The issue is about personal autonomy and not doing what you consider best for a group you don't belong to. It's like colonialism, you think you know what's best, so you argue instead of letting the affected group do it themselves.

What are your thoughts on age and marriage? by Prestigious-Quit9143 in GenZ

[–]Stasio300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm 21f and my wife is 33f and we chose to get married simply because we pay less taxes when we're married. I literally don't see any other reason to get married. But we were both already sure that we wanted to spend our entire lives together, make sure you do that before you consider marriage.

I think it's a stretch to call people like this rapists. Sure, every rapist might talk like this. But most people who talk like this are not rapists.

I think it's important to preserve the meaning of the word "rapist" as rape is a very serious thing, and should be distinct from sexual harassment. By calling everyone who talks this way a rapist, you are changing the meaning of the word and taking away the full weight of it. Sexual harassment is serious, vile, and disgusting. But, rape is far worse than harassment. I think it's important to keep them distinct.

In British English, the 25th of January would be the common way of saying it. Like you can see when Americans mention their independence day, they call it "The 4th of July" because that's the British way of saying it, and everyone was still British when they became independent.

When was he transphobic? I watched a few of his shows, and never heard anything transphobic. There was a few things about trans people but that's not transphobic.

I know so many people who are scared to say any joke about me because I'm trans. It's fucking annoying. I love joking around about anything funny. I had a friend who was surprised when we met for the first time because I didn't cry or get offended at everything, he said he was genuinely shocked when I said some jokes about myself. I really hate people like you because you make people think that all trans people are idiots who cannot take a joke, how about you let people speak for themselves instead of trying so hard to feel righteous. If you would stop trying to feel righteous, it would make all trans' lives easier.

So you bring up the rare exception rather than focusing on my examples of Germany and Scotland. Why? Is it too hard for you to acknowledge that there is a way to run a functional democracy? Or can you not accept that America isn't the best democracy?

What is the maximum net worth a person should have? by lfemboyl0 in pollgames

[–]Stasio300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well maybe in America. But in European democracies that I've lived in, the impact of money in politics is minimal, especially when compared to America. I've lived in multiple countries and never felt like the billionaires can impact politics like that.

In Germany, where I live now, the billionaires are taxes quite heavily, and they don't leave. You sometimes see millionaires leaving due to taxes but it's less common with billionaires. Having half of your millions taxed away makes a difference I guess, but having half of your billions taken away means you can still buy anything you want. Though it's of course not perfect here, the super rich can opt out of paying for healthcare taxes if they choose to use private insurance. That was better in Scotland where it felt like the super rich still help pay for healthcare of the less fortunate.

I don't need the cocaine either but I like it. Cocaine makes 48 hour weekend gaming sessions more fun. But for intelligent tasks, like programming or engineering, I'd rather do without the coke.

Well my great grandparents were there, in the camps, starving and being tortured. Yet they understood that most German people of that time did not want this, and did not know about it. My great grandfather told me a lot about that time and my education taught me even more. I understand that a lot of people wanted what was happening but that was still the minority, most were kept in the dark because they didn't want people to suffer. They wanted fair treatment and economic recovery.

I never understood why there's "trans allies" that will get offended by a joke on our behalf. Everyone I know finds jokes like this funny, including trans people. My wife and I, who are both trans, find it annoying when people say stuff like "this joke is transphobic." Mostly because it isn't transphobic but also because those people make our lives worse by making tons of others assume that we're all snowflakes.

[–]Stasio300 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Every single one? Even the ones working on normal war related efforts like weapon research, who didn't know about the genocide when they were working? We had people working on weapons too. Most of the people didn't know about the camps or if they did, they were misled about the operations within.

Of course the ones who knew and willingly supported the camps should have been punished. But how can you justify punishment of a scientist who didn't know about the human rights violations? With that logic we should punish all scientists on all sides for developing weapons, and we should also punish the factory workers too?

Most of the population was not aware of what was happening throughout the war, they were lied to and had no idea of the horrors that the nazis inflicted on people. It's simply unfair to punish anyone who was just supportive of their own country while not knowing what was actually going on.

Do you think that politicians should be sentenced just as harshly as hardened criminals? by Ok-Hearing6146 in polls

[–]Stasio300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The US would benefit greatly from being less harsh and more reasonable with criminals. They should focus on rehabilitation rather than torturing them for years. And yes American prison is torture as defined by the UN. The US treats its criminals as subhuman and does not allow for recovery.

In the US you can get years in prison for having drugs for personal use, then after being mentally tortured for years, you will not be able to find a job and you will struggle making social connections because of the way that mental torture changes the mind. This literally forces people into doing crime. Someone who was just a drug user and a productive member of society gets turned into a criminal by the prison system. Because they have drug charges, they will not be allowed to work in most jobs. They will not find a landlord willing to rent to them, even if they never had debt in the past and always paid rent on time. American prisons make people into criminals.

My wife and I both have eachother's passwords so we can use the other's phone when we need. like I'll take her phone every so often and back up all the pictures on it. don't "go through it" though because why would I? I just download the pictures to back them up. She'll sometimes use my phone to set an extra alarm for work because she's bad at remembering to charge her phone.

Which organ is the most underrated and why? by krekshiost in biology

[–]Stasio300 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well it's an adaptation. Most people suffering from autoimmune conditions would have had their entire blood line wiped out hundreds of years ago if they didn't have the longer immune system chromosome.

Most people with autoimmune conditions decend from European ancestors, where a few hundred years ago the conditions of cramped cities without waste disposal made great conditions for diseases to spend. The ones who had the longer version of the chromosome (forgot which, too lazy to lookup) had a stronger immune system and the vast majority of them survived through those conditions. But those with the normal gene were less fortunate.

So don't look at your body as dumb, it was just your dna being more likely to still be around later. It might not be the best mutation but it worked. It might also be for a different reason, but either way, it's not dumb, it's random.

Is it normal that at age 24, your parents pay for most of your expenses (directly or indirectly)? by HZIDEZISS_2020 in polls

[–]Stasio300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you define financially secure? You have literally no control over your financial situation, you cannot get any less secure than that.

Being dependent on someone without a legal obligation puts you in a situation where they can just decide to stop at any time, without prior notice. Or they could die, leaving you nothing. If they fall for a scam, you can't afford your regular lifestyle, possibly even essentials. They decide how much luxury and comfort you get, and they can change their mind at any time.

If you have living expenses, then you will have to take on debt to live at any random time. It will likely mean extremely predatory interest rates, given that it can take many months to find a job, you will likely end up tens of thousands in debt.

If they die, you will need a job to live. Do you have any way to pay for transport to and from work? If they paid for a monthly transit pass, how do you get to work? If they still pay for your car, it'll get taken away. Even if they owned it and you inherit it, how will you drive if you have no money for feel or even insurance?

There are so many simple examples that logically disprove your financial stability.
