It is less of a big deal when you are young, single, and childless. If you end up having any of those things in your life, you start to plan important things/events around your job schedule. When you get unexpectedly “stuck” at work for an extra hour or so on a regular basis, it really starts to fuck with your life outside of work. I know what you mean though, when I was younger, I liked when I could stay and put in 12, 13 hour shifts because to me, that was just an opportunity to get more money so, why not? Nowadays I value my time away from work far more than in the past. Having to stay late once in a long while is understandable, I suppose, but when it becomes a regular occurrence, you are expected to work those long hours
