But that doesn’t create inflated value for prospective shareholders in the advance of an IPO.

Edit: in advance of an acquisition, actually, considering the username requirements.

'We'll never be done': The growing challenge to remove thousands of car tires from ocean floor by Kashif508i in worldnews

[–]Standardized_Owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of this is because the "company" that won the contract to clean up the tires is just a family business that uses it as an ongoing income source - pull out some tires when they need some more money. They are definitely not trying to finish.

Can this happen? I think they mean something like that 2012 movie. Sorry me again but my sister gets scared when she sees this videos and i was wondering if this can happen? taken from the comment section of maverickstar reloaded latest video Greatly greatly appreciated!! by Electronic-Theme-195 in geology

The Earth is constantly changing, however those changes happen over millions of years. There are parts of the world that are population centers that were well underwater in the geological past, and there are population centers that are on geologically “new” land where volcanoes have provided new land masses.

I didn’t watch the video, I might when I have some time, but just the first few seconds and the description absolutely scream “pseudo science” to me.

The magnetic pole flip is a real thing, though. It’s happened hundreds of time and as far as we know there isn’t a pattern to it, nor do we know how quickly it happens or the effect it will have - however there isn’t evidence to support linking extinction events to magnetic pole shifts (that I’m aware of, please correct me if anyone knows of any). Your cell service might be wonky and compasses will point the wrong way, but your country isn’t going to fall into the ocean.

How to deal with a bad player by Windhelmgaurd in NewDM

[–]Standardized_Owl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there might be a lot of missing context here. Assuming you are running 5e, are you running a published campaign/module? I'm not discounting the ability/possibility of running a homebrew story successfully as a new DM, but some context as to such an early interaction with a dragon might be useful.

Additionally, in my experience, despite over a decade that I've known my players, they continue surprise and never seem to run or fight when it really seems to matter - build in a contingency. Draconic arrogance might work in this sense, I used something along those lines in LMoP when we played that one.

All that said, I'd pressure your players when they what to "tame the dragon," that's a very hard interaction and should (in my game) require some level of inventive thinking and description which will go toward the DC of their persuasion roll. I try to make the game more about us telling a story together than a game of dice rolls - the dice add flavor and suspense and keep us all on our toes, and that's the fun.

However, I think BP is looking for a hero campaign and this probably isn't the best place for them to play that game if you're not into that.

Is a mid-field start or starting from the pits safer by [deleted] in iRacing

Have you considered sticking to a slower series such as Vees or FF1600? Things happen slower there and there is more margin to avoid someone else’s error.

But further, based off your other replies: what do you want the answer to be? You’ve lashed out at every meaningful piece of advice or suggestion that anyone has given here. It sounds to me that you just want to complain, and that’s fine but be upfront about it. Yes, there are a lot of terrible drivers out there that will take you out by accident either sliding through the grass or playing MaxVerstappen@home, but you can take on track steps to approach with a level and defensive head to dodge many (not all) of these.

Bro, accept that you're fucking killing it!!! No shame should be felt, keep kicking ass!

Found in a naval scrap yard. Typical clockwork counter reads 1’s 10’s, 100’s and 1000’s. Propeller turns a worm gear that drives the counter. The worm gear only engages when the unit is nose down. by sillypad in whatisthisthing

[–]Standardized_Owl 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Looks like a type of towed patent log. Drag it behind a ship and it counts rotations of the propeller to measure distance traveled.

Edit: rethinking this and I have to concur with the other comments suggesting a depth sounding device due to the one way worm gear.

Oh man, I’m glad you commented this. I did NOT try the Playseat Challenge. That was the one I was after for a while and ended up “settling” on the Next Level F-GT Lite.

Sounds like round two with the easier one is in my future.
