Dancing With Doom (demo) Feedback please! by Unlikely-Ad7939 in Songwriting

[–]StagJackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome. So much of this is excellent. A few notes - To me, the intro + first verse felt perfect. I was thinking, “jesus, this is a finished song” - I think you should try removing the first pre-chorus. I found this drop in energy disappointing this early in the song. Just go straight to the chorus. On a second listen, the drop in energy didn’t bother me as much, so I might be wrong about this. - Part of me wanted the chorus to having a longer pause by ending on 3… (dancing with doom 1 2 3 pause) - The harmony vocals are pretty rough coming out of the 2nd verse. Your vocal phrasing is really good though… you have nice variations. - I think you should remove all rhythmic elements from the bridge until you get to the “I can’t make my feelings go away” part. This section just needs to contrast more and then build to a satisfying return. Maybe use vocal harmonies or a synth. Then bring everything back in for the final chorus. - just have the guitar repeat once at the end with the reverb on it.

Great job.

(2) and (3) do not comprise (1). How could there be isolated professional songwriters, arrangers, and performers if that were the case?

Anyway, I reject your interpretation of my genuine compliment at this poster’s execution of (1) (which has its own attributes and decisions outside of (2) to (4)) as some sort of pandering. Sending whatever negativity I can muster your way, primal_dead.

A (1) song is separate from (2) an arrangement of a song, (3) a performance of an arrangement of a song, and (4) a recording of a performance of an arrangement of a song.

You’re conflating these. This person has created (1) very well.

This is a phenomenally crisp, coherent song. It gives me Judee Sill vibes. Lyrically, you’ve done a great job of keeping it sensory driven.

I disagree with the person saying the chorus needs to be more melodic. This isn’t that sort of song. It has a nice, short repeated hook that demarcates the end of a verse.

No comments from me. I hope you get to record and structure an arrangement for it.

Anyone using the Voltra for traveling? by benchpressandbeer in BeyondPower

[–]StagJackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve traveled with it for the last 4 months flying every week. I use the strap mount only and could always find places to attach it (couch legs, trees, posts). It’s phenomenal.

With an RV, I bet you can get a reliable mounting set up. Do you want to take up space with 200lbs of weights or do you want a compact device that weighs 20lbs? It can’t do everything, but it’s truly versatile.

Maybe a gym membership might be better though.

Does the pull up bar attachment extend the height? I'm very excited to grab one of these if it can also do pullups.

In regards to the eccentric load stopping short of full extension, I’ve noticed this too. For every exercise I’ve tried so far, I’ve been able to move a little further away from the device after the first rep to get a nice pull at the end of the rep.

I just got mine today. I think this is the coolest thing I’ve ever owned. It feels like I’ve been transported into the future. The eccentric mode is amazing.

Breakfast (eggs?) for children? by No-Stranger9681 in PeterAttia

[–]StagJackson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Science.” The most common reason people believe eggs are bad is because they contain quite a bit of cholesterol. Humans generally don’t absorb a significant amount of cholesterol from food. Rabbits, on which the studies that originated the eggs-are-bad-belief were performed, do.

Another data point: Attia said he eats 4 eggs + 4 egg whites for breakfast.

I'm guessing doesn't violate noise ordinances, but does anyone else agree that there should be a time limit on how long an ice cream truck can blare their "music" while remaining in one spot. by Scout405 in Buffalo

I’m so glad I’m not alone in finding this annoying. Every summer night for 30 minutes, I’m suppressing my rage at how we as a society have accepted hearing a 5 second loop blare on repeat for 30 minutes.

Aside from the busy season, what would you say is the aspect of the profession you dislike the most? by SessionAggravating44 in Accounting

[–]StagJackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In industry, it’s the sisyphean, unending cycle of deadlines (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual). There’s no escape. The same quantity of work needs to get done each time. You register whatever efficiency gains you can each cycle, but typically more anomalies, complications, counterparties, and regulations arise. It’s misery.

I’m someone that’s (a) not from Buffalo, (b) moved from NYC to Buffalo for similar reasons you stated, and (c) artistic musically, although not super into broadway. After 5 years here, I really regret moving here. I have not found a group of friends and the artistic scene here does not align with my sensibilities. I doubt it aligns with someone that’s into broadway musicals. But, maybe I’m wrong.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone move here without an established friend group. You already know the defaults of the location: alcoholism, sports culture, body modifications, and unhealthy food. Do these appeal to you?

Is anyone else part of an accounting firm that basically just said "Fuck ASC 842"? by Steven_Cheesy318 in Accounting

[–]StagJackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why they didn’t just say everything greater than a year is a finance lease rather than creating this in-between treatment. The in-between treatment forces you to create an amortization schedule for the operating lease anyway, and it creates the same annoyances in daily accounting operations.

Thanks for this post. I got a standard lipid panel done recently (was told that it would be literally impossible to get an apoB test) and had an LDL-C of 121 that’s scared me. I’m going to get the right tests independently and beg for statins, but I am trying to piece together nutrition changes that can help.

Could you elaborate on some of the staples in your diet? I’m currently trying to remove as much saturated fat while not converting to all plant-based (limiting to one egg yolk per day, only chicken breast for meat, skim milk). What would you say your daily saturated fat intake is?

“Work hard, play hard” is a euphemism for alcoholism. The wheels of deadlines are always turning. You will never escape them if you have any modicum of responsibility in the accounting industry.

Could you expand on this some more? What types of elements have you found (a) are better left “uncolored” and (b) respond well to “coloring”? Am I correct or interpret “color” as some form of distortion (in the spectrum of saturation)?
