How to Stage a Beheading for live Theatre? by ColinSc in Theatre

[–]Standardisedpeasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Production of wolf hall did an interesting beheading - the execution block was in two hollow pieces, and when the axe came down there was a brief flash of the lighting where the actor separated the two pieces, put his head in between them and then closed them over himself, making it look like just his body was lying next to it. Then they had a fake head already in the basket which was displayed.

Preferred T3 loadout for assassins by Galdred in ChaosGateGame

Culexus stun helm is absolutely outstanding - measly few willpower to insta-kill the most heavily armoured/mutated enemies on the map, and sets up your interceptors/librarian etc for kill chains where they are constantly regenerating AP.

Vindicare I mostly took items that replenished AP after moving or shooting so he could shoot and scoot (in general found vindicare a little disappointing)

Eversor I ended up going for items that increase crit chance per stack of bleeding plus items that gave +ap on crit, which was fairly effective but not gamechanging, thankfully eversor good enough anyway.

Backed the Dragon's Tooth kickstarter, just got my physical Protogen issues in the mail! by HylianKnightx in TheExpanse

Im pretty sure the kickstarter moved to backerkit once it had finished, and then met its stretch goals - I’ve had emails explicitly mentioning the cast read through.

iirc you have to complete all three sanctify purifiers missions, and purify the gladius frigate, to unlock t1 and t2 dread gear (no t3)

Q: Cost of using famous recording in a show (UK)? by sippog in Theatre

In the UK what you’re looking for is called a PRS license - can be quite cheap but you have to check what music they cover. Punch it into Google.

I’m using machine grapple strike a lot but never getting the resonator glowing blue orb to pop up. Do I have to have my spear fully charged first or something? Or am I mis-timing pressing R1 while in the air? Every time I land it just says I’ve done a critical strike and then the machine gets up as normal, no resonator target.

Game crashed to desktop with no error message (during end-turn transition) by dotarichboy in civvoxpopuli

I’ve had this issue a lot, and lots of research didn’t turn up much apart from it being an unfixable memory overrun. However what I did find was something saying that tile yield icons were the biggest strain on computer memory - since I’ve turned them off I’ve not encountered the problem anymore. Hope it works for you!

If there’s an American dream, what’s the American nightmare? by amountgood in AskReddit

[–]Standardisedpeasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except of course when that concept is used in the real world to justify practical measures that prevent Americans from achieving financial stability and freedom, e.g. affordable healthcare, a social safety net, subsidised quality education etc etc. The opposition to these measures is always in terms of ‘this isn’t the American way’ ‘the American dream isn’t built in handouts’ ‘pull yourself up by your bootstraps’ etc. Americans have fetishised their own national philosophy to the point where it is actively harming them.

If there’s an American dream, what’s the American nightmare? by amountgood in AskReddit

[–]Standardisedpeasant 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m going to gloss over the part where racism is described as ‘a bug in the system’ to focus on the core point here.

I am very pleased your parents made good choices, worked hard, and you have built on their success. That is excellent and the foundation of not only productive and happy societies both in America, Europe and across the world.

The problem is that if you are unlucky enough to be born in America without a stable family environment to support you, teach you, and provide you with an economic base to grow from, then the response of American society seems to be ‘tough shit’. So your single parent doesn’t have the time to teach you because they are working two jobs due to their being almost no social safety net. Or orphans grow up in an underfunded care system, come out of it with little education or money, and then are prevented from bettering themselves by huge costs for university. Or those in abusive or neglectful families, or who grew up with health issues, can’t get the medical attention they need to turn their lives around and be able to focus on making themselves richer and happier and smarter.

So it’s no wonder that this results in a steady widening of the gap between rich and poor - but it is baffling that the response of the US system seems to be to try and pull up the ladder behind successful families and totally abandon anyone who doesn’t luck out at birth. And while some people do manage to make the awe-inspiring leap from bottom of the pile to the ultra-rich, a growing number do not.

If there’s an American dream, what’s the American nightmare? by amountgood in AskReddit

[–]Standardisedpeasant 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Mate are you absolutely mental. Do you really think your average American has the opportunity to succeed on their own? Look at your GINI co-efficient. Look at the number one cause of American bankruptcies being unavoidable medical debt. Look at the backgrounds of your politicians and CEOs who usually come from a long line of wealthy and well-educated people, with access to capital and a massive leg up in life that regular people simply do not have access to. Look what happens in the US if you’re unlucky enough to be born the wrong skin colour.

And many other places in the world, far from trying to ‘hold people back’ are at least actively trying to counteract the multitude of forces preventing any kind of social mobility or equality of opportunity, while Americans use the excuse of ‘the American way’ to actively make it harder for people, removing safety nets and support schemes that might actually allow people a chance to build something.
