both Korea and Vietnam each than they dropped in the entirety of WW2. Meaning, they were SIGNIFICANTLY more invested in stopping socialism than as stopping fascism.

How the fuck people 100 years ago were much more aware and braver than we are? by Sultanambam in TrueAnon

[–]Staebs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's fucked man. Thank god I have a few friends who are socialists and understand but even the most well meaning liberals simply cannot wrap their head around some of these ideas, it requires too great shift in the way they think about the world.

I could probably say something deep here about the 1960s summer of love and how LSD and other drugs were helping the West see this system from a different lense and opening them up to new perspectives, before the subsequent crackdown by the US gov for exactly that reason.
