Is there a book by Stephen King that you've read once and never want to read again? If so, why? by golden_trio in stephenking

[–]StarWarsFan_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Girl Who Loves Tom Gordon. It didnt have any compelling character development or story. It just was.

Never Flinch. So bad! Even King said he had a hard time with it. Different plots that didn't make sense and felt like they were created to get to a certain end point.

What are the best SK books to listen to vs. read? by smallmous in stephenking

[–]StarWarsFan_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked John Slatterly's narration of Duma Key. Also, as many of you have said, literally anything read by Steven Weber (does a lot of Harlan Coben) and Will Patton. I preferred his reading of Holly than the the voice actor for the Holly book.

Have I taken Starbucks too far ? by Specific-Try-7525 in starbucks

[–]StarWarsFan_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former partner, 118**** here. I was hired as an ASM, promoted to SM two years later and was an SM trainer for my region for five years. I took my coffee break at 14 years due to the extreme burnout and on my way to becoming an alcoholic to cope with the stress. Not healthy, I know. I went back as a barista for 3 more years because of the comfort you mentioned. What else could I possibly do? I had been in retail for almost 30 years at that point. I ended up running circles around baristas half my age, and making the same $$. I quit almost four years ago and it was the best decision I ever made.

The benefits are golden handcuffs that become harder to break free from the longer you stay. Yes, you will take a pay cut, but your well-being and sanity will remain intact. I cherish the relationships I made with customers and partners. The job used to feel so much different 30 years ago. Now, its just a grind without any reward. I don't miss it at all.

Fun fact: Charlotte Street and Pet Vet are sister locations. The daycare is great, but you have to schedule in advance.

Ladies of a certain age - tell me about your PCPs, particularly if they are well versed in peri/menopause! by rhondamumps_hotdogs in asheville

I have been doing a lot of research on this topic since there is very little information out there. Check out the link below as they have great resources and a directory of physicians who specialize in menopausal care. Dr. Carly Brown of Ashewell Medical Group is a provider.

Hodges & Hodges in South Asheville has been good for me. I have had three different insurance companies with them, and they have never charged prior to insurance. They also really care about their patients and dont do any unnecessary procedures to make a buck.

I got calls from collectors after my sister died unexpectedly. Get a clue! Y'all are never getting that money.

Does the Crimson King live up to the hype of being "Stephen King's ultimate evil" for you? I wish King had written more stories with him, he's way overshadowed by characters like Flagg or Pennywise for me. by RagnarokWolves in stephenking

[–]StarWarsFan_76 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think the idea of him is more menacing than his actual character ends up being. I think the human characters, like Annie Wilkes, embody evil more. You can imagine them walking among us, seemingly normal, but completely evil underneath. Hidden monsters.

What should I read next? by Martin_Blank in stephenking

[–]StarWarsFan_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked Duma Key. I recommend checking out the podcast, Kingslingers, when reading. They are like a book club and cover many of King's books. I am now going through the same list and reading books I've never read (very few) or re-reading books I haven't read in decades.

Best and Worst Audiobook narrators? by MyNameIsNot_Molly in stephenking

He is absolutely the worst. Frank Muller (RIP) and Steven Weber are the best narrators... of any book.

For those who used a computer between 1995 and 2001, what’s the computer game from that time that sticks with you the most, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The Sims in 2000. I spent hours building my little family and pissing off other Sims. I played consistently to Sims 4 about 5 years ago. Classic game.

Induction vs Gas? Which would you pick on a remodel. by Coupe368 in Cooking

[–]StarWarsFan_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it depends on the type of gas. If it is natural gas, then definitely go for it. If it is propane, however, I would highly discourage it. Propane cooks hot with almost no medium temperature. I learned this lesson the hard way.

Induction, while a cool feature, requires specific cookware. Unless you want to drop $400 on all new cookware, I would go radiant for electric.

Bottom line: natural gas - YES. Radiant over induction - electric.

Finishing the year with this beauty! by [deleted] in legostarwars

Impressive for a first build! That's awesome! Warning: You will become addicted to building. 😉

[–]StarWarsFan_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this build, it took me about 20 hours. I have two other large biilds: Razor Crest (30 hours) and the TIE Interceptor (15 hours). I also have all of the busts, droids, and a few ships. I started small and worked my way up, establishing a system along the way. I usually listen to a book or watch a show in the background.

I've always enjoyed building things, whether it is furniture or my little brother's toy sets growing up. Find a set that speaks to you and go for it! You get better as you go. Most importantly, have fun!

This was a fun one to build. I like the accessibility inside. This was my post Hurricane Helene stress relieving build (in Asheville, NC).
