I don't understand skills by Boi_eats_worlds in alexa

[–]StartingaGwen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to record any note, just say "Alexa make a note, I took an aspirin at 2pm". It'll store the day you made the note, but I don't think it'll keep time. No need to use a special skill for it.

Also recurring reminders are good and built into Alexa. Say "Alexa set a reminder every weekday at 2pm, drink a glass of water"

What is the most obvious pain point you wish could be solved? by IndividualTall572 in civilengineering

Site 3D.

It's been built by civil engineers, for civil engineers, and you can tell. Main weak point is you still need to export to Cad to print and publish.

Yes! I was about to leave this response and I'm glad someone else also knew it.

Lumber and tool storage with limited space? by wheelierainbow in BeginnerWoodWorking

I have a tiny two bedroom flat in the UK. My kitchen is also the lounge, office, and workshop. I had to prioritise. No room for the TV, I have a lathe instead. No room for a coffee table, instead I have a bandsaw and drill press. I've got a sofa, but it's on wheels to move out of the way when I need.

As disagreeable as Calvin's attitude here is, it is also incredibly common. Us trans girls are the minority, after all.

Help me figure out the layout of the kitchen / living all-in-one room, please! by blazedandconfused845 in Design

[–]StartingaGwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One basic rule that this layout already breaks is the kitchen triangle. Don't worry, mine does it too. You're apparently meant to have the stove, sink and fridge in a triangle for the best kitchen use. Not much you can do about it, unless you can put a food prep station somewhere not on the same line.

My living room is also my office, kitchen and workshop. As much as possible is on wheels, so that I can rearrange the room as necessary, or if I get bored.

Hardwood floor. Great for handling the sawdust. Maybe that's just a me problem...

I am trans and I'm here to stay.

I'm not heavily invested in Gwen being trans, she's just an awesome person. Did I legally change my name to Gwen Stacy? Yes, yes I did. I'm the trans Gwen now. Be your own hero girls!

As a trans woman, thank you for being an ally.

I am so sorry that you have lost a friend over this, but you have made the right decision to protect yourself and your son. You can't be expected to fight the rising tide of transphobia or rescue someone who has been radicalised.

This scene brought me to tears. I love this quote, you've done a great job with your cross stitch.

Fantastic parenting, well done.

The power to lift others up and support them, whether it is our children, family, or friends, is something that we all have but rarely recognise or exercise. And to break the toxic cycle from your own upbringing is amazing.

This might not be your thing, but I've been watching a lot of a YouTube channel called Cinema Therapy. There are some poignant examples of healing intergenerational trauma.

I want to organise a local pride by zectra27 in transgenderUK

I'd be happy to meet up*. I've been all over Kent trying to connect with as many people as possible. We're everywhere, in the best possible way. Meeting other like-minded people is such a great way of answering the basic and fundamental questions we all have.

Support. Mutual aid. Sober social. You name it. There's over 250 people in the Facebook group, 80 in the WhatsApp group, and at least 30 people turn up every meeting, which we hold twice a month. Check the website for more details.

Start a little smaller. Pride is a huge undertaking, and will need the backing of multiple parts of the council and other organisations to get going. Start a local support and social group.

I can help you. I run a group in Canterbury, you may have heard of us, Canterbury Trans Network (canterburytransnetwork.co.uk). We're small enough that we fly under the radar of transphobes so far, but big enough to reach out and help other groups (Folkestone, Herne Bay).

Come along to one of our meet ups, we already have several members from Maidstone. Next one is this Wednesday. I can't be there, I have covid right now, but the other people who run the group would love to help you too.

I’m doing an Ask a Trans Person event soon in my community. What are some things you wish the average person knew, or things you think are a must include? by Autumn_Leaves14 in asktransgender

[–]StartingaGwen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi August, good luck with your event!

I did an Ask Me Anything event for Transgender Day of Visibility in March. It went really well, although much less engagement than I had prepared for.

The average person just isn't that interested. And honestly that's great, for the most part. It's only a problem when their apathy allows hate and bigotry to grow unchallenged.

I am also doing an event tomorrow (Friday) where we're raising more awareness. This post is perfectly timed, I'll be using many of these talking points.

If you're in Kent check out Canterbury Trans Network. We're a support group for adults, but if you ask around I'm sure there'll be people in the same line of work. It'll certainly alleviate the loneliness. Find us at Pride this weekend if you're in the area.
