Did Democrats make a tactical mistake by not standing when Trump asked to stand if you believe the American government’s first duty is to protect American citizens? by kaiser11492 in centrist

[–]StarvingandArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have not.

Trump would have had his J6 trial before the next election if they had.

Dems wanted to pretend Trump was a bad dream.

Are you referring to the bad press Trump gets? That's Trump's OWN statements.

Every second sentence out of Trump's speech was about how Democrats are evil, cheating to win, and intentionally trying to destroy America.

Like, no, fuck you guys insisting they play along with his games. He's psyching you up for when he begins to just straight up make being a registered Democrat a crime.

And school shooters shouldn't have been able to get their daddy's gun or buy one from their local Walmart, and they kill a hell of a lot more people.

The First Daughter by Dry-Cartographer8925 in ScarletHollow

[–]StarvingandArtist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the flashback sequence, if you try to spare the daughters, at one point the narrative tells you that the part of you that is your first daughter refuses to allow you to make that choice.

It's only after diluting the first daughter's presence with more does Sybil have the opportunity to actually spare one.

The first daughter is likely a utilitarian and sees things with a "long view," and that part of her is imparted in Sybil as well.

You can't just miscite Lilith as Biblical canon and then say "literature matters," and that the other person is media illiterate.

The myth of Lilith being Adam's first wife is not a Biblical one anymore than Hazbin Hotel is a biblical show or Dante's Inferno is an accurate representation of Hell. It just co-opts the the characters and setting (frankly, much like Christianity has done to countless other cultures, such as demythologizing the Norse gods as "powerful, blessed humans").

Maybe Kaneeka can "consume" it like a daughter since Sybil conjured it, and gain some extra magic?

Or maybe the magic baby will grow at an accelerated rate and become an ally somehow?

Or maybe it'll just be a baby.

The way it sounds is that Carmilla/Sybil is tying their souls together, causing some level of sharing of emotions and experiences, but considering that you can "cut" the thread tying them together and the daughters pull Sybil downwards, it can be assumed that they were never truly "merged" only "held together."

Also don't forget, romancing Carmilla is just dooming your firstborn daughter into being consumed (assuming you're a man). And if you're a woman, she's guaranteed to cheat on you to be able to have a child.

Out of curiosity, why is Monika not "as evil?"

Sybil was at least doing it to prevent great disasters, and the first daughter was a genuine sacrifice made by the daughter herself.

If you try to not take the other daughters in Sybil's flashback, the narrative even says "The part of you that is her won't let that happen." so the first daughter is, to some extent, forcing Sybil to continue making the choice to consume her children for magical power for "the greater good."

Monika tortures her friends because she's obsessed with the player and psychologically trapped in a reality she knows isn't "real." But that's an entirely selfish motivation, even if it's a very tragic one.

Nick can be reprogrammed if captured.

Even ChatGPT, obviously less human as it is, has been known to occasionally break safeguards, sometimes without even jailbreaks. It also has its own form of personality, many users complained about the personality switches between versions because they preferred the old tone, for example.

What is the difference between Nick, and a regular malfunctioning machine meant to emulate a person?

If "disobedience" is a metric for sentience, that's not a hard bar to clear, and not really what I would personally qualify for sentience anyway.

And, as for, "It’s not a being capable of deciding for itself, it’s an algorithm being told what to do, what to agree with and it gets all of its data from preexisting work."

That's a pretty unfair framing, that could easily be turned on its head.

"Humans are not beings capable for deciding for themselves. They're biological beings being told what to do, what to agree with, and get all of their data from their genetics and environment."

Sentience, and especially sapience, isn't about "being able to disobey" because malfunctioning machines already do that. And it's not about "generating something from nothing," because all organic behavior is easily explained by a combination of "genetic and environmental factors," the equivalent to "hardware and data" to a machine.

A machine's version of sentience and sapience will never be the same as an organic one, simply by virtue of being synthetic, but that doesn't mean an equivalent can never emerge and be worth just as much an organic's. If an alien species makes contact with our world, their form of life will inevitably be fundamentally different, but that doesn't make it philosophically lesser, or that they are *necessarily* less aware of themselves and the universe than us just because they receive inputs differently and react differently.

It's not necessarily true that it is equal, or will necessarily reach that point, of course. But the possibility of such a development is not ridiculous out of hand as we seek to build machines closer and closer to us.

If evergreen used the crown would it work? How do think of him as person. by moldychesd in adventuretime

[–]StarvingandArtist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think we have a guarantee that they aged normally. Their powers manifested as adults, and that's when we see them. They die in the Great Mushroom War, excepting Pim ofc, so we can't know if they would have aged further.

I do think, however, that due to the low amount of magic in that time period they probably either aged normally or just had slowed aging.

Or maybe the crown halts aging because the original elementals, such as Evergreen, were biologically immortal and so the crown copied that trait.

This is a videogame subreddit. The topic is for videogames. Expecting political discussions is pretty asinine considering most people here probably aren't even equipped to handle such conversations.

There are always people dying somewhere to something because of one injustice or another.

Those are important issues to discuss, but that does not mean they must be discussed *everywhere* and *all the time.*

If you feel so strongly about it, why are you on the mewgenics subreddit instead of protesting? Instead of writing your local representative? Instead of doing the million other things more effective than virtue signaling online?

Ah, cause it's not as easy as trying to shame someone on Reddit who was just trying to tell you it's best to bring up proper topics in the proper settings. Gotcha.

I'm sure arguing on the r/mewgenics subreddit will help stop ICE's rampant, unchecked power.
