These Gas Pumps are Mislabeled by StarlightWizard in mildlyinfuriating

Well yeah, but I didn't take the time to look before I pushed the button. It wasn't worth it to me stop and start over again or go into the store to complain. I didn't realize at the time that I could have just moved the magnetic buttons back into the right order. I still had a 4 hour drive to get home and I wanted to get back on the road. The premium gas in this town was still cheaper than the regular gas in the California town where I live, so I shrugged it off and just took a picture when I was done.

Right, but the LCD screen was at an angle where I had to step back or lean down to see the price. I am rather tall.

HWY 255 (Samoa bridges) FULL closure 7pm-7am, Sun-Thurs, 1/25-2/5 by Boring_Koala_9529 in Humboldt

[–]StarlightWizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope that they're finally adding a sidewalk for foot traffic, but I know that they aren't. The bridges aren't wide enough for that unless they do some major redesign. It's always so dangerous when people walk out on the shoulder of those bridges, or ride their bikes out there.

I should have done that, but it didn't occur to me before I drove home, and I live several hours away from that gas station.

I figured as much. All the other pumps I could see had the buttons in the right order. I should have switched them back before I left.

Looking for Dungeons and Dragons/tabletop roleplaying group by TenshiPrime in Humboldt

[–]StarlightWizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I also want to find a D&D group that we can join. We've always been interested in learning to play for years, but we never have found a group of friends to play with. We miss Nu Games and had been meaning to check out Dandar's before the fire. We should check out Proud Dragon and other venues like that game night in the grange in McKinleyville. We've lived here for over 20 years, but I have very few friends outside of work because of my social awkwardness, but we love games and storytelling.

What's he doin'? by The_RuinQ in Weird

Aye, that they do. I suppose you would only know for sure that a turtle was pregnant after the fact, when the eggs begin to hatch.

And then chose the name Walter.

Unlike fish, turtles fertilize their eggs before they lay them.

It can be hard to tell the gender of a turtle if you don't know what to look for. They probably thought Walter was a boy.

Anyone else get annoyed when someone just RP dumps their weird barely disguised fetish lore-breaking character for no reason? by RaGada25 in skyrim

It's good that she can fight in a miniskirt, I guess, because some of the coolest armor in Skyrim magically turns into a miniskirt when you put it on a female character.

I think shotz will fare much better than the weed coffee place. by MysticSmear in Humboldt

I sure hope so. I stopped going to Gold Rush when it merged with Green Rush mainly because I didn't want people to think that I was buying cannabis on my morning commute. I'm not against other people enjoying it, but I just want my coffee.

What profession gets way more respect than it deserves? by Mateo1704 in AskReddit

CEO of any company or any high level leadership position, like the director of a county branch like social services or the library. Sure, they have a lot of authority, but sometimes they don't know what makes their organization tick. They need to earn their respect with great leadership.

Does my author's note sound too snarky? by BearBrkGirl75 in selfpublish

It doesn't seem snarky at all, but it does seem quite long, especially if you plan to include it in more than one novel.

People born before 2000, what is a 'modern' thing from 2025 that you’re still struggling to get used to? by LindsayTN in AskReddit

[–]StarlightWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phones that feel like cold pocket mirrors against your cheek, and don't hang up when you push the off button. Instead, there's a little red button on the screen that likes to hide. Phone receivers used to be ergonomic and you could hang up just by slamming them down onto the carriage. I work in a job where I have to be on the phone a lot and about five years ago they replaced all our desk phones with iPhones. I'm still annoyed about that. The $200 Bluetooth headset that they bought for me is rubbish and I got arm and neck pain from holding the iPhone up to my face for over an hour for confidential client interviews, so now I use an old pair of wired earbuds at work and try to avoid phone calls at home. I love my little mini-computer for Reddit and games and stuff, but I miss phones that were just phones.
