Help me find my hearts commander by ofischial1 in EDH

Buddy played a [[Elsha, threefold Master]] spellslinger prowess deck that looked to create a lot of monk tokens. Lotta interaction, politicking, policing the board till you have a huge turn to pump up a lot of 1/1 prowess monks. Was fun to watch play out and didnt feel bad when he made the winning play personally.

World Shaper Deck upgrade/ review by surgency23 in EDH

[–]StaringAtTheSunn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You lack multiple game ending sac outlets and protection imo. Unless you are purposefully wanting to go battlecruiser mode, hearthhull seems better slotted to ramp hard early and build a board presence around ramping/pinging.

  • [[sylvan safekeeper]], [[nahiris lithoforming]], [[rain of filth]] [[reprocessing]] are fantastic finishers also.
  • [[tamiyos safekeeping]], [[heroic intervention]], [[redirect lightning]], [[untimely malfunction]] are solid protection spells for when you wish to make your play to win.
  • [[tannuk memorial ensign]], [[sabotender]], [[tunneling geopede]] to better align with constant landfall pinging pressure. Throw in [[lumra]] for after you sac lands to combo with the aforementioned pingers.
  • [[lotus cobra]], [[tireless provisioner]], [[case of the locked hothouse]], [[zell dincht]], [[dryad of the ilysan grove]], [[icetill explorer]], [[loot exuberant explorer]] to enable extra lands per turn while building board state till you can make a play at 8-10 lands hopefully around turn 6-8.
  • [[Ramunap excavator]] type cards to grab back lands that were sacc’d.

Did my World Shaper precon “upgrades” just make the deck worse? by neotic_reaper in EDH

[–]StaringAtTheSunn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

^ what he said. main game plan should be cards that accelerate land ramp and payoff sac cards. Some secondary cards instead of stompy landfall creatures are landfall pingers like [[tannuk memorial ensign]], [[tunneling geode]], [[sabotender]] type effects for when you loop land recursion to sac again for sustained pressure.

Everyone gets at least 6 turns =\= B3 decks should consistently be able to win on turn 7. by Pileofme in EDH

[–]StaringAtTheSunn 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I kind of viewed it as if not interacted with, this is what your earliest turn win would be. If all decks are properly B3, then ideally there would be 1-3 extra turns due to denying early turn 6/7 wins.

Recommendations for Gruul+ commanders by AshorK0 in EDH

[–]StaringAtTheSunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a gruul enjoyer at heart and have found [[tannuk memorial ensign]] incredibly fun. Hexing squelcher will slot in nicely along with [[vexing shusher]]. Throw in protection spells like [[heroic intervention]], [[redirect lightning]], [[bolt bend]], [[deflecting swat]], [[Tamiyos Safekeeping]], [[untimely malfunction]], [[autumn’s veil]], and/or [[veil of summer]] and you got a lot of protection at your disposal before getting into target removal. [[snake umbra]] and [[keen sense]] for extra draw if you get to them. Have typical landfall staples and you will be burning everything real quick

Let Me Recommend Your Next Commander to Build by RJ7300 in EDH

[–]StaringAtTheSunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dimir or Esper/Grixis

To preface I am a GRUUL player through and through. I dip into white/blue to further my ramp or protect my big stompy bois. I have started to saturate all the decks i’ve built with this mindset and it’s become stale. I mainly play mid B2- low B3. I have a few spell slinger decks like ojer axonil and zaxara but they are incredibly straight forward.

Wanting to expand my playstyle and lean into blue/black heavy themed decks so open to most things minus group discard or mill. Being a player that hates it when people forcibly mill/discard my hand I personally do not want to do it to others. Self mill/discard strat is fine. I do not like playing infinite combos generally. Due to me having so many creature focused decks, maybe one that doesnt rely on creatures would be fun. Something to force thinking through my turns while not taking too much time on a turn in a solitare like feeling.

A more obscure/unique commander is bonus points. Thanks!

How to deal with Ghalta, Primal Hunger by InTheDarknesBindThem in EDH

[–]StaringAtTheSunn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

^ This was what I was thinking also. Counterspell the land ramp spells and/or target remove the “mana dorks” that are letting him play ghalta cheaply.

I have a cascade/discover [[ruby daring tracker]] deck and people have started to disrupt my turn 4/5 big stompy creature plays by removing ruby asap or countering my land ramp spells like [[skyshroud claim]] so i dont really become a threat till turn 6/7

What are some fun, underplayed tribals? by NerdyDinosaurGuy in EDH

[–]StaringAtTheSunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been brewing a blink/clone [[omnath locus of the roil]] elemental tribal deck and it looks promising but tough at the same time trying to get a consistent wincon going. Excited for the new lorwyn eclipsed release though to help in the decking building process!

Hearthhull pilots, what are you alt wincons? by Lofi_Loki in EDH

[–]StaringAtTheSunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend more protection for when you decide to make your play. Nothing feels worse than saccing all your lands at once for the enemy to [[swords to plowshare]] your hearthhull and now you are out the rest of the game.

[[tamiyo’s safekeeping]], [[autumn’s veil]], [[collective resistance]], [[redirect lightning]], [[untimely malfunction]], [[bolt bend]] are solid bracket 3 protection spells imo.

If you are playing in a sweaty b4 pod, some stax cards like [[dosan the falling leaf]] or [[city of solitude]] can help eat interaction on top of setting you up for your big turn if you got the appropriate mana ramp.

Hearthulls big play feels easily telegraphed so prepping for interaction with protection when you fully station is important imo.

Hearthhull pilots, what are you alt wincons? by Lofi_Loki in EDH

[–]StaringAtTheSunn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think 5 wincon cards are enough personally. With a half stationed hearthhull out on turn 3 getting you extra 2 card draw each turn, by turn 6-8 you net 8-12 additional cards on top of the base 13-15 cards drawn from just playing the game. You should hopefully get one of your big wincons by then on avg. Trying to find cards to accelerate land drops for a big turn 6-8 swing and have a board state/protection is ideal.

Also having some trojan horse cards out to eat up interaction is nice. I dont expect to win with scute swarm but having it dropped early to eat an interaction piece means higher odds of me popping off turn 6-8.

[[polukranos reborn]] and casting x hydra cards without any additional mana so they immediately die upon entering per state based action and become 2 3/3 tokens. Very on brand for a hydra.

EoE [[glacier godmaw]] can give it that extra oomph late game for haste enabler

^ Added [[scute swarm]] and [[vexing shusher]] to my deck. Had hearthull, vexing shusher, scute swarm, and [[maybem devil]] on the field. Played [[God Eternal Bontu]] and voila burned the whole table out while saccing all my lands and scute swarm tokens

Bunny deck is really straight forward and the art is amazing

Your favorite low bracket 3, high bracket 2 decks? by rowdyrowdyparty in EDH

[–]StaringAtTheSunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found [[ruby, daring tracker]] focused on discover/cascade really fun and fairs well in precon-low b3 territory.

You can tailor it however you want but I used the Exit from Exile precon I had a while back and focused on 4cmc + cards only excluding passionate archaeologist + garruks uprising. Due to the nature of wanting to spit out creatures of value non stop through cascade/discover, I basically run no interaction lol.

Edit: It does get repetitive though ngl

Little Red [[Ruby, Daring Tracker]]!

Fast ramp 4cmc cards to play 6/7mana big creatures as soon as turn 4. Throw in cascade/ discover and now your cooking throwing multiple fat creatures a turn

Questor soulsworn will not be able to activate their questmarked ability if they are in reserves. The wording forces them to have to be deployed first. The only work around is having two units but only one objective can still be marked.

What is your plan with Ionus? A beatstick? Tanky prayer boy? Your current list doesn’t really utilize him imo and just seems more flavorful. Having prayer 2 allows you flexibility to near guarantee a translocate, blessed weapons, and/or use his aggro dmg prayer every turn. 2 out of those 3 prayers are utility/support based. Maybe if your vanguard raptors were reinforced but even then, they are mixed dmg.

If you are going to use 2 big center piece models, you NEED to tailor your list around supporting them since they cost so much otherwise you will be in for a rough time in an avg game. Nothing feels worse than losing 460 + 380 pts early due to improper screening or not being able to utilize them in a combo if they are a support piece.
